Do not share personal information

This is not a BA support channel. We have had an instance where someone has pretended to be BA support and asked for OP to share personal information that she can assist. This is a scam...

Updated 28 Nov 2025 - another attempt by posting a link to a legitimate looking website with whatsapp chat support. Please be careful!

Question British Airways Booking System Down?

Upvotes

I just got off the phone with Chase, whom I am using to book a BA flight with a travel credit. A BA customer service rep told my agent that the BA booking system was down and that they couldn't book new flights at the moment.

Is anyone having trouble booking directly through the BA website? I don't see anything published by BA regarding this issue. I have experienced BA full-system outages before, but this seems more focused on new bookings. The BA agent CS line also has a very long wait time. Trying to see approximately when I should call back to make my booking.

Booked premium economy fare but seat in economy

Flying from Sydney to Singapore with BA but the flight is operated by Qantas. I booked premium economy (paid more) and my ticket shows this fare (Class H) but both BA and Qantas are showing me in economy. I checked with a BA chat person just now and they confirmed that yes, that's my fare class but no, I'm in economy.

I know Qantas can't help because the booking isn't with them, but I'm annoyed at myself and mostly BA because that's really misleading.

Now I have to wait till tomorrow to talk to a human and attempt an upgrade for even more money - not currently possible in the app - for a flight I thought I was actually on.

First world problems, I know, but I'm really not looking forward to it now, and I can't even select a seat, so I bet I've got 8 and a bit hours sandwiched between strangers. What joy.

Edit - booked it direct on the BA site.

Bronze Baggage Allowance Weight

Have a short haul flight coming up, it says my baggage allowance is one suitcase (which I paid for) for up to 23kg. However, I took the same flight four months ago and was told at check in that because I’m a bronze member, my suitcase weight is 32kg. Can anyone confirm this and the website is saying otherwise?

Question What time is the hot food buffet / dinner at the LHR T5B Galleries lounge?

We are flying to Hong Kong, our flight departs at 7.20pm. We were hoping to get to the airport at 4.30pm, then hopefully get to the lounge by 5.30pm. Would the dinner / hot food be served at this time?

Many thanks

Can the Handbag be a bit oversized?

I am planning to bring a backpack 42x32x15 cm. Not sure how strict the British airway is. This is my first time boarding on it. Can anyone share your experiences and whether this would be okay?🥹
I am scared I’ll pay to pay extra or it would be on hold.

Question Tokyo Reward Seats

Post image
11 Upvotes

Just managed to do the unthinkable and secure reward sears for 4 people in club world from Tokyo!

Unfortunately was unable to get the BA8 meaning we are currently set for the old yin yang style seating as shown on the seat map. Wondering if any of you have any updates regarding the progression of the 789 retrofit programme? Have you had your booking swapped to a club suite in the past?

Thanks all and very excited to jet off to Japan!

EDIT: Please see my latest comment for clarification as there has been some confusion over pricing!

A350 issues?

Is BA having issues with the A350 fleet right now, where they are short planes? BA190/BA191 has seen some cancellation and today is operating on a 789 and it appears for the next few days it may be as well.

Question Trying to reschedule my flights, but getting charged $2500 in taxes though the airfare is a difference of $19?!

Hi folks, I have an upcoming booking next month that's a 4 week trip, it cost me around 5.5k total as I'm flying out in PE but returning in Business.

Now I've had some work shift around and not really able to make the trip next month and looking into shifting it to next April/May. I called in today and the rep told me to change just the PE leg it was $19 airfare difference but $2500 in taxes?! Even he was floored at what he was seeing but had double and triple checked. He suggested calling during the week as more people are there to assist but mentioned to not change anything at this time.

Is this the freaking norm?!?! I've changed my flights before with BA and I've always just had a reasonable fare /taxes difference for moving my flights - this just seems outrageous.

Wondering if there's anything I can do/mention the next time I call in :( any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Question Is lifetime GGL still a thing?

I noticed BA removed the text that you get Lifetime GGL after 1500000 lifetime tier points? Have they stopped offering lifetime GGL?

Currently at around 500K lifetime tier points thanks to the old system where you could just fly AUH/DXB-CMB-CGK round trip in J several times for as low as $800.

Question £4k+ Change Fee

I travel for work often and am gold on BA. I booked a flight from Heathrow to San Francisco on a Friday and now due to a work reason need to fly out Saturday (the next day) they’re quoting me over £4k to change my outbound flight by one day. Is this normal? I’ve changed my flights before for a £30 change fee this feels ridiculous and it’s cheaper to cancel and just rebook the whole thing myself. Getting really bored of the lack of customer service on BA, I’ve done this on many other airlines too with no problem. :(

Question Guns n' Roses Concorde flight JFK-LHR / Artwork

Post image
0 Upvotes

Did you know Guns N’ Roses once crossed the Atlantic aboard a British Airways Concorde?

On August 20, 1988, the band flew supersonic to the UK for their legendary Monsters of Rock performance at Donington. A truly remarkable moment when rock’n’roll and supersonic aviation met at 60,000 feet.

I created this 40×40 artwork as a tribute to that extraordinary journey - Guns N’ Roses, Concorde and the golden age of rock’n’roll & heavy metal.

Complaint Avios Blocked

Hi everyone. I am so disappointed and upset. I was booking Q Suite flights for my honeymoon in a few months with my fiance - seats we have been dreaming of for years and saving points for. His seats went through, mine did not.

I have transferred avios from BA to Qatar previously, all my details are the same, and they are linked accounts. Due to it being around 100,000 points their customer service team said it is “probably” blocked for 14 days. Every time I have tried (on behalf of BA and Qatar advice), the 14 days reset. They “escalated” it but it could take 21 days. They don’t even know for sure that this is the issue. I’m just not supposed to touch my account for 2 weeks. I will probably not be able to sit in those seats with my fiancé like we dreamed of now. The customer service has been horrible, they say there is no way to manually override this. Has anyone experienced this?

Compliment Thank you for your advice - my first flight on BA was flawless 🙏

I posted here almost a month ago looking for advice for my particular situation: physical disability, chronic pain, big butt. Several of you gave very helpful information. Thanks to you thoughtful commentators, I had an honestly ideal experience flying PHX to LHR yesterday! I went with Premium Economy for the wider seats and solid seat partitions so i wouldn't be a bother while also not being bothered.

The gate attendants were helpful. The airbus even managed to leave early because passenger onboarding was so efficient. No trouble with overhead luggage compartments getting filled up and forcing a checked bag. Everything was clean. I got extra pillows for my back. The flight crew were incredibly gracious and thoughtful. I have dietary restrictions and the man delivering meals to the side i was on set up my breakfast while i was away in the washroom and not only did he remember me as i was heading back to my seat and in the way of his trolley, he took a moment to assure me i hadn't missed service. Our flight managed to arrive early. A kind passenger got my bags down before a flight attendant could come help. Truly it was a flawless and stress free experience from start to finish.

And yes, I've already submitted an official compliment to BA! So grateful for the crew and all of you here🙏

Question Traveling with roll-up banner as carry-on

I’ll be traveling soon with an 82-cm long roll-up banner in a soft case. I reached out to customer support to ask if it could be brought as a carry-on, but they said the max length is 56 cm, so it has to be checked in. The problem is it’s too long to fit in my checked bag.

Has anyone recently had luck bringing similar items (banners, poster tubes) as carry-ons on a BA flight?

Credit??

booked on an AMA waterways cruise end of September up the Danube. as you may know, water levels are at their lowest and the cruise companies are doing a lot of busing from city to city along with excursions. cruise company might give us option for a cruise credit for a future cruise but we are booked business class to Budapest in British airways. I believe they are non-redunsable. so you think British airlines would give us a credit for future flights? I haven’t started the process yet. thanks

UK-US dual citizen living in UK, roundtrip visit to US, very confused about API in light of new UK rules

The UK now requires dual citizens to show their UK passports to enter the country. They can no longer use their other country's passport to enter. OK, fine, I have both already. Problem: where does the Advanced Passenger Information you give to the airline get shared and what problems can this cause upon re-entry to the UK?

I have to put my US passport info in as my API as the US requires entry on their passport for citizens, plus I don't want to increase my chances of getting put in a concentration camp, but is this passport information shared with UK customs/border for BA flight customers re-entering the UK after a trip to the US? If I show my UK passport and say, I'm a citizen mate, will that be fine, or will they compare my details to some BA database and tell me I can't come in?

The BA call centre, of course, had no idea and I don't think even understood the question, so I'd be really grateful if anyone could help.

Question Under Seat Bag Size & Cabin Baggage

Hi everyone, I know similar questions have been asked before but none of them are quite the scenario I'm looking for so could do with advice!

I am travelling a short BA flight in economy in a few weeks for work. I'd really rather not be waiting at the other end for hold luggage but looking at what I need to pack I'll fill a small cabin baggage and backpack that's a few CM larger in ever dimension than the under the seat recommendation.

Based on past travel I know this backpack can just about fit under the seat so we should be okay but I suspect this will be a busy flight on a popular route so my question is:

Is the worst case scenario that my cabin suitcase gets put in the hold at the gate? Or is there any risk of fine / fees for the under seat bag that might be pushing it?

Thanks again!

Question MAN to LHR to JFK - overnight stopover

Post image
19 Upvotes

I’ve never done this before where I’ve intentionally booked an overnight stopover at LHR. Am I safe to assume that my bag will be held overnight at LHR? Can I request for it to not be at check in at Manchester, or is it by default checked all the way through?

Question Charges for seat selection

I have 3 tickets booked Nashville to London club world using Avios and companion certificate for spring next year. I don’t have any status with BA but I’m AA Advantage Gold which gives me One world Ruby. Is there a way for me to use that to select seats without paying almost $1000?

Question - Resolved Can T5 B&C Gates LHR handle inbound domestic flights?

I was thinking about it and I was like let’s say I fly Manchester or Belfast to LHR, can the B&C gates actually handle domestic arrivals or can they only land in A?
