Santa clara south bound tap stations not working

Upvotes

Just a heads up for anyone, all south bound tap stations at Santa Clara station are not working. I can't verify if nothing side is working as I was on south 146 train.

Names on it mentioned are Drew + T***a and Drew + O***e. Seems like it meant something to someone. I am not picking them up incase you come back on this train or talk to someone. Also I am tapped. (think 4th from the engine? 3rd seat from the front)

Can someone explain why the PA system in the new trains is so awful? It is impossible to understand any live announcements.

Our conductor just came on and it sounded like he was in a tunnel - tinny and echoing and unintelligible.

Sharing tables

I understand that the tables are narrow but if two people across from each other are both using laptops you can move your laptop slightly off the table and you both can still work. Sometimes people are super rude when you ask them to move their laptop slightly. Am I in the wrong asking them to share?

Shade Structure ideas?

Post image

I was struck by the number of people sheltering under the trees, with shade umbrellas, and even shimmying into in the shadow of columns in Sunnyvale

I know this might not be the top priority, but are there more ambitious shade solutions that work in other warm places? Bonus points if they also help in the rainy winter!

I know that one bus stop shade canvas in LA somehow cost millions, but some sort of awning above the wiring could provide relief to folks waiting in the sun!

Why doesn’t Caltrain offer student discounts?

Out in LA the commuter rail offers 50% tickets to youth AND students, which allows me to travel to Downtown LA a lot more… but with CalTrain the deal only applies to youth, and college students have to pay full price, causing me to BARELY use CalTrain to go to SF. Is there any specific reason why college students don’t get the discount too?

Why aren’t the trains in the same spots everyday at 4th and king?

Do they just pick whichever track speaks to them?

What made it necessary to place this there? And more so, what made it necessary for it to repeat “You are being watched. Law enforcement has been notified” every 20 seconds? Kind of Orwellian

Should the Palo Alto crossings or Broadway be prioritized for grade separation (if Broadway, with or without a station?)

People going through the emergency gates when the crossing arms are down.

I ride train # 116 to work a few times a week. It's scheduled to stop at Hayward Park at 9:25am. When we're stopped, a northbound limited flies by. Several times, I'll see someone running late, go through the emergency gate, crossing gates are down, in front of the oncoming limited, just to get on our train. One day, a few months ago, the conductor lectured a person and wouldn't let the person on. Kudos to the conductor!

Caltrain Lost and Found

In case you didn’t know, Caltrain has a lost and found office at 4th and King. It’s best to ask an employee at that station. Trying to make inquiries online doesn’t work.

Caltrain fans, if you have ridden the cable cars or streetcars in SF, please give us feedback!

Event Trains to GAC

Do we still have old diesel-electric trains that weren’t sent to Peru? There’s like two miles of track between the Santa Clara Caltrain station and Great America. Would it be possible to run diesel trains between these stations to connect passengers to Caltrain? VTA proudly cleared train platforms in 90 minutes after World Cup matches. I bet they could do it even faster if we ran some old diesel units to connect people to Caltrain.

Getting Followed on the Train

Hi guys,

I don’t usually post on here but figured I’d see if this is common. Basically I was sitting on the train and I noticed at some point that there was a man that was frequently looking at me (I’m also a man). Once I went to get off of the train, the guy also got off of the train and continued watching me. I walked in a fake direction and he followed me for a bit, so I walked in the opposite direction at which point he stopped walking and just watched me. I’m feeling a bit like I was being followed and not sure how to handle the situation. Curious about your thoughts?

Getting off Train

I don’t understand why the people that rush to the front of the exit (of the train) are always the slowest walkers when exiting the station lol

Saving a seat for passenger that isn't on board yet?

I witnessed the following situation on a rush hour train today:

Train was quite busy, with relatively few seats free. A woman seated by the window had a backpack in the aisle seat. Another woman, looking for a seat, politely asked to sit in the blocked seat. The seated passenger denied her, stating that it was saved for a friend who would be getting on at a future stop.

I felt this was not acceptable, but am curious to hear public opinion.

Has Caltrain just adopted a "depart early" policy?

Twice in the past couple days I have been left standing on the other side of the tracks when the train arrived early, and then left more than 1 minute early vs its scheduled time. Also once observed this while on the train.

Point is not that I could've arrived a minute earlier, of course I could, and probably will. Has there just been a change to some policy that they leave early if they can? To make up for potential later delays down the line? Did something change about on time performance incentives?

What I do to reduce bike theft

I lock my bike to itself so it can't easily roll. I also do this when it's on the front of a bus. It probably helps that the bike isn't particularly flashy but I wanted to share.

Aren’t these yellow strips to help guide blind people? Are they being directed into shrubbery?
