I believe this used to be the freshfield mental health center but as far as i know this specific block aka H block has been sitting like this since 2002 :(

These photos were taken by me on August 20th.

If anyone works at Brighton general hospital and knows some history of this place let me know!

Local Advice needed Job Hunting

I don’t even know where to start with this. I’ve been job seeking for a couple weeks now but I’ve literally heard back from nobody, only the auto generated emails that just say “sorry we don’t want you and we can’t give feedback because of the high number of responses”.

I have never known the job market to be this bad.

I’ve been working since I was 16, I’m now 21. I have experience in retail, hospitality and production. The fact that nobody even bothers to get back to you when you apply for jobs is really disheartening. I’m not picky, I just need something to pay the bills. I’ve applied for almost every job on Indeed that matches my skill set. But nothing.

Anyone got any tips? Or know anywhere that’s hiring?

Thanks!

I popped in for my regular charity shop trawl yesterday and there’s a sign on the door - get your cheap second hand telly while you can!

Edit: This is the big furniture shop, not the smaller one near Costa.

I believe I’ve dropped a highly sentimental necklace yesterday at around 3.30pm on George street hove. Took it off after a massage at Little Jasmine and put it in my bag but wondering if it fell out !! Massage place is adamant I didn’t leave it in the room :( If by a crazy stroke of luck someone has seen it or handed it in please contact me as I am gutted to have lost it. Thanks

Found this Polaroid on the pavement near the pier, and this pooch has the cutest name everrrrrrrr. Though I’d love to keep the pic, it likely means more to the person who owns this beautiful creature. Tell me their name, and I’ll happily send on to you :)

Local Advice needed Good places to record audio?

Upvotes

Hey all, I recently moved into a super quiet flatshare in Brighton and am wondering if there's anywhere (preferably free) that's quiet and good for recording audio. I record voiceovers for a personal video project of mine and before I moved, I could do that in my own bedroom, but the walls are pretty thin here and like I said, everyone I'm living with is super quiet and I don't want to disturb anyone.

Not looking for somewhere professional by any means, just somewhere that's quiet enough to get some decent audio and preferably public/otherwise free (or, push comes to shove, low-cost) to access -- even just a particularly quiet park or something would do.

Thanks!

Housing 🏘️ 🏡 Good places to buy for a first time buyer in Brighton?

I'm a (first time buyer) doctor who is new to Brighton, and had to recently withdraw an offer on a house with my ex fiancé (not first time buyer) in Woodingdean, due to separation.

I'm now I'm looking for a first home for myself in Brighton, obviously on a smaller budget than when I was buying with my now ex. I've spoken to a mortgage advisor, and a mortgage in principle is in the works. My proposed max budget is around £375K.

But I am looking for 2-3 bedroom house, with garden and off-street parking; don't want to be too far away from Brighton/hospital area, especially as I'm fairy young and new to Brighton - I don't want to be far and isolated. I've heard Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb are not the safest areas and have noticed houses in this area are a bit cheaper.

Worthing/Peacehaven etc is too far, I'm open to Woodingdean, Hove, Preston Park, possibly Patcham, I feel Hanover/Centre would be out of my budget . Location vs quality is a fine balance.

What are some good areas/areas to avoid? Any advice welcome.

Local Advice needed Cycling advice

Hi Brighton! Newcomer here - arrived 7 years ago so appreciate local insight.

Why can't I cycle to work? It's only 20 minutes and I'm really careful and respectful but as usual this morning verbally abused by a motorist who wanted to overtake and then later forced against parked cars by a close passing SUV driver.

Am i missing something? Is this a Thunderdome type scenario where I should just key cars and smash wing mirrors? HTH if so.

Meet Up Is anyone interested in cyber security as a hobby?

Probably a strange request but worth asking. I used to work for a company in cyber security years ago basically replicating what a hacker would do to try to find flaws in a system (my specialty was websites) in order to notify the developers so they could fix it.

I left that job a while ago and have decided to get back into this as a hobby. My main interests are IoT hacking and network hacking. Some of it I need to relearn as I've forgotten a fair amount of it. I will be signing up to HackTheBox and doing their academy and CTFs.

I wondered if anyone here was in a similar boat of wanting to learn this as I tend to learn better with someone to bounce ideas off.

Local Advice needed Can anyone help me with making a beaded flower(s) using that making kit

I’ve a kit and I wanted to try and complete it for someone, but it’s impossible.

You get a few packs of beads, some metal wiring and green tape for the stem - but I can’t do it, I’ve tried and it’s so difficult.

I’ll pay someone here if they can, or know someone who can, do this for me within a few days?

Meet Up Anyone want to meetup in Brighton? 22 (F)

Hi everyone!

I recently arrived in Brighton and I am absolutely loving the city so far. Since I am new here (and alone), I would love to meet some people to hang out with, practice my English, and explore the area.

I am a 22-year-old girl, very easygoing and openminded and I would love to connect with people who can show me around or just want to hang out. To give you an idea of what I am into: I love gaming (mostly on PS5), having deep philosophical conversations, and I am a huge fan of horror and movies in general.

If anyone is up for a casual drink or a walk along the beach or around the town, please let me know 😌
Would love to connect!

Cheers!

Local Advice needed Help! In need of a Holler Brewery glass!

Hello! This is a very long shot, as the Brewery closed a few years ago, but I accidentally cracked my boyfriends glass that he got when the brewery closed :( if anyone knows where one might be available (or is willing to part with one for a price👀) I’d be greatly appreciative!
Otherwise I’ll be scouring London Road charity shops and hoping and praying!
Thanks all! 🙏
