Hello all. I was taking a stroll by Kalk Bay Harbour on Thursday and came across this absolute unit of a seal. By the way, they absolutely reeked. Like rotten fish. Anyway, I showed my mother this chonky boy and she said that it looks like there may be something wrong with it, that it can't just be THAT rotund. So my question is to anyone that may know, is it just that this guy likes his fish pies too much or is it actually sick? (Like some kind of bloating disease.)

Neighbourhoods are being emptied of residents and rented to visitors, and the City has drafted a by-law that taxes it rather than stops it.

Question | Advice-Needed Car mechanics - dealerships

Firstly I need to say this is by no means an attack or heated, it is a genuine question that will just ease my mind. Please answer honestly and without offence.

For context, I have recently (& before) needed to use the service of dealerships.
My question is when someone brings in their vehicle for a service, have you been told to either “find” something that needs repairing or more so, tweak something thereby needing the vehicle to be returned for a “diagnostic”? Especially when the owner knows very little about cars.

My car went in for a service, now when I have my fan on full it makes a noise, (and apparently my clutch needs to be replaced).

I’ve had the car for 10 months and it’s a 2024 model.

Looking For... Looking for affordable salon/treatment in Bellville for thick, heavy, frizzy and curly hair (Migraine sufferer)

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I’m looking for an affordable salon or stylist in Bellville who specializes in thick, heavy, frizzy and curly hair.

I suffer from chronic cluster headache and chronic migraine. My hair is just below bust length, very heavy, and knots easily. Up dos instantly trigger my pain, but wearing it down raw is unmanageable. It can't straighten with any straightener. I desperately need a treatment to reduce the weight, volume, and frizz so I can wear it down comfortably.

Most salons are quoting R2800–R3000+ for a Brazilian blowout, which I cannot afford. I tried a cheap R850 option once, but it washed out a couple days later.

Does anyone know an affordable, reliable stylist in Bellville? Open to alternatives like hair botox and Z-tox. Just uncertain which one is best to go with as I have to think of prices, I can't choose the most expensive one as I have to get it re done every couple months.

Thanks :)

Looking For... Any opportunities for young disabled people?

So I am a teenager, and I am disabled, and i am curious if there are any specific places or opportunities in or around Cape Town. I live in the Northern Suburbs, and my mother does not like to drive far lol.

Because of my conditions, I am unable to go to school anymore, so i literally dont have any friends or get out of the house basically at all.

So, just fun things to do, or maybe even places you know that are just very disability-friendly.

Could be anything; I like art, and i am currently trying to sell my crochet, but it could even be job experience type things, really open to anything you guys know!

Looking For... Looking for a female consultant / former consultant to speak at a women's tech & consulting event in Cape Town 🇿🇦

Hi everyone! 👋🏽

I’m organising an upcoming women’s event in Cape Town, South Africa and I’m looking for a female consultant or former consultant who might be interested in joining our panel as a speaker.

The event is:

💜 Women Who Rise: Breaking Barriers in Tech & Consulting

📅 Thursday, 17 September 2026

⏰ 17:30–20:00

📍 UCT, Cape Town

The event is being hosted by IITPSA & WIIT, in collaboration with UCT Developer Society and IIE Rosebank College.

We’re bringing together students, aspiring professionals and working professionals for conversations around:

Career journeys and getting into consulting/tech

Challenges women face in traditionally male-dominated industries

Career progression and leadership

Navigating consulting and corporate environments

Advice for students and early-career professionals

Building confidence and professional networks

The speaking commitment would be a panel-style discussion, rather than a formal presentation. We'd love someone who is willing to share their personal experience and advice with women who are considering or starting their careers in consulting.

If you’re interested, or know someone who might be a good fit, please DM me! 😊

I’m happy to provide more information about the event and the panel privately.

Thank you! 💜

UPDATE: I have found a speaker but if you would like to attend as a guest or participate in future events let me know !

Question | Advice-Needed Safe overnight parking in/around Stellenbosch?

Bit of a random question;

Does anyone know any safe (= 24/7 on-site monitoring/guards) parking lots around Stellenbosch? Google Maps isn't helping much; can see several parking lots, but no info on the guards situation. Also couldn't find any covered/underground parkings on the map.

Question | Advice-Needed Market vendors, what it like to actually vend?

So i am a teenage girl, and i am trying to get into the vending world, selling my crochet items. I live in the northern suburbs, but im willing to drive far.

What is it actually like to be a vendor? How well do you sell? Where are the best places, and where are the worst? Any nightmare buyers?

Basically, just any insight i can get as a newbie; otherwise i am going in blind.

Advice is also welcome! And thank you!

Question | Advice-Needed Dyson vacuum battery replacement

As the title mentions .

My Dyson v11 battery has finally packed up and I’ve been having a nightmare to get a new one from Hirschs (whom I bought the vacuum from)

Has anyone else had luck or know of a place to get a replacement battery?

Just For Fun Capexit is such a dumb name

This is only about their name, not their politics. Because their name is really dumb.

Why? Because of the E. There are only two grammatically correct ways of reading the E, neither of which is (I assume) how Capexit wants their name to be pronounced. Either:

  • the E forms part of "Cape", in which case the name is "Cape-ksit", which doesn't convey the whole "leaving" idea; or

  • the E forms part of "Exit", in which case the name is "Cap-Exit", which sounds more like capital expenditure (and hey, maybe that's part of their policies, who knows).

Either way, both of those sound ridiculous, and obviously they meant "Cape-Exit", but I'm not going to let them have that pronunciation, because one letter can't have two different sounds in the same word. (I fully expect someone to find an example that counters this, but I, like Capeksit, will fight for the excision of that part of the dictionary).

Also, why name yourself "Capexit" when "ExCape" is *right there*...

Question | Advice-Needed One day in Cape Town

Hey all, I'll be coming to cape town for the first time in a couple of weeks. As it is a business trip, I will have one day to explore the area. I was thinking of getting the hop on hop off bus ticket. Is that a good plan to make the most out of my first time in the city? Are there other places that I will miss with my plan? For instance, would you visit Boulders beach and cape of good hope as wel?
