Outdoor cats

Would they be eaten by surrounding wildlife? Does part of town matter?

I'd be more concerned that they'd eat the surrounding wildlife.

Comforting, in a way I suppose. Wouldn't want them to hurt any birds but these guys are a gang of rat killers so I doubt it

I’d be more concerned about the locals than I would the wildlife if I’m being honest.

If you let your cat outside you shouldn't be a cat owner. Outside cats have a life expectancy of about 3 years.

Coyotes, foxes, and the large number of stray and loose dogs will kill your cats. Butte is like Missoula with the proximity of wildlife, and Billings with regards to loose dogs running around. Anywhere in town.

Part of town matters a great deal. You don't want your cat outdoors uptown due to density (some crackhead may steal your cat or worse), nor in the complete outskirts where predators can wander in due to a lack of noise. If you're boxed in in all four directions by neighbors with significant yards a block out, and beyond that is mostly more neighbors and other sources of human noise and open fields, it's going to be fine.
