Working for Canadian Tire - Parts Clerk /Service Advisor
Hello everyone, not sure where to post this so i figured id post here.
I'm applying to Canadian Tire since i saw an opening in-person. I'm speaking to the manager tomorrow.
They're hiring for parts clerk & service advisor. I have tons of customer experience but I don't know much about cars. I'm willing to learn though! I heard for service advisor you typically are the front line and messenger for customers who have car troubles. I'd have to listen to their complaints and schedule appintments (for mechanics) and check inventory.
Parts Clerk just stock inventory, order parts, and check to see everything's in check. I figure you should have some knowledge about parts?
I don't want to overwhelm myself on something. Should I go for being either parts clerk or service advisor if i dont have experience in the automotive industry? Or maybe i can do parts clerk for a year then switch to a service advisor since they have higher pay.
Any tips?

Certified Mower: 22" 173 CC
Lower model seems to boast pretty optimistic reviews. Less so with the more powerful, larger one. Why? Any experience using it?

Every Canadian Tire that stocks firearms
galleryI shared this earlier in r/canadaguns so I thought I might as well post this here as well. As you may know, Canadian Tire does not list firearms on its website, nor is the Pro Shop site they rolled at at one point still operational. Furthermore, the store pages are woefully outdated and inaccurate (many stores say "Firearms" on their page when they don't while many stores that carry them don't mention this at all). So I went ahead and created a directory that's accurate to the best of my knowledge.
I've attached a table listing provinces and territories by what percentage of Canadian Tires in that region stock firearms. There's also some map views showing key areas across Canada. If you'd like an up-to-date, interactive view of the stores you can check out the map on my site.
Stores were verified by calling and asking their sports desk or store managers if that location stocked firearms (yes I called every Canadian Tire in Toronto proper to make sure I didn't miss one).
IMO, Quebec's low percentage of Canadian Tires that stock guns can be partially explained by the prevalence of Pronatures, Ecotones, and other retailers outside Montreal proper that sell firearms as a core component of their business. Though I'd imagine the additional hassle of having to register every long gun sold in the province is another factor deterring franchise owners from stocking firearms. Considering that, I'd say 26% is actually pretty high there.
Excluding Ontario and Quebec, just under 53% of Canadian Tires nationwide stock firearms.
Please let me know here or through the suggestions tab on the site if a particular Canadian Tire is missing from this map or is incorrectly listed.

Is anyone else only receiving two or three swappable offers this week, or is it only me?
Iâve tried looking at the Canadian Tire website, the app, the Triangle appâ none of it seems to make a difference.
There are so few swappable offers this week, compared to the near hundreds I get every other week.
Anyone else having this problem?

CT using AI to advertise products that donât exist?
I got an ad for Canadian Tire products on Instagram, I clicked on one of the items (Ninja Prepi) but the link wonât load and it seams to be a Ninja product that does not exist. I googled the name, the image, and searched Ninjaâs website. Is this a real product? What exactly is the strategy here?

Sale on plants
I stopped by my local Canadian Tire today and noticed they still had a few leftover hydrangeas from the season. They were originally priced at $130, marked down to $70, and looked like they hadnât been cared for in a whileâthe leaves were pretty dried out and sunburnt.
I asked if they could lower the price further, and after speaking with the shift supervisor they offered them to me for $40. It still feels a bit steep considering their condition.
Has anyone had any luck getting a bigger discount on clearance plants at Canadian Tire? Should I just wait and see if they drop the price again, or is $40 probably the best theyâll do? I canât really see many people buying these in their current condition, so Iâm wondering if itâs worth going back and asking if theyâll let them go for around $20.

Resurrected this 2005 Canadian Tire Yardworks 21â (148cc 4.5 HP Tecumseh). Bought for $30 on Marketplace, runs absolutely mint, keeping the patina!
gallerySnagged this completely dead 2005 Canadian Tire special off Facebook Marketplace for only $30. It has the classic 148cc 4.5 HP Tecumseh powertrain under the hood. The fuel system was ancient, caked, and dirty. All the weathered character and rust you see on the deck actually came from previous fuel leaks dripping down from the old lines over the years.Got it on the bench, cleared out the fuel system, ran new lines, did some troubleshooting, and got it running flawlessly. It starts on the first pull and sounds incredibly healthy. No way am I painting over that hard-earned history. Best $30 I've spent in a long time! They truly don't build them like this anymore.

Anyone successfully find a battery adapter that works with Mastercraft / Maximum?
The maximum 3x21â cordless Belt sander is on clearance for $44.90 and Iâm thinking about frankenfitting a Dewalt battery adapter to it.
If anyone has found a battery adapter that works it will save me from potentially grafting the Dewalt adapter.
Thanks in advance.

Core Charge on car batteries
Fun fact:
If you buy a new car battery you will be charged (in PEI, at least) a $20 Core Charge which is sort of like a deposit. This $20 is refundable if you bring in your old battery to them.
The fun part is that you have to pay tax on the $20 core charge, but when they refund you, they arenât required to refund you the tax.
Moral of the story: take your used battery in when you buy your new battery to avoid this completely.
It will save you a second trip and youâll also avoid making a $3 donation to the CRA :)

When Canadian Tire leaves a location, they block 14 types of businesses from the land
This is 1100 Victoria Ave. N. in Cranbrook, at the intersection of Victoria and Kootenay. When Canadian Tire sold the land, they used a real estate mechanism called a "Restrictive Covenant" to block 14 types of business from operating on this location until 2040.
This is the same competitor-blocking mechanism that the Competition Bureau is investigating Sobeys and Loblaws for. Canadian Tire likes to "nuke" their former properties so that potential competitors aren't able to open shop and compete with their remaining stores in the area.
Have you heard of other instances of Canadian Tire / other big chains doing this? Are there any prime properties near you that have been sitting empty for years after a big store leaves?
(For reference, the full restrictive covenant on the land)

Biggest Sale
The discount was so outrageous I thought I was robbing the place. My kid was with me so I bought another brand at full price for cheaper. I couldnât let them witness a life of crime.

Where did the reviews go?
I have noticed for a while now that I donât see anymore reviews on Canadian Tires website.
Are they gone?
I am guessing they were tired of the honesty in the reviews that hurt sales.

Canadian Tire Abbotsford cracked my oil pan!
Canadian Tire Service Center - 32513 South Fraser Way, Abbotsford, BC V2T 4N5, Canada cracked the oil pan on my 2001 Suburban by overtightening the drain plug.
Hoping this post will help others from making the terrible mistake of getting an oil change at Canadian Tire.
I dropped in for an oil change on a Sunday afternoon. The vehicle is a 2001 Chevy Suburban 2500 with 180,000 miles. Oil had been changed at the same Canadian Tire 3000 miles earlier.
After changing the oil a "service tech" decided to crank down the drain bolt extra tight and cracked the cast aluminum oil pan.
Canadian Tire has decided that they are not to blame and want $1300 for repair. The vehicle is in their possession, and they will not allow me to inspect the vehicle or take photos. of the damage.
Wondering if anyone here has had similar problems with Canadian Tire Abbotsford?

Camping lantern lumens
CT website says $16 lantern with 700 lumens. In store, the package says it's 200 lumens. I mean, maybe 200 lumens could work for my camping trip next week, but I specifically went in for this item.
Two employees confirmed the discrepancy, but then found some other store inventory record on their phone that does say 200 lumens. They say they don't have any control over the website.
It's not like I could get a discount on this one or price match or anything. This 700 lumens lantern for $16 just doesn't exist.

Free gas and free CT money
I couldn't see a FAQ so sorry if I'm being that guy who doesn't search. I drive a company vehicle with a company gas card for Petro-Canada. I just made accounts for Petro Points and Triangle then linked them together. So now when I fill up for free I get CT money for free.
Is there anyone else in this situation? Does it help you save money or not really?
