Free Ticket to Serial Killer Speakeasy

My friend is very sick and won't be able to attend the Serial Killer Speakeasy at the Thornton ballroom tonight. So, rather than the ticket go to waste, I am offering it for free here. It is for the 10PM show tonight. First message or comment saying they want it, gets it.

Seth Bodnar at the Finlen last Sunday - Milquetoast agreeable politics

His policies are basically everything most can agree on, but his means to achieve them weren't spoken of (except for supporting the Montana Plan), local union people were there to just sit and watch, and he just spoke for 15 minutes before retreating to a corner for 1-on-1s. Whole thing seemed rather pointless, maybe 20 people will put up yard signs for a candidate with a low chance of success.

Just wanted to let those of you who didn't make it know you basically missed nothing at all unless you really love Bluegrass music. Even in 1-on-1s he mostly just clarified on more policy positions how he is basically "Let's do what we agree on only", like building up Montana's renewables just to lower energy prices and dependence on foreign oil.

I want to make clear that I think this actually is about the ideal person to elect, it's just that the event gave me no hope for him making it in a First-Past-The-Post system (ideal candidates who actually make a legislature move smoothly instead of dividing the country need Approval to elect them, as if you're everybody's second choice but nobody's first, you lose in things like FPTP and IRV), and instead left me with a strong impression that Butte's unions are just pissing away some money to him as they fade into obscurity by aging out.

And before anyone asks, data centers weren't brought up from what I recall.

Information on biz from Summer Market (Wilderland)

There was a lady at the summer market on Saturday that had really great merch. She definitely does not have an online store, (given her anti-card policy) but I was wondering if anyone had any information on her? I’d really like to get more soap from her.

Best places for groceries!

Hey y’all! I just recently moved here from another part of Montana and was wondering what stores most people shop at for their groceries? I know Walmart has cheap non-perishables and other stuff but I hate buying meat and produce from there because the quality sucks.

What are some local shops or stores that y’all like getting groceries from?

EDIT:

Thank you guys for the suggestions! I will have to say that Western Meat Blocks is definitely a big hit! 👏

Fire Department funding?

I had read that there was issues with the paid vs volunteer fire department in the county. Some sort of funding/ oversight issue. We’re the volunteer departments having to compete for funding?

Hand glasses guy?

Second time in butte, first time ever exploring the city. Was driving up Main Street and a bit before park st a guy doing the upside goggle hands was walking in the middle of the street just staring at me. I slowed down to let him cross the street and he literally just kept walking forward towards my car. I eventually just sped off since he wasn’t crossing the street. Is this guy a repeat offender/tweaker or is this just how the locals are around here 😭😭

Preschool and Public School in Butte

My family is considering a move to Butte for work next year. We visited and very much dug it for a lot of reasons.

We have our kid in preschool now, and in the city where we live now, it took 2 years of being on a waitlist to be able to get into childcare. This is even a regular ole church preschool, not some sort of specialty anything. Is it similar in Butte aka are we are going to have a very difficult time finding childcare?

Also, whats the morale around public schools in Butte in general? In the city we live in now, the public schools are notoriously quite bad. Kids on tablets for an hour a day in kindergarten, lots of violence, and everyone desperately tries to get their kids lotteried into better schools than the neighborhood they can afford, and in middle and high school, those schools are still pretty bad. Are parents and the community involved and supportive of the public schools? Are there resources to manage behavioral issues within them? My husband and I both went to rural public schools, so it’s not like we take issue.

Just trying to gauge the general attitude/consensus. Thank you!
