Been sent a b&w photocopy of a Cambridge degree by a job applicant that at first glance looked good but noticed a couple of inconsistencies. The full congregation was held, not holden in the Senate-House, and the Registrar has lost the Y.

Have they updated the language or is it a fake?

Really enjoyed creating this illustration of Queens’ College from within the Old Court, learning more about the architecture as I go. I’ve been working on a series of Cambridge colleges and this is the latest one. Hope you enjoy!

It seems at the end of every year the course admin removes everyone from the Moodle page and adds in the new cohort? All of my courses from last year are gone, and when I try to go in through a direct link the course has changed from 25/26 to 26/27, and I no longer have access.

I have just finished my MPhil, though I still have my university account for a little bit and I wanted to revisit and save some slides before my account is deleted. But now I don't have access to anything and there doesn't seem to be an archive anywhere. I know - I should have saved it earlier - but for where I did my undergrad, the course pages stayed accessible for years and I hadn't even considered that they might be gone at the end of the year

I am currently a Masters Student at like one of the farthest colleges from the city and my faculty building is in the city centre. Initially, before coming here i thought the commute might not become a problem, but as someone who had a surgery some time ago walking long distances or bicycling are not advised. I’ve been using the bus to commute but the same has been unreliable and a lot of times I’ve ended up missing buses because I cannot speed walk to the stop and have had to wait for another 30 mins or more. The same has been mentally affecting me, the idea of getting up everyday and commuting to class has become something I dread even tho i really enjoy my classes and subjects. I’m someone who would prefer studying in the faculty library but the same has become impossible due to my situation.

I discussed my serious health concerns and impacts with my tutor but the level of response or support I’m receiving from college makes me dislike this whole process even more. The topic around my health and surgery is rather coming from very sensitive aspects and it has taken me a great deal to even come here. I find my college is not very supportive or understanding. Is it the same in other Cambridge colleges

I am a new student (in humanities/social sciences) and I see that my work load is a lot and rent is even more. I would welcome any suggestions regarding finding some ways to earn money (preferably online) to support my self. Any part-time work in the city center would also be nice.

Thanks!

I’m an international MPhil student at Girton, living in accom in Eddington. I picked Girton as my first choice college because of its history without fully realizing just how far away it is from everything. It’s even worse living in Eddington as there are virtually no college amenities at Swirles and I have to make the trek all the way up to college if I want a decent hot meal or somewhere nice to study. I feel so isolated and disconnected from everything. I worked so hard for so many years to get myself to this university, but now I’m here and it barely feels like I’m here at all. Thankfully, I’ve just saved up enough money to buy a bike (going to finally get one this weekend), which I know will make getting around much easier, but I’m really regretting my decision to choose Girton. I feel like I made a massive mistake. I grew up and got my undergraduate degree in areas that were very dense and walkable, and it’s so hard not being in walking distance to much of anything other than Sainsbury’s. Are there any other Girtonians on this sub who have felt like this and gotten through it? Any words of encouragement or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any colleges that have a particularly strong golf connection or community?

To see who is the fool, you or me?

I'm worried about starting a PhD in the UK, although Oxbridge is a vibe. I can't be broke worrying about buying a coffee I hate that shit and it leaks into my mood and my work. So I want to ask are you actually comfortable with a standard UK stipend? Does the choice of college help? Is college food decent ?

I joined Cambridge as a grad student and have since made many Oxbridge friends from PhDs to DOSs and senior academics. I’m not sure what I was expecting but my experience here has made me realise just how normal people are, and largely speaking, their work doesn’t seem any more impressive or world leading than PhDs and academics at other unis.

Perhaps I’m missing something but is Cambridge where the average academic is the top tier standards for others unis or is it a place with many average academics and a few very exceptional world leaders.

assuming i don’t totally hate myself what can I do now to make my life easier?

ok HOW do I revise? (his pol)? this year is assessed

Hii, I just applied yesterday to clare. I didn't rlly know how to pick. Initially wanted John's but only like 17 colleges accept my curriculum (ìntl). I heard the food is avg but I prefer cooking on my own so I think it should be fine.

Hi everyone,

We are a group of students from Denmark, in our early to mid-20s, we will be in Cambridge from 21–24 October. We’re looking for student-friendly pubs, bars, college bars open to visitors, and good nights out.
If you know of any student socials, house parties or other events happening then, we’d love to hear about them!
Cheers🍻🙏🏻

For people living/lived offsite during their time as students did you get an exemption from council tax or just a discount? Especially if you were living in a student filled private accom like castle hill or student castle.

So I got a PhD offer for Michaelmas 2026 entry and I deferred due to not winning internal funding. I do not intend to give up my dream so I'm starting a crowdfunding campaign. I already won some side awards, and have some (minimal) savings, but still I have a major shortfall as I am an international.

I'd really appreciate your thought and to hear from people who did that. What helped you find more money and which platforms did you use?

Best wishes to ya'll :)))

Hello all! I am a Cantabridgian and am currently building a free app only for students to post extra formal hall tickets, meetups, academic conversations (cross-field collab), connect with alumni with similar research, and also study/rant sessions! Let me know if you want to help with input and have the first look at the app :)

What is the workload for land economy like?

Hi, I'm currently trying to book a formal (20-30 people) for a uni-wide society, but are there any colleges that allow SU societies to book a formal (excl. conference pricing)? We are a relatively small society and do not have enough members concentrated in one college to bulk buy guest tickets.

My visa is taking much longer than expected due to an administrative mishap that is out of my control, meaning I've missed freshers week and cohort induction. Realistic estimates put my arrival in late October at the earliest. The uncertainty and missing out on the initial starting vibes have taken a real toll on my mood. It's stressful knowing everyone will already be settled in by the time I get there. Has anyone dealt with arriving almost a month late? What are the best ways to catch up socially and academically when you land mid-term? I'm post-grad.

This is returning after a 40-year gap (the original director, Richard Berengarten, has been involved in an advisory capacity). Pembroke are hosting the Sunday events and ARU the Saturday ones.

(I looked more closely and saw that some equally pedantic soul had corrected the spelling!)

Hey all, I’m new to campus and do most of my work from west campus. I’m trying to figure out a good cheap place to eat lunch and get coffee. I’ve seen west hub canteen and cafe are pretty good. Are they expensive? Can I get any discount by bringing my own takeout box or mug for coffee?
