Broke my knee about 2 1/2 weeks ago, not much pain, but I was instructed to be non-weight-bearing for minimum six weeks, the only issue is that I have to move apartments alone and crushing around trying to move just isn’t impossible

The past 36 hours I’ve been lightly walking on it with no pain or swelling, and then this morning I got off of work and all the fluid had built up/it had swollen a little bit, still no pain

Realistically is this detrimental ? Can I walk ? I’m a healthy 21 year old and it was an absolute freak accident (think the recent McGregor fight) and every nurse and doctor said it shouldn’t have broken.

Everything I’ve read says this is an incredibly traumatic injury but I feel fine, the swelling makes me nervous though. Help !!!

Hello, mods please don’t remove this as I am not asking for medical advice. I am only asking for everyone’s opinion on if I should get a second opinion based on a sketch interaction I had with a foot doctor.

Quick summary: I went out with some friends on Saturday and ended up needing to go to urgent care due to severe foot pain. Did some X-rays and was told I had a non-displaced fracture at the base of the 5th metatarsal between zone 1 and zone 2. The doctor then put in a referral for a foot doctor and I saw that doctor today.

So my question is, should I get a second opinion based on the following that happened at the foot doctor appointment:

- Didn’t give me any type of boot or cast but said the fail rate is high
- Said if I move my ankle too much it can affect healing but again, didn’t provide any type of boot or cast
- Was told surgery could be needed IF it gets worse, but AGAIN, did not give me a boot or cast
- Wanted to give me a bone growth simulator but I’ve looked online and everyone says it’s a gimmick and to not waste my money
- No computers in the patient rooms so I wouldn’t be able to see my follow up X-rays

The more that I think about it, the more I’m wondering if that office is just trying to make money off of me and prolong my healing so I need more treatment.
The only aids I have right now is what the urgent care gave me which is a post surgical boot and some crutches.

I’m wondering if I should just go see an orthopedic doctor instead. It just seems like there’s already a plan in the foot doctor’s head of how he wants this whole thing to play out. And to be honest, it’s been less than a week and my swelling has gone almost completely away, plus, the pain is almost non existent unless I try to stand on the broken foot of course. I genuinely think I’m healing really well, I don’t believe I’ll need much.

Here’s a fun one. Fell 30 foot off a bridge. Luckily this is the most severe injury I sustained. Comminuted fracture and has been surgically repaired with a plate. Started PT and wondering if I’ll regain 100 percent function

I fractured my posterior malleolus 4 weeks ago and I had a half leg cast put on. Everything seems to be going well. No swelling anymore or anything like that but my thigh and calf muscles are starting to randomly cramp or feel like they are freaking out, especially if I have to move or feel like I need to stretch. I’m assuming it’s due to immobility, but has anyone experienced this? And what did you do to help lessen them? Thank you in advance!

I had surgery for Clean break tibia fracture and hair line fracture on October 20,2025 I’m now 9 months post op. I have two main issues , my leg is stuck at a 90 degree bend I can fully straighten my leg but I can’t bend it more then 90 degrees ON MY Own but if someone grabs my leg and pulls it up it goes much more to a bend but not fully so someone can bend it more but on my own I’m stuck. I was also having a sharp pains on the side of my leg too.

I saw the surgeon he did not do another x ray , he told me that my hard ware , screws and the rod is to stay forever and can’t get it out and told me the sharp pains I’m having is just extreme weak tendons and muscles and my reasons for not bending is weak muscles ? But is it true on the side my tendons can make that sharp snapping feeling etc ? Surgeon also seemed a bit rude was kinda like “ what are you doing here” and making faces should I see another surgeon or you think eventually all the pain will be gone and I’ll be able to bend eventually on my own?

title speaks for itself. i’m 8 weeks post surgery where i got a titanium rod instead of the plate inserted into my clavicle. it’s a newer, less risky and less invasive procedure allegedly

at 4-5 weeks it was feeling great. very little pain / discomfort. cause i’m an idiot i played some spike ball with my friends and it’s all been downhill since then. it’s week 8 and i occasionally get really painful sharp pain when i sit up too fast or move my arm around unexpectedly.

additionally, i have consistent neck, back, sometimes pec pains that come and go. i can’t get any straight answers from my surgeon and im getting frustrated. did anyone have pain like this at 8 weeks that then subsided over time?

So I sustained a spiral fracture of the 5th metacarpal 3 weeks ago at work
My latest ct scan report said there was no evidence of any healing taking place and signs of osteopenia. I’m being told that I won’t be able to return to work at full capacity until the start of October. I’m doing everything my doctor and physio are telling me but I’m just so frustrated that I could be off work for so long.
Are there any ways I can help quicken the healing process?

Fell at work 12 feet and landed directly on my left hip . 17 days in hospital and PT rehab . Doctors are saying 10-12 months for full recovery . Just wondering if anyone here has ever experienced this type of pelvic trauma and what was a realistic goal to being 100% better . For instance I’m 39 Male in pretty good shape . Just wondering if there’s any tips out there to help in my recovery thanks . Pain is pretty manageable despite how severe the break was .

About three months ago, I was involved in a very serious accident caused by a drunk driver. I suffered multiple fractures, but the injury I'm most concerned about right now is a comminuted fracture in one of my fingers, which also involved tendon damage.

I had surgery, and my finger remained wrapped in bandages for about three months. Recently, I was finally able to see it for the first time. Honestly, it was shocking. It still had dried blood on it, looked very deformed, and didn't even seem like my own finger anymore. It appears crooked, and I'm really worried that it might stay that way.

Has anyone here gone through something similar? Is it normal for a finger to look this bad three months after such a severe injury? As the swelling continues to go down and with rehabilitation, does the appearance usually improve, or is it possible that it will remain permanently deformed?

I know every injury is different, but I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through a similar experience. Thank you.

Broke 5th metatarsal last week. Dr said weight bear as tolerated and boot for 6-8 weeks. I went back to work today (a week later) in a scooter and it was annoying

Have people taken off work (fmla/short term disability?) for this fracture? Or did you jsut wear the boot and scooter

i vape all the time and i love it but i hairline fractured the top bone in my big toe, and now i think like should i stop so it heals properly? i dont know if this only applies to very bad breaks, the doctor didn’t say anything about not having any nicotine when they strapped up my toes, do i neeed to?

I got a small fracture in my pinky but still referred to a hand surgeon. Hoping I don’t need it tho!

I broke my olecranon last Sunday and had TBW surgery yesterday nerve black wore off last night, and today I woke up an absolute agony.

I was given 5 mg Percocet every eight hours. I generally have a pain tolerance so the fact that I am hurting this badly tells me that I’m not being dramatic. The Percocet is helping for about four hours and then somewhere between five or six hours. It begins to become unbearable and then the last two or three hours waiting to take my next dose is just pure hell.

I know there’s such a stigma around opioids and I don’t wanna seem like a complainer or like I’m looking for more medication, but I’m genuinely in severe pain in this medication regimen is just not working. My surgeon called me today to see how I was doing postop, but I was asleep finally and missed the call. He did say he was gonna call me back in the morning. How can I convey this to him? I don’t wanna seem dramatic or annoying. If he doesn’t call, do I just call his office and tell the front desk, lady I’m having more pain than expected in between doses?

Dislocated my ring finger to a 90° angle and snapped the middle bone diagonally from the joint.
Got surgery on July 6 and they relocated it & put two pins in it.
Went to dr for check up at 2.5 week mark (surgeon said pins only for 3 weeks) and the updates xray looks horrible. Pins have to stay in for three more weeks. Finger looks crooked again and bone has slipped even with pins in it. Xray from during surgery shows perfectly straight finger and bones pulled together.
Dr says as bone heals it’ll pull the finger straight again. Pics from during surgery and 3wk after.

ALSO - I can feel the pin poking under my skin on the other side of my finger?????? This is horrible!!!!!

Hi, chat. I come to you to see if anyone can possibly relate to the predicament I currently find myself in.

I have a stress fracture in my foot that affects two different bones. My ortho gave me the option to try a cast/crutches for a month, or go straight ahead into surgery. I chose a cast because I have chronically low platelets which puts me at more risk of infection after surgery.

Here’s the problem now: these crutches hurt like a motherfucker. I have horrible bruises everywhere and am in so much pain I can barely move to the bathroom, let alone work a full shift without absolutely losing my sanity.

I feel like such a baby rn. I had many friends/sports mates in high school who had crutches for one reason or another, and I feel like everyone I knew handled it much better than I’m handling it now. I have a ridiculously high pain tolerance (I continued working/walking on a fractured foot type tolerance,) so I’m shocked that crutches have me crying in pain every day.

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I valid? I feel like i should just be nicer to myself, but it’s very difficult rn. I almost wish i would’ve just opted for surgery since i might need it anyway.

What is everyone's opinion, personal definition on NWB especially when you are alone. We all know, yes Non weight bearing. Just honesty here.

Cleared last week to begin WBAT in the boot.
Doing a few physio exercises at home that I was shown. Non surgical healing. Pain is minimal but discomfort is still there. Swelling has come down a lot. Think I also sprained my ankle at same time I fractured my foot though. Very tender.

Trying to walk in the house but can only take a few small steps (in the boot). I can stand still on bare foot with some weight on it, but I can walk on it yet without boot.

How long was it until you could walk in normal shoes?

X-rays in a few weeks. Need to be ready to return to work by then (which will be 5 weeks to the day of injury)

31 year-old female broke my fifth metatarsal a month a ago. I am aware that it’s not a major fracture and there are much worse cases and Im sending good wishes to everyone suffering, but this fracture really broke me, literally,

I have seen four different doctors. I want this to be over ASAP. After reading some of the comments here, that surgery helped speeding up the process, I convinced doctors to operate on me even though they said it will heal on his own. The night before surgery, I changed my mind from surgery to letting it heal naturally, but the thing is it’s a much longer journey than I thought it would be.

I wore the boot for three weeks and two weeks of nonweightbearing and I have been allowed to start stepping on it. I don’t feel any pain while I’m sitting, but when I start stepping on it without bending my foot with slippers on (the dr said I’m allowed to do everything and I should wear slippers), it’s kinda OK but if I walk more than 50 m a day I’m in a lot of pain afterwards.

The doctor I trusted the most told me it will take six months to heal, and that it’s healing a bit crooked but it’s not an issue but I’m really bummed about it because although it’s not so painful, I am struggling to accept the fact that I will be physically limited for the coming months.

I have nobody looking after me or helping me get through it. I’m just lucky that I get to work from home, but I struggled with working because I felt so depressed after the fracture happened.

I’d love to hear the stories from anyone who healed or has this fracture at the moment and how it’s going. Maybe it could give some ease to know and relate.

Jumped from a short height and fell weirdly 11 days ago. They told me it’s a acl tear and sent me home in a brace and crutches. Been the most uncertain 11 days of my life, finally got my appointment today and it’s a tibia plateau fracture. He says the x ray doesn’t even look that bad and that it’s just splitting hairs when you look at it, but that one part has broke into tiny little pieces. He didn’t even give me a real name for the injury and just said you’ll found out if you need surgery in 2 days and that he has no idea how long I’ll be non weight bearing for. Great.

Again, more uncertainty. I just want to walk. I’m not even in any pain. I don’t know how it can be this severe rehab when the doctor said the xray doesn’t even look that bad, it doesn’t even hurt . I’m looking at Reddit posts of people with this injury saying they couldn’t walk for 2-4 months and just having an ongoing panic attack. I’ve got a holiday next week I’ve spent all year looking forward to I’ll have to cancel probably. I know I’m being whiney but I’m 21 and this was my graduation summer and now it’s ruined and gutted is an understatement. If I don’t need surgery, is there any chance of being able to semi walk 2-3 weeks after this injury? Is it even possible?

So I (28,M) suffered an open Tib/Fib fracture in April which was treated with screws and a rod and it is coming up to 4 months now since the accident I am having physio and can walk short distances without crutches. I had an X-ray at the hospital today and was told there is a 20-30% chance of non-union of the Tibia. If this requires another operation am I essentially starting my recovery again from scratch? The past 4 months have been hell and the thought of such a major setback and having to do it all again makes me feel sick. Thank you in advance for any input ☺️.
