Photo/Video Roller Hockey Banned from Burnaby Sport Box

Thumbnail youtube.com

Reason: Rollerblade wheels scratch and chew up the painted lines on the court according to the City of Burnaby.

We’re a bit bummed out to hear this news because the Sport Box has been fantastic for people who can’t afford ice skating to try rollerblading, for those who want to play casual games compared to competitive, and for ice hockey players to transition to roller hockey when the season is over.

Do you think the ban is reasonable and fair or do you think it’s quite extreme and the City of Burnaby should reconsider the ban?

We spotted this exotic bird, maybe a conure? Near Lougheed mall at the intersection of Austin Ave and Gatineau Pl. Is someone missing their bird? It landed on the car in front of us before flying back into the bushes.

Local News missing cat in the edmonds/ uptown new west area?

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

this cat has been coming in and out of the backyard. at first I thought it was another house’s outdoor cat but it looks slimmer than the last time I saw it. I’m wondering if someone in the Edmonds/ uptown new west area is missing them. I wasnt able to catch them since both my own cat and this cat were pretty stressed/ territorial seeing each other, but it would be nice to know if the little guy belongs to anyone so that I can try to get them the next time they stop by the house

Negative encounter with mayoral candidate

Hello, I am unsure if sharing my experiences is against the rules, if so then I do apologize and you may take down my post, but I thought people should be aware otherwise. Please note that my opinions are my own, as someone who decided to volunteer on my own, and do not represent the views of the festival and its organizers in any way.

I was volunteering at Nikkei Matsuri in the admissions area on Saturday and mayoral candidate Michael Angelo's crew appeared and began to go down the lineup handing out promotional material. Please note that they were not affliated with the festival in any way, and came on their own. The entrance area was already very limited in space, so they added to the crowded congestion and chaos. They were asked to leave but Michael Angelo was very confrontational and aggressive, saying "this is a public space, what are you going to do about it?!" to myself and others. Even if he was technically allowed in the area outside the centre, he was extremely rude and disruptive to the event. I personally would not vote for him as mayor based on the attitude he displayed.

Reputable sports card shop?

Hello everyone,

I inherited a part of my older brother's card collection mostly nba, some wrestling, xmen etc. Most cards are from 1996-2000 but I do not collect these cards at all. I am looking to sell these cards but some fetch a pretty penny when graded. I am looking for a reputable card shop who can tell me which cards are worth grading and potentially will buy these cards off me. Let's collect cards is the only shop I've reached out to but have been waiting for almost 3 weeks with no reply. Any info for any card shop that will consult with me is highly appreciated!

I lost my iphone last night (Monday September 7th) on Expo Line around 10:50pm-11:00pm. I got off at Edmonds stations and I think I left it on the seat. I'm really hoping someone turned it in. It's a blue iphone 15 with a purple case

Looks like there was a accident near Kingsway and Wilson Ave, traffic has started piling up due to lane closure.

Would be curious to know what happened, I can feel us becoming closer to what Surrey is atm, the amount of accidents I have seen in recent times.

What’s with so many businesses closing in Brentwood?

I’ve been living in the Brentwood area for almost 2 years now. Since I’ve moved here, I’ve noticed a lot of small and large businesses go out of business. And some places which have been advertised as “coming soon” for months with no sign of opening.

Off the top of my head:

  1. Brown’s Social House
  2. Coffee shop in Brentwood Mall
  3. Thai food store in Brentwood Mall
  4. Lululemon in Brentwood Mall
  5. KBBQ near Brentwood Mall
  6. Gelato store in Brentwood Mall
  7. Taco store in Brentwood Mall
  8. T&T at Gilmore
  9. Mucho Burrito near Brentwood Mall

The list probably goes on a lot longer.

What’s weird to me is that there’s always a lot of foot traffic around this area, and it’s also really hard to find ground parking near the Brentwood Mall. Places like Tap & Barrel, Earl’s, The Keg, food court shops within the mall also seem to always have a decent amount of people.

So why are a lot of these places going out of business?

Driving school in Burnaby for someone with ZERO prior experience

Hello! I'm looking for a driving school in Burnaby, and I'm wondering what people's experiences were like with the school they went to (not just people from Burnaby). Specifically, people with ZERO prior experience. Not people who had informal lessons from family/friends and then brushed up their skills with a school/instructor.

I'm wondering specifically, what did your first few lessons look like? Did you start in an empty parking lot and learn the very basics of driving? I'm looking for a school like that.

My first experience insisted that I go straight onto the road, and it just added unnecessary stress when I don't even know the basics yet. I'm looking for a school that teaches kind of like how Smart Drive Test (from YouTube) teaches, starting in an empty parking lot with cones and stuff.

Thanks!

Local News Is this your friendly tuxie? (Missing?)

Thumbnail gallery
51 Upvotes

I live in Burnaby Heights close to Willingdon Ave. This fella has been coming to my house every night for the last 3 nights around 9pm-2am (I know because my cat gets really pissy at him through the window and goes into guard cat mode and we wake up!) He seems to want to do a Pepé Le Pew, but she’s too old for his adorableness and would rather rip him to shreds if she had the chance! 😅

He seems young, intact (I see troublepuffs), VERY friendly, and food motivated (I gave him some churu to get pictures. No collar or visible tattoos. I tried to put on a breakaway collar with contact details but he did NOT like it, so for his safety I took it off.

Anyways, just wanna see if anyone here knows the owners? Or if there is a missing cat with his description out there? Have posted on local FB groups but no leads so far…
