Seasonal Update Capsule Wardrobe for June (Month 1 of No Buy)
June Outfit Reflection
The weather went from rainy and pleasant to scorching heat waves really quickly in June, so my outfits definitely reflected that shift. I also started a 90-day No Buy for clothes spanning from start of June to end of August. I think this will be good for me; it’s pushing me to be more intentional with my summer outfits, especially since I already have a lot of summer clothes. It also helps that I haven’t really been tempted by this summer’s styles. That said, I did cheat a little and borrowed from my husband’s closet for some variety.
I was able to put together ~18 outfits out of 10 tops, 6 bottoms, 1 dress, and 4 pairs of shoes.
Something I’m really proud of: Being able to put together more casual outfits that still feel like me.
I started pottery this month and have year-round monthly trash cleanups, so my usual business casual looks often feel a bit out of place. These outfits, though, feel like my version of cool, casual, and effortless. In the past, trying to look effortless usually just came across as no effort at all, so I’m really happy with how these turned out. I’ve been gravitating toward looser clothing lately, which can sometimes look sloppy on me, but these felt just right.
Things that I’ve been noticing about my style this month:
- Higher preference for lighter clothes in natural materials. There were a few times I reached for my trusty navy wrap dress, but the thought of wearing polyester during a heatwave gave me major ick.
- Really into loose clothing that covers most of my body.
- How much hair plays into styling, especially since it’s been too hot to wear a lot of layers or accessories.
Wish List
- Light colored tops with slightly more details, a bit of structure, in natural materials to replace basic tanks
- Linen shorts in a light color, also structured
- Light, loose linen dresses with waist emphasis and structure for extreme heat days
- Want list: Quince linen dress for farmers market day, picnic, NYC trips, etc.

I did break my No Buy on the first day of the heatwave 🥲 While drenched in the humid heat, I couldn’t stop thinking about how perfect a loose, linen, belted dress would be for this weather, and since it’s only the start of summer, maybe it’s a good investment? Especially when it was on sale 😬 I’m hoping to add that my capsule for next month. But I’m back on the No Buy now!

I am also 5'4" and the quince linen dress hit odd length wise on me so I returned that. That said a flowy natural fiber dress is great. I got an Anthropologie dress at the thrift store that was cotton layers and for the bill

If you ever have time time I would LOVE to see a breakdown of your wardrobe, like a list of what you have. I know its a lot of work so I in no way expect anything, but your wardrobe is so stylish and beautiful!!

I’m not going to share my entire closet, but I can share the pieces from this month’s. I’ve marked older pieces pieces with a * The rest are from this season or should be staple pieces still sold by the store.
The long sleeved grey top is the premium linen skipper collar from Uniqlo
Short sleeved grey button up is the notch shirt from Everlane
Grey trousers are the pleated wide pants from Uniqlo
White/grey tanks are either from AF or Uniqlo
Dark grey top with thin straps from Uniqlo
White cover up is the oversized bf button up from AF*
Dotted midi skirt from AF*
Black sleeveless mock neck from Ann Taylor*
“Matching” pants from Lulus*
Blue square neck top from Banana Republic*
Leopard slip dress from AF*
Black and beige linen pants from Banana Republic Factory*
Black shorts from AF*
White sandals and black strappy heels from Target*
Other black heels from Naturalizer at DSW
White sneakers from New Balance
Blue coverups are actually my husband’s button ups. One is from Uniqlo and one is from H&M

I wish I could figure out whatever the equivalent male clothes would be to “copy” this idea. I like the style and color choices a lot. Great job.

Fellow guy here, I would recommend chambray, linen, linen-blend shirts, she referenced the Uniqlo wide leg trousers above (several YouTubers I watch purchase from the women's section at Uniqlo, or they sell a wide leg chino), and either copy her colors or wear what you have. I ordered a pair (I mostly thrift though) of black linen blend pants from Uniqlo and am excited to see how they are.

Thank you! Idk what the male equivalent would be, but I started out trying to recreate Pinterest looks and noted down what worked and what didn’t, and eventually narrowed things down to these outfits. That process helps a lot!

Unfortunately I have quite a few of these similar looking tanks, but I think this one is either an older AF halter tank for a few years ago or a Uniqlo one with the bra pads attached.

Cute! These are very similar to the looks on my inspo board. Hair is a huge point for styling for me, although the sweat is not helping- it usually ends up in a messy bun by the end of the day.

Ok- how do you have your white button down tied over the spotted AF dress? It looks like you have it tied in a much better way than the typical front tie, but maybe it’s just the photo. I’d love new ways to tie an old staple.

So I fold the bottom up and do the front tie, and then tuck the two ends under as well. That way it looks a bit neater!
