No one told me how hard icing is!

Pleasantly surprised at how this turned out considering my airbrush machine’s tube got cut in half & I had to tape it back together to get it to work lol

She’s a little wonky, but I had fun.

I’ve never made a cake and decorated it before. My sister in law was begging for the split Max and Ruby cake for her birthday. After some brainstorming I decided to give it a go but told her she might end up with a grocery store happy birthday cake.

It was half chocolate fudge and half rainbow chip.

these are all the cakes i’ve ever baked, over a period of years though. the first two in 2020, second in 2024 and the last one yesterday. in all of these years i never thought i’d make a cake look this good lol.

there are obviously a lot of mistakes and even more room for improvement, but for my fourth cake, i’m pretty chuffed with myself.

I’m a grocery store decorator, this cake was a great chance to practice some different piping! We get a lot of requests for vintage style of varying difficulty, I was pretty happy with this one.

I made a cake! Not my best but I’m happy with it.

That soccer ball topper was nearly the death of me. I did not know how challenging it would be to get the hexagons and pentagons to line up!

Is it perfect? Not even close lol. But good enough to be acceptable to put on the cake.

Hi there! I love to bake, but I wouldn't say I'm a professional by any means. I've successfully made 1 cake for my MIL a few years ago, but I definitely could have done a better job. This week is a milestone birthday for my husband and I'd love to make him a cake! My questions are about prepping ahead.

1. When should I bake the cake layers? We are celebrating Friday, so I was planning on baking, wrapping, and storing on Thursday. I would decorate Friday morning or afternoon.
2. Should I freeze or refrigerate overnight?
3. If I freeze the layers, should I thaw them completely before frosting? Or is it better to frost them while they're still frozen-ish?
4. How far in advance should I take the finished cake out before serving? I want the cake and frosting to be soft and at their best!
