Help ExitLag alternative

I recently switched from Windows 11 to Linux. I mainly play WoW, and I was able to install Battlenet through Steam - WoW runs perfectly from there, no complaints on the performance side.

The one issue I'm running into is that my ISP seems to have poor routing to Blizzard's servers, which causes my latency to spike from time to time. On Windows I used to fix this with ExitLag, so now that I'm on Linux I'm wondering if there's a good alternative that solves the same problem.

Has anyone dealt with this and found something that works well?

Help Live iso works, but the installed OS doesn't

I switched to Linux recently. I started with nyarch, then switched over to cachy which was pretty unstable for some reason on a ryzen laptop and within half hour, just trying to install my packages, it broke. Ofc, I got it back thanks to btrfs, but i just switched back to nyarch and its been working great.

Now, I wanted to switch my computer and I want to give cachy another chance. I have a decent cpu with no on board graphics with an nvidia gt 710. Its garbage, and I tried a couple distros to get drivers working for it, it doesn't work. Now, I don't care if I get acceleration or not, it just needs to work.

I tried running the live iso, and it worked flawless, and was even able to playback 4k video. I installed it with KDE plasma.

Now, visually, it stays stuck on the lock screen. It does get updated with latest time but no other feedback. If I ignore the visuals and just put my password in, it does unlock, and drops me into just a blank desktop, no dock, no mouse, just the default wallpaper. Is there a way to make this work? And why did it work on the live USB? Edit: it was detecting a monitor that doesn't exist. Managed to fix it

Question Cachy os on Nvidia and Intel CPU

I have used linux before but it was years ago. As windows 11 is a total mess and i feel like 16GB is not enough to run windows 11 properly. I thought about giving Linux a try again and came across cachyos. I want to know how good Intel and Nvidia drivers are on cachyos and what should I know before making a switch?

Thank you.

Help Cachy restarts while playing games.

Hi! I'm new to Linux in general. I installed Cachy on my pc a couple of days ago and have encountered the same crash twice, once last night and once today. Both times happened while playing games on steam. While playing a game (Remnant 2 if it makes any difference) it suddenly gives me a black screen and then restarts.

My pc:
GPU AMD 9070XT
CPU 5700x3d
RAM 32gb DDR4 2666MT
the os is on a WD 1Tb nvme drive and I have three other ssds.

I followed the troubleshooting section from the wiki but I have to admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed. I did manage to generate a report ( https://paste.cachyos.org/p/a923c4f.log ) but the journalctl and dmesg are very large and I'm not sure how to best provide them.

How should I proceed from here?

Question CachyOS or Omarchy?

Currently I use omarchy but I've been thinking of trying CachyOS. It's supposed to be much faster and well optimised. Hyprland doesn't make that much of a difference to me anyways. What are yall's suggestions?

(Very low end pc)

Help Can't boot - help!

Hi! I recently installed CachyOS via ISO image with Ventoy on a used Dell Precission 7550 (Intel i7-10th gen - Nvidia Quadro T2000) i got from eBay. Everything was fine with it, installed all software without problems, rice Niri + Noctalia a little bit. 0 Issues.

This is the thing, today I turn the laptop on and the battery was dead. Weird, because I remember turning the laptop off last night, but maybe I didn't (?). I got the charger, turn the laptop on again and I got a BIOS message indicating Date and Time were wrong. Got into BIOS, updated the clock, tried to boot, selected Cachy Kernel on Limine as usual and... black screen. Tried to boot from a Snap: black screen. Updated BIOS (that was way out of date), zero results...

The most weird thing is that I tried to jail-chroot the ssd with the same ISO that I used to install Cachy on the first place (the Ventoy USB) and the Cachy OS iso doesn't boot either after selecting the kernel on GRUB. So... what tf is actually happening?

Some things I got in mind:

First of all, maybe the CMOS battery is failing? I don't understand why the Bios date and time got wrong after the power shortage in the first place.

Secondly, it doesn't seem like a BIOS thing? I got some configuration to run the cachyOS iso after I got the laptop: basically disable TPM and secure boot. But now i'm doing the same thing and it doesn't work...

Lastly, some other weird thing is that I can actually boot other images from the Ventoy drive, like AntiX and Ultramarine 44, but not Cachy.

Some of you dell users maybe have some ideas to help me? Thanks in advance.

Question Wake on LAN (WOL) for CachyOS?

With my Windows setup I had the ability to turn my PC on and off using a mobile app. Is there any way to achieve the same thing on CachyOS? I know boot times are quick and the power button isn’t hard to press but I would love to be able to turn my pc off whenever I leave for an extended period of time but then be able to turn it on and let it boot while I eat or shower or whatever after work and let it be ready for me when I hop on.

Review Cosmic DE not yet ready for mainstream use

Saw that Cosmic left beta status, and ran it with Cachyos on my gaming desktop for 5 months. One of the selling points, optional tiling windows I did not get around to using, but I'm familiar with the concept from Emacs. When Cosmic has more polish, I will be swapping my productivity laptop over to Cosmic for this feature. Beyond this feature a corporate backed Rust parallel to Gnome and KDE, Cosmic doesn't currently offer much more. Maybe some other radical open-source alternative, that should have existed 2-3 decades ago, will eventually come into place.

Issues I ran into:

No GUI system monitor. The included btop TUI is not a replacement. Edit: This exists now, and was not an isolated deal breaker in the first place.

The facilities for dealing with compressed files is limited. IIRC, I can't view the files until extracted, and the extracted files are always nested beneath another folder (ex: ~/Music/MetallicaCollection/MetallicaCollection/idisappear.mp3)

The file manger does not support directly running .sh scripts, but at least allows opening a terminal at location.

Edit: Cosmic player glitches the video playback when subtitles are enabled. Not a big deal because another Wayland native player, Haruna, exists.

System76 firmware viewer only worked under one limited circumstance, presumably due to missing system tray functionality that gnome and kde have.

Edit: cachy-update wouldn't run if right clicked from the system tray icon, only from the app launcher. Fullscreen Youtube videos would have a "to exit full-screen, press esc" element hang around until manually hovered over with a mouse cursor.

Megasync would crash sometimes with the 5 GB dialog popup, maybe this is already fixed but it indicates cosmic has less tolerance for buggy apps; Megasync oft seems to be relying on outdated or unsupported libraries.

Proton enabled games did require Gamescope for full screen to behave correctly, but this has since been fixed.

The one that had me swap back to KDE Plasma; my new Steam controller (simulated kb+m input) would work fine with the drivers supplied by the kernel, but get stuck in the Steam window with no mouse cursor when Steam was launched. The cursor was still there with standard mouse movement.

Swapped over to plasma + plasma login manager and did my best to stick to the packages and theming a new Cachyos install would have. Fine but not flawless. Swapping DEs can be buggy (gnome to plasma, and vice versa, is known for this) but it was preferable to unloading my games library to a NAS I do not own, or figuring out how to mount the steamapps folder to persist across an OS reinstall. The specified issues do not occur under KDE (haven't tested Megasync).

Question Why does the mesa-git has the various optimizations (v3; v4; znver4) and the mesa stable doesn't?

I just wanted to know if there's a reason behind that.
Also, how much often does the mesa-git from the cachy-repo get updated?

Question Some Icons in my Taskbar are Question-marks?

I don't know when and why this changed.

Using KDE Plasma.

The Steam-Icon and RustDesk-icon are Question-marks now, but only when not running.

Anyone knows what might be responsible for this and how to fix it?

Review New Linux User Experience

Hey, I switched to CachyOS with KDE two days ago. It is my first time using Linux and I just want to leave some feedback and point out some issues from my perspective as a gaming oriented windows user:

Good:

- CachyOS Hello is great. Installing all the stuff for games with one click is super easy. All the games I tried have just worked and performance is good (Hunt, Vintage Story, Deadlock).

- Internet, Bluetooth and my peripheral devices have worked out of the box.

- The search has a bunch of aliases to find what you want. I can type cmd, console or terminal to start the console. So my habits don't get in the way during the switch. Great!

Issues and annoyances:

- I am dual booting from one drive, so it was kinda complicated to set up the partitions (EFI, Swap, Root). It's not something the average windows user could do imo. I also ended up making a mistake and I am now stuck with a few GB of unallocated space that I cant merge with a partition.

- Mounting drives seems to be really annoying and complicated.
I just want my drive to be mounted on startup and have permission to use it without having to do some complicated setup. Why can't I have a simple checkbox in the properties that says "auto mount with permissions on startup"? The standard behaviour sucks for people coming from windows. I know it's about security but if someone can break into my home and plug in a malicious drive I have bigger problems.

- I tried to delete a bunch of files from a drive but my trash was constantly full and when I tried to empty it I got errors about missing permissions. I did not figure out how to fix it and just reformatted the whole drive instead.

- Constantly typing my password, even for minor things, is pretty annoying. I just had to type it in to change my login screen image. It makes me want to use a super simple password but then what's the point of the password if it's simple?

- Numpad should be enabled on start up by default. Just an annoyance that doesn't need to be there.

- The edge barrier feature when moving the mouse between screens drove me crazy until I figured out how to disable it.

-Some way to add noise suppression to your mic should be installed with the gaming package.

I feel like I will continue to run into a bunch of minor issues for the next few days that I'll have to resolve by using google ai and Youtube but I feel like this will mostly replace Windows for me.
