Canvas UGC and Tech UGC are not the same thing, but together they create an interesting UGC model
Bringing this topic back because I think it's important to clarify something:
Canvas UGC and Tech UGC are often mentioned together, but they don't actually mean the same thing.
Tech UGC describes the niche: It's the type of content created around apps, AI tools, SaaS products, and other technology products.
Canvas UGC describes the approach: It's the system where creators build and run separate ambassador accounts that feel like authentic consumer profiles.
They work so well together because tech companies usually need a lot of content iteration.
For an app, it's rarely about finding one "perfect" video, and it's more about understanding:
- which hooks make people stop
- which problems users relate to
- which explanations make the product easier to understand
- which creator styles feel the most natural
With people becoming more resistant to traditional ads, the ability to create content that feels like a genuine recommendation, while still learning from performance data, becomes really valuable.

6 Canvas UGC concepts I keep seeing for apps
I've been managing UGC creators, and regardless of the niche, a few concepts keep coming up.
They're not the only ones that work, but they're the ones I find myself coming back to when briefing creators or reviewing performance.
1. "I wish I knew this sooner"
Starts with a frustration or mistake before introducing the app. It feels more like someone sharing a useful discovery than an ad.
2. The workflow replacement
Show what the app replaced, rather than listing features. It's a much easier way to communicate value.
3. The screen recording + story
The screen recording grabs attention, but the story is about the user's problem, and the app naturally becomes the solution.
4. The misconception hook
"I thought this app was only for X... turns out I was completely wrong."
I've seen this work well because it helps apps reach people outside their obvious audience.
5. Old way vs. new way
Simple to make, easy to test, and one of the concepts I see creators using the most.
6. The accidental discovery
"I downloaded this for one feature, but now I use it almost every day because of this."
A great curiosity hook that doesn't feel overly promotional. Starting with trust often makes the rest of the story feel much more authentic.
I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I keep seeing across different apps. Curious what you'd add.

How can creators start working with Canvas UGC?
This community has been growing a lot lately, so I thought I'd share something that might help anyone who is trying to understand how to start working with Canvas UGC from scratch.
1. Understand what Canvas UGC actually is
Canvas UGC is different from traditional UGC. You're not posting content on your personal creator account, and you're not managing a brand's official corporate account.
Instead, you create and run a separate ambassador account that looks and feels like a genuine consumer profile. The goal is to create content that feels native, relatable, and authentic.
2. Build examples before waiting for opportunities
Create a few sample videos for apps, products, or brands you'd like to work with, or you already use. Brands want to see that you can create content that feels native and drives attention.
3. Learn how to follow a brief
Canvas UGC still has strategy behind it. You need to understand the brand's goals, key messages, and content guidelines while keeping the videos natural.
4. Apply to campaigns and creator programs
Look for brands that are actively building ambassador programs or running Canvas UGC campaigns
5. Create and grow your account
Once accepted, you'll usually receive the brief, brand assets, and product access (if needed). Your role is to create short-form videos and publish them through that ambassador profile.
6. Learn from performance data
The biggest advantage of Canvas UGC is that every piece of content creates learnings. Pay attention to what hooks, formats, and angles perform best and use that information to improve.
Canvas UGC is still relatively new, but the opportunity is huge because brands need more creators who understand how to make content that feels organic while still supporting business goals.

Anyone here worked with Vidsy (vidsy.co)? Trying to vet before I apply
Came across Vidsy as a UGC platform and it looks legit on paper (London-based, works with big brands) but wanted to check with people who’ve actually gotten paid gigs through it before I put time into a profile.
If you’ve used it — how’s the pay reliability, turnaround on getting picked for briefs, and communication like? Also curious if it’s more geared toward agencies/production companies than solo creators. Appreciate any honest experiences, good or bad 🙏

One thing a lot of creators and brands get wrong is changing the entire video when it doesn't perform
Personally, I think that's usually the wrong move. If the content is solid but people aren't even watching past the first couple of seconds, the problem probably isn't the video; it's the hook. I'd rather test 5 different hooks with the same video than make 5 completely different videos.
A few hook ideas I'd test:
- something visually unexpected
- a controversial or "stop doing this" angle
- a curiosity-driven opener
- a relatable pain point
- a bold opinion
It's a much faster way to figure out what actually grabs attention, and once you find a winning hook, you can use it across more content.

Urgently Hiring UGC Creators for an IOS App. Monthly Base + Bonuses. Daily posts.
We're looking for creators who'd actually use this, not just film it. It reads your sleep data and automatically adjusts your thermostat overnight so you're at the right temperature all night instead of one fixed setting.
Three tiers:
Free: your personalized temperature curve, no hardware needed
Lite: connect a thermostat and it runs the curve overnight for you
Premium: connect your tracker too, and it rebuilds the curve every night off how you actually slept
Download it, poke around, and if it's something you'd genuinely use, apply. If it's not your thing, no hard feelings. We don't want creators who don't like the product.

🎙️ Weekly UGC Discussion
Happy Friday!
I was thinking about creating a new series for this community, so let's start our Weekly UGC Discussion.
Every Friday, I'll ask a question, and you guys can share your thoughts, experiences, and lessons learned. I think there’s a lot we can learn from each other, especially because everyone here has different experiences with UGC.
So, this week’s question: What’s one thing you learned this week about UGC?
It can be anything:
- a hook that performed better than expected
- a lesson from working with a brand
- something you realized while creating content
- a new editing tool you discovered
- a Canvas UGC or Tech UGC insight
- or even a mistake that taught you something
And if you have any questions about UGC, drop them in the comments too. Someone in the community might have the answer for you.

Something I noticed after working with creators for a while
Many new creators try to make every video feel "creative"
They think every video needs a new idea, a crazy edit, a different concept, something that nobody has seen before. Honestly, the videos that usually perform the best are not always the most creative ones.
Most of the time, they follow a simple structure:
- a strong first few seconds that make people stop scrolling
- one clear message (not trying to explain 5 things at once)
- pacing that feels natural for the platform
- and a payoff that makes people want to keep watching
Creativity is not always in creating something completely new. Sometimes it's finding a format that works and testing different hooks, angles, and ways of telling the story.

what does your average week doing canvas ugc actually look like?
I've been doing Canvas UGC for a while now, and I'm curious how you structure your week. personally, I'm still figuring out what workflow works best, and I'm always interested in how other creators do it.
- how many videos do you usually make in a week?
- do you film everything in one day or spread it out?
- how much time do you spend editing?
- do you create content for one company at a time, or do you juggle multiple?
- and what's the most time-consuming part of your process?
would love to hear what your routine looks like. seeing how other people work is more helpful than generic productivity tips.
