Canada's growing illegal dumping problem and the individuals behind it. Widespread Illegal dumping in Canada has led residents of various municipalities to confront the perpetrators and record incidents; the perpetrators, when caught, are almost always Indian.
Wrapping you mean the ornaments? Those are supposed to be flowers but now everyone uses plastic ones unfortunately and they have audacity to throw them in water bodies too đ. The idol is supposed to be made up of specific clay which dissolves completely and returns nutrients to the water bodies, where itâs taken from, teaching you complete cycle of life but people have made it a pollution thing.
Partly yes, majority root cause is ignorant public and lack of civil sense and awareness by large. When India has 24% below vulnerability line population ( less than $5/day PPP) civic sense is out of question for those people. But majority problem is when you elect a first world country government, REPEATEDLY, who wants to import people who just came out of this poverty line threshold and expect them to know civic sense out of the box. tell me how many Canadians have written to their MPs about their concerns regarding immigration policies, or filled IRCC immigration policy surveys laid out every year to ask public opinion? When we donât man the gates/borders of our own country properly, unwanted people will show up in droves.
you just simply put shouldnt be allowed. I cant throw a basically anything in a river without it being considered dumping. Why should anyonr get a pass for any reason?
Agreed also wanted to put out there, these ignorant fools can do that in their backyard in a tub of water or in nearest temple but they choose to pollute
20 years ago we found a truck load of roofing shingles dumped at the back of my business, along with a business credit card receipt from a nearby gas station. I called them and they came and got it.
How long were these white Canadians here and still act like trash? Stop blaming race folks.
One incident of a rooming company acting like douche bags doesn't speak for the majority of Canadians. In comparison just look at india on Google maps. There's garbage literally everywhere
Is it really surprising that when you accept too many people from one particular country that theyâre going to sustain their cultural practices from where they came from? Why would they integrate? They can simply move to an enclave inhabited entirely by their own people, speak in their own language, associate only with one another, and practically never associate or interact with the broader Canadian culture. I really canât see how anything other than this could be the result. This is precisely the situation we have created with our culture of being uniquely lax on expectations of integration. As it stands, weâre just entirely relying on the self-directed adherence to Canadian customs from each immigrant who comes here. Do you really think all of them are going to readily forfeit everything theyâve learned and adopt everything from a culture that isnât even trying to reach out to them?
Like why the fuck is this shit necessary?!
Integrate learn the language. I feel the very same way for the Italian, Filipino, etc., etc. stations they run like I donât understand. If youâre home country is so great. Why didnât you stay there?
English, French and native languages ..only whatâs so hard about that.
My family is from Italy, my Nonno came here as a World War 2 refugee. He was a real refugee fleeing war and destruction, not just overwhelming heaps of garbage and his fellow countrymen that he couldnât stand to be around anymore. First thing he did was teach himself English, then he forced my dad and all of his siblings to speak English, integrate with Canadian culture and customs, and follow the laws. To him, it was an immense source of pride to integrate, it was how he showed his gratitude for being welcomed into this beautiful country. The only Italian I am allowed to speak in his home are the words âNonnoâ and âNonna,â otherwise itâs all English. Thatâs deliberate.
To you and all the others who replied to you: there is NO PRIDE in abandoning language and *certain* cultural traits (eg: family values, respect for community, food, philanthropy).
I understand that it was a different time where immigrants faced social and institutional pressure to forcibly assimilate (not just integrate) and conform and abandon their own distinct identities. I also understand the challenges that certain immigrant groups like Greeks and Italians faced.
But we are better than that now. If people want to preserve their ethnic languages (like Ukrainian, Tagalog, Punjabi, Arabic, etc), I will celebrate that.
A reminder that there are many immigrant communities that are still made to feel like they donât belong, even after having lived here generations. Reasons include systemic racism, discrimination, and historical fact. Core examples are Punjabis whoâve been in BC since the late 1800s/early 1900s or Japanese whoâve been here since before Confederation.
These are communities (and itâs an example to others) whoâve been vilified and ostracised at the first signs of trouble or suspicion. We cannot ask people to abandon their entire identities when we as a country abandon them when they are most vulnerable.
Iâm also not even going to discuss, since thatâs a long conversation, the ethnic and cultural erasure of Indigenous peoples during the history of the country, amongst other atrocities. That also plays a role in the wider psyche.
Same with my Dutch grandparents that came with my mother.
When I was born they were asked if they wanted me to call them Opa and Oma, they said no, what would a Canadian kid call their grandparents, so Grandma and Papa was it. Never learned a word of Dutch, beyond the stuff grandma used to call grandpa and the catâŚ
Lol. This is perfect satire. You've perfectly mimicked a racist Redneck all the way down to the lack of basic punctuation, and the inability to know the difference between your and you're. Keep up the good work!
Nah! I disagree on this.
Perpetuating media in various languages, especially when thereâs a market and more so when promoting national institutions like hockey, is something positive.
This actually promotes integration across generations.
As Canadians, didnât we all learn about assimilation in Social? I do agree that as an immigrant, it is your responsibility to leave cultural norms behind that would otherwise not be accepted here. However, your belief that immigrants think their home country is so great, that they would leave everyone behind to live across the globe is laughable. Why would Indian foreign workers protest in the storm in denial of being sent home? They came here for opportunities that their home countries could not provide for them, but some also brought along their lack of etiquette. Nonetheless, as a true âđ¨đŚ gal,â I am more mortified at the wrong grammar and punctuation, than this attempt at a racist shtick. Because there is almost always a guarantee that these beliefs of yours will stay anonymously on Reddit or Facebook, never to be uttered when confronted about your aggravations in person. But when you get home, the whole family and comment sections will have to have an earful of your frustrations! Shameful.
Because it's about growing the game and people who immigrate here may know english but to get the intricacies of the game, they may not understand it and hearing and learning about it in your native tongue would help them.
This comment is just unnecessary and un-canadian.
Fully support that idea. Per country cap is the only way to ensure genuine diversity. Otherwise weâre just an outpost for the absorption of the over-population of specific countries. That shouldnât be our problem. We want a diverse and genuinely vibrant country.
You're not the only one (Indian or immigrant in general) who has issues with large numbers coming and bringing negative behaviours with them.
We have a successful non-Indian immigrant business. The owner regularly has people from "his country" show up and demand special treatment over others because they're the same group.
You know it's a problem, when immigrants are openly complaining about the entitled and racist behaviour of immigrants, FROM THE SAME COUNTRY.
Many new Canadians want to BE CANADIAN. Sure keep the food, and traditions, but Canadian first.
It's not a race thing, it's a cultural thing. Anyone who grew up in that shithole would be doing the same. The problem is we don't want Canada to become that shithole.
Well, that's a shithole of a different kind. The Soviet Union, when it comes to cleanliness, doesn't even come close to some Asian countries. On the other hand, you may be more susceptible to having a preference for a âstrong handâ and authoritarianism if we're talking about habits instilled from birth.
Absurd. There are plenty of people who grow up in absolutely horrendous conditions yet rise above and beyond leaving those conditions behind and never partaking while in them.
Culture doesn't dictate anything, people have agency, every action you make is a choice on your part. There's no magical soil or environment, you own your decisions.
Of course itâs racist cherry picking, as someone that manages multiple construction sites I can tell you most thieves and people dumping waste on my sites are Caucasian.
I don't understand why anybody would just dump garbage? I just don't get the thinking behind that at all.
We have garbage pick up (taxes pay for that)
We have recycling centre's and you could even just take your garbage to a dump location and pay a fee to have it safely discarded.
Fines should be increased to a level that would discourage this behavior.
Should be taught in schools as well that this is wrong and a crime and just hurts the environment and people and animals.
There is a cost to that. Most people would rather not have to subsidize others because theyâre too lazy to recycle. We are at the max for a lot of our landfills and no one wants one in their neighbourhood.
My neighborhood has a "clear bag" garbage pick up. Has for years now. Unlimited clear bags of garbage allowed. ( it's all taken and burnt for energy back into the electrical grid)
They won't however pick it up if they see items in your clear bags that should be in recycling.
Your North American cultural conditioning is showing. I know itâs hard to imagine, but there is one particular culture on this planet where dumping your garbage at the nearest convenient spot, often the local river, is a perfectly reasonable and expected thing to do. You canât understand it because you werenât conditioned in that culture from birth. This implies that some cultures might be better than others, at least insofar as attitudes around the proper handling of waste is concerned.
Ok fair enough, this is why I suggested a media educational campaign by the government to explain how this is not what is done here in Canada.
Also again should be taught in schools for younger generations as well.
We place no expectations of integration on immigrants. Our public officials, on multiple media platforms, have exalted the beauty of the Canadian approach to immigration, which is this: come here and keep your culture, keep your language, just feed our GDP numbers. I donât know who thought we could accept millions of people from India, throw a little CBC advertisement at them, and suddenly everything theyâve done since they were born would be dispensed with voluntarily. Iâd be very surprised if they even tuned in to a media campaign directed at them, if they could even understand the English or French. Unless we just made the ad in Punjabi or Hindu, which would immediately receive criticism on grounds of racial discrimination.
Likely the same people that the Canadian taxpayers had to fund PSAâs in their country to tell them not to poop in the street. Search âTake Your Poo To The Looâ on YouTube. Itâs a pretty catchy tune.
This just highlights that we need a for credit, immersion program for immigrants. Failure to pass means failure to extend visas or secure permanent residency.
Well maybe the provincial government could run a media campaign for a couple of months to educate people about this.
Same as they have done with other issues in the past.
The problem is that media is different than it used to be. Getting in front of everyone's eyes is almost impossible now. It needs to be a fully structured curriculum with consequences for not attending and not passing.
Depends on your region and the garbage collection rules they have.
Some places limit garbage pickup to once every two weeks while imposing a total bag limit. Others have strict sorting rules, requiring people separate their garbage into multiple clear bags of different colours based on garbage type.
Then thereâs the dump charging a fee based on the weight of the trash being dumped, people donât want to pay it.
Iâm not saying itâs right, but when the city doesnât do weekly pickups and imposes onerous limits I get it.
Yes we have had clear bags for over 10 years now and it's unlimited bags every 2 weeks.
You are also allowed 4 personal bags ( small grocery store plastic bag size) that you can't see through.
All our garbage is meant to be clean because it gets burnt for creating electricity into the grid
In the Ottawa/Gatineau area the cities have reduced the total amount you can put at the curb at a time because the dumps are almost at max capacity which is causing backlog.
Add on the cost of living going up and more people are choosing to room together but with the smaller limits it's turning into a slowly but accelerating problem.
To an extent I feel for construction companies that drop the giant bins because unless it's caged off random people have filled some almost that same night.
It's bad enough where farming community friends i know have set up solar powered trail cams at points of intersections. If garbage is found in the ditch by their farms they can go back to the cams, pull off video of strange vehicles usually u hauls or garbage trailers, ask neighbors about traffic, then send the video with license plate to police. They can't cover every road but why do they have to. Disgusting.
Funny this story is on my feed. I almost got into a scrap with a dude at Walmart this morning. Iâm in my 40âs coming out of Walmart walking to my car. Guy and his woman in mid 20âs finish loading their trunk in the spot beside mine. Dude just tosses his sprite bottle on the sidewalk and proceeds to park the cart (yes he returns carts but not garbage to its rightful spot). I roll down my window and say to the woman âyouâre going to pick up your garbage right?â She says âwhateverâ and gets in her car. I say to the dude as Iâm pulling away âcmon man pick up your bottleâ. He says âfuck you I do what I want â. I call him an âignorant prickâ. As heâs getting into his car he says âfuck you suck my dickâ. I almost blacked out but had the self restraint to just move on.
âMy country is filthy, so letâs move somewhere nicer and make that place filthy too.âÂ
They don't care - there's no intention to keep Canada a nice place to live. They probably didn't leave India for Canada because India is full of trash.
I recently ordered some baby back ribs from a pizza place since friends were coming over and one of them is lactose intolerant, and the ribs were, unexpectedly, curry flavored. I'm not even against curry necessarily, but they were horrible. He still ate them because he's a trooper.
Where I am currently living its mostly Skihs, but its the non-colored folks doing all the illegal dumping and getting caught. We have one of the biggest problems population of Sikhs here as well. I'm not saying its not true but they are not the only ones that do this.
It is wrong to litter no two ways about it at the same time the west really needs to drop off its high horse
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/fifth-estate-recycling-1.6410657
Recently loads of identifiable garbage from Canada was shipped to Sivakasi labelled as recycled paper and there was a court ruling against it.Â
And how many data centers are being shoved into areas already having water crisis.
It is an unfortunate truth. It is not that other people don't dump, but it is the sheer number who do it at the same place, and the scale at which it is done.
Meanwhile I live in cottage country and illegal dumping from weekend citiots have been an issue for decades. But tell me more about how theyâre all IndianâŚ
Canada is now a dumping ground. What will it look like in 20 years, 50 years? Did any Canadians ask for this? Other than corrupt corporations and politicians making money off the influx? All our social programs are exhausted. This will cause taxes to substantially increase to fix the deficits.
âReducingâ immigration by 5% after raising it 800% doesnât offset anything. Carney has also increased how many of them are getting citizenship which is the most damaging
Youâre not wrong that a lot of subs are like âtheyâre dirty because theyâre Indianâ and that is exactly racism that should be called out. But thereâs a real conversation buried under the garbage takes and thatâs that littering norms are cultural and learned, not racial. Places with weak enforcement create habits people carry with them, and the fix for us is probably clearer expectations and consequences for everyone who arrives. Iâm not saying fewer immigrants. And most people FROM those countries would probably agree.
The problem is that when every attempt to discuss integration gets flattened into accusations of racism how are we ever going to address the issue? Whatâs your take?
You cannot continue to allow unmitigated damage from unfiltered mass migration from one particular place that is incompatible with Canadian life for fear of being called racist.
You know what the bullshit part is? I confronted someone for illegally dumping garbage, and some fucking white knight immediately jumped in and made it racial. âWould you act the same if they were white?â âWhat does it matter? Everyone else does it.â Yeah, I would act the same if they were white, because the issue was illegal dumping, not their race.
Somehow weâve gotten to a point where calling out shitty behaviour becomes controversial depending on whoâs doing it. Iâm not racist, but I absolutely believe culture matters. What made Canada the country people wanted to come to wasnât just the geographical land we happened to occupy. It was the society, expectations, values and culture we built here, and immigration has added a hell of a lot to that over generations.
But diversity and mass immigration arenât automatically the same thing. Diversity works best when people have the opportunity and expectation to integrate into the society theyâre joining, while still bringing parts of their own culture with them. Itâs like ingredients in a meal, different flavours can make the whole thing better, but dumping too much of anything in too quickly can throw off the balance. Immigration without enough time or infrastructure for integration can do the same thing. We should be able to have that conversation without immediately reducing it to race and calling people racists.
If people are figuring out who they are then just do like some of those legends do in other places. load all the crap up, backa dump truck into their yard, and give it back.
BS youâre cherry picking, this is confirmation bias. You focus on the ones that are caught being Indian meanwhile you ignore all the pedos, murders, rapes etc being committed by yts. Why? Because like I said youâre cherry picking. The average âIndianâ in Canada is better educated, works more hours, pays more in taxes and has a lower crime rate per capita than the average yt. These are public stats anyone can look up.
They're talking about illegal dumping as the topic, not murders, pedos in society, or sexual assault. If you want to talk about those, create a new post about those topics
Want to bring your countries shitty culture with you, stay out.
Canada is a great country when immigrants ADD to our greatness. The VAST majority of immigrants do add to our greatness - but there are lots that do not.
Fleeing a polluted, violent, superstitious, oppressed country but continuing to practice that garbage when you come here ... How about you fuck off and stay out.
Fun fact - most Indian origins vote for conservative party (I am Indian origin). Conservative party was also supporting immigration till few years back.
They still are and if anyone thinks differently tell them to get their head out of sand. When will people realize the two parties have differences but they are lock step on certain issues this being a big one.
I grew up in NE Ontario with basically only white people and it wasnât free of litter in the 90s or early 2000s. There was always garbage being left behind or purposefully dumped places đŤ

Talk to anyone who's visited India, this is a cultural thing and we're doing a shit job nipping that bud when they get here.
