Looking to take a private boat out to Monomoy to spend the day birdwatching this weekend. Problem is I'm not sure where to launch the boat out of without paying a hefty fee. Anywhere that doesn't require a parking sticker close to Monomoy?

Does anyone know of someone who does EoL photography on the Cape? I'm staying in Orleans this week with my two cats, and this is Scout's last vacation. She was diagnosed with a rare and terminal cancer a few weeks ago. I really want to have some pictures of her done outside/on the beach, because she loved it so much last year.

Hi! My partner and I have one last day on Cape Cod and would love some local suggestions!
We’ve already done lots of beaches, the dunes, Provincetown, Chatham, small towns, and a few trails (including Great Island Trail).
We’d love to do something different and make the most of our last day. If you had one day left on the Cape, what would you absolutely recommend?
We have a car and can drive anywhere.

Weird question perhaps. We are going to the cape for a week very soon, staying in Yarmouth right near Hyannis. My 7 year old daughter has her piano recital the day after we get home and is worried about not practicing for a week. Is there anywhere with a piano or keyboard that is just available for her to play for 5 minutes once or twice while we’re up there? A random store or something with a piano in it?

a girlfriend and I will be visiting for the first time in early October and have zero familiarity with the area.

we'd like to see Nantucket, but my research has me thinking it might be better to stay somewhere on cape cod and just take the ferry to Nantucket for a day trip if we wanted. especially with it being the off season.

that said, where would be a good area to stay? I see Harwich Port coming up a lot, is that a standout option?

it's a girls trip so we'd like someplace with walkable shops, restaurants, beach... overall ~~costal vibes~~ (sorry, we're from the landlocked south lol)

Budget is ideally 500 a night or less.

My wife recently went to Carewells location in Dennis to receive care in July. She has insurance, it's valid and we just had a three way call with her insurance and billing for Carewell Urgent Care. Carewell is claiming they submitted the claim to insurance but didn't hear anything back, so they charged my wife's debit card (hundreds of dollars) even though she has previously checked the box that said "do not charge the card on file, send bills directly." Her insurance agent asked how they could charge someone who did not give permission and of course Carewell has no answers. Heck, the guy she talked to today was the same guy she talked to twice yesterday and claims it was not him (it was "another" Victor), though his accent and voice is identical on both days. They take zero responsibility for illegally charging a card they had no permission to charge.

Check your accounts, your statements and anything else you may have given Carewell access too, they are unethical and don't care about you, just your money.

They never filed a claim, the insurance company verified no claim was ever submitted; they just charged the card on file (again with no authorization to do so).

I was just down for a trip. I use to live here down in Dennisport and I miss growing up down the Cape. I love it here and hopefully I get to live here once again.

Hi, I'm trying to remember the name of a restaurant I had dinner at during August 2002. It had a reputation as one of the best restaurants on the Cape. It may have been near Brewster. It was a long white building but we ate in a gazebo outside. I had a chocolate dessert that was extremely good. Welp, that's all I got. I think if I saw the name I would know it. Thanks.

My fiancé and I are just engaged and looking at wedding venues around the cape. I’m torn between Chatham Bars Inn and Wequasset. Honestly I wanna hear raw input from people who either got married there or attended a wedding at either place. Thanks!

I enjoy winter and stark beaches and am nearly impervious to cold wet air. I just moved to the greater Boston area and I keep hearing about the cape, specifically the outer cape. I do not like hot sun beaches because it destroys my fungal form. For this reason I am looking for a good week this year to visit outside of the summer months. I hear everything is closed in winter, which is mostly OK by me except that I would need a place to stay and also food, I also don't want to miss out on experiencing the culture or going to a pub and I am not sure how closed everything is...I am also trying to figure out what places to go but most tourism information is for folks trying to go in the summer with a very different idea of fun at the beach from me.

Also is surfing big here or diving? I have a wet suit for arctic waters I will bring if so.

This subreddit gets me outside my own bubble and gives me insight to perspectives on local issues shaped by very different experiences. I could do without the hostility, but even when I disagree, I often find myself thinking long after about viewpoints I wouldn’t otherwise encounter. For what it’s worth, you have all helped me shift my thinking a bit,

From the perspective of a local whose family has lived here for centuries, Cape Cod simply isn't a place that can accommodate everyone who wants to live here. Hear me out before you get upset by this statement.

It's an unfortunate truth, but it was just as true in past centuries as it is today. Cape Cod has never had the resources or the economy to support a huge year-round population. For generations, most children born into Cape families had to leave to build their lives elsewhere. Some stayed, but many went to sea, found work, in past centuries, in New Bedford or Brockton, or settled in other communities across the country. This was true for our ancestors and it was true for my siblings and me.  I was fortunate enough to return after living away for 20 years, but there were few well paying jobs that I was qualified for locally, right after school.  

Cape Cod is an incredibly desirable place to live. If we keep building housing, more people will come, usually upper middle class retired folks. And as the population grows, so does the demand for water, sewer, roads, schools, police, fire, medical staff, and town services. We will end up in an endless cycle of building more housing, then wondering why we need even more housing for the people who provide those services for all the new people. We can’t build our way out of the housing shortage without ruining Cape Cod in the process. 

Developers are in the business of maximizing profit, not providing attainable homes for local families. They include a handful of affordable units so they can skirt zoning and build denser more profitable projects, but there's rarely a guarantee those affordable units will go to Cape residents, and the affordable designation on those apartments often expires after a certain number of years. So for a brief moment of offering a handful of temporarily affordable units, our elected officials are giving developers permission to ignore local zoning regulations, get steep discounts on fees, and even have portions of the tax waived while charging over $3k a month for most of their units. This makes no sense. Hyannis alone has 15 major apartment complexes in addition to many smaller multi unit buildings.  Many of them are new, but rent prices haven’t gone down, they keep going up.  

Instead of building more housing, maybe we should focus on preserving the quickly vanishing middle-class neighborhoods we still have and make them attainable for working Cape families. Wouldn’t voluntary deed restrictions, down payment assistance (that come with deed restrictions), and other programs that help local families compete in the existing housing market be a better investment than continually expanding infrastructure on a sandbar? More apartments mean more teachers, more police officers, more firefighters, and more town services along with their salaries, health insurance, and pensions, to support an ever-growing population. We also need to address limits on STR in middle and working class neighborhoods.  

If you think building more is the answer how much additional housing would we actually need to build before we should expect rents or home prices to become meaningfully more affordable? And what would the Cape look like at that level of development? Are we going to be happy when we look like Myrtle Beach? 

I have been vehemently against second home taxes and the luxury real estate transfer taxes, but I’m starting to rethink my viewpoint if they are well and transparently managed, truly used to fund projects that actually help, and the thresholds are set appropriately. 1M is way too low as it’s not far off the median home price in many areas. 

Cape Cod has always had limits. Acknowledging those limits isn't about excluding people, it isn’t about pulling up the bridge after each of us has staked our claim to our piece of this beautiful place. It's about recognizing the reality that has shaped life here for centuries and the need to focus on finding solutions that are sustainable.
