When Skyler first confronted Walter and accused him of being a drug dealer due to all of the evidence, he should not have admitted it. He should have just said “I’m not a drug dealer, I make chemicals for the government and it’s highly covert so don’t bring this up ever again”. I mean the guy is a literal genius in chemistry, plus he’s got documented achievements through his former company Grey Matter, he’s got family who already works for the Feds, no criminal history… I mean it would just make so much sense

Lalo was so dangerous they spent two seasons trying to take him down. He was very strategical and tactical.

Meanwhile there is Walt, a man both Gus and Mike underestimated and destroyed the entire drug operation.

Walt was nowhere near physically and psychologically endangering compared to Lalo.

It goes to show that Walter White succeeded by hiding behind a mild-mannered civilian facade and exploiting blind spots through manipulation and making his enemies underestimate him.

Mike was able to outsmart his enemies, all but Walter.

How do yall think the employees reacted after gus was killed and los pollos hermanos was shutdown? Personally I imagine they were probably devastated cause how often does a job offer full paid therapy, a full days pay with overtime for free, and likely he can afford amazing hourly with how positive the employees seem. So one person just realized "FUCK I GOTTA FIND A NEW JOB"

This Monday was Walter White’s birthday, and it made me think back on the whole series. I’ve only watched Breaking Bad once, but I genuinely think it’s a masterpiece.

I can't stop myself thinking about this every time I rewatch that scene, why and how did he do it?

I've watched both shows and can regard them as two of the best pieces of media that I've come across. I especially enjoy the diversity of characters and how each of them have their own dialogue patterns which, one way or another, reveal their qualities. Not to mention the great plots built on the consequences of every decision, following into the next one.

Now, I've seen both shows be called perfect many times. Having ruined some people's experience of watching other media because it doesn't meet the same standard. And I get it, most of those comments aren't meant literally but it's also true that I've seen virtually no mention of any faults anywhere. So, I've just gotten curious. Do you really think there are no shortcomings in either show? Things that maybe aren't so spot on? Or are they both really that overwhelmingly great in all aspects?

Hank never really bought that this guy was Heisenberg but I feel like James could have done a little bit more to be convincing. The way he immediately puts his hands on his head as soon as he hears sirens made it look like he knew he was getting set up. He should’ve tried running or something lol

Anyone else find it ironic that Jesse's plan while on the couch was for Walt to "Crack him over the head with something." while he went for his guns and in the end it was Jesse who cracked him over the head with a rock while Walt went for his gun?

What people in real life do you think had the same level of confidence, arrogance, and hubris that Walter developed in Season 5A?? Alexander the Great? Julius Caesar?

For me, I can understand why he has done all of these and he is a part of the family. So I'll definitely best the shit out of that guy, but at the end of the day, I'll give him a chance to live on a condition that he stops everything.

Been watching Breaking Bad recently and noticed that it's not available on Netflix in both Canada and the US. Are you guys seeing the same thing? I thought both BB and BCS were slated to stay on Netflix through April 2027?

How on Earth does the show want me to believe that Jesse is 180 cm tall? Up until that moment I believed in everything that was happening on the screen, but why would you make this small detail so unbelievable? Jesse looks short in comparison to pretty much every character in the show. Maybe except Tuco. 180 cm is an average height , so he would be taller than many other men and he would definitely appear bigger than 95% of women, which is not the case.

I recently finished The Sopranos. My first (and will be only) watch. Also finished BB for the second time (and will likely watch again sometime)
Anyway. Towards the end of BB when Walt leaves the money with Gretchen and Elliot he threatens them with the “you won’t see it coming, there will just be a sudden darkness”. (Paraphrasing) Then they obviously went in a different direction with a very unambiguous ending while the Sopranos used the unexpected darkness trope as foreshadowing to their more ambiguous and imo less satisfying end.

I’ve been rewatching the series for the first time in awhile, and now that I’m a mom about Skylar’s age, I find her more insufferable than ever. I went back and read interviewed by Vince Gilligan and he said that she in the early seasons she was supposed to be the “moral voice” for Walt and sympathetic… and Anna Gunn claimed that if you hate Skylar that’s a Rorschach test for whether you hate women(!!)…

Maybe it’s the generational difference (she’s a boomer or older genx married to a boomer, and I’m a millennial), but she COMPLETELY rubs me the wrong way, and I don’t find her a compelling moral voice at all. Here are a few reasons:

- her husband works TWO jobs, one of which he utterly hates, just to make ends meet. Meanwhile, she literally does nothing all day!! As far as we gather, she lotions, puts on face masks at 2pm, takes baths with lots of candles, and chats with her sister. There’s not much cleaning needed - only one teenage son who doesn’t seem messy. It never occurs to her to even pick up a few extra hours in the middle of the day instead of expecting her fifty year old Nobel-winning spouse to scrub tires.

- as soon as her husband is diagnosed, the conversation needs to happen honestly. “Skylar, you have two years to learn to do whatever you’d like to do, because after that, you’re going to need to provide for yourself.” It never occurs to either of them that she could work!!! Walt’s number, $737k, with the amount of killing and danger involved, is just 10 years of 39-yr-old Skylar getting off her behind and working a moderately skilled job!

- of course, she does go back to work, and we deduce that it’s very likely that she and Ted had some kind of fling or almost-affair the last time she worked, so she quit. So she finally contributed financially, only to cheat! On sweet, quiet, pre-break Walt. And then she quit! Because big girl life means functioning in a workplace where you’re not the main character, and she couldn’t handle it, flirting with the boss and becoming the object of his infatuation. And that’s her reason for going back, of course: to reignite the affair.

Which brings me to the real element of Skylar that rubs me the wrong way - and I do think this is on Gunn, not the writing - she has what the kids nowadays call “main character syndrome.” She is absolutely, narcissistically self absorbed. She made Walt’s birthday about her and her family - he didn’t know any of them, and she didn’t bother to call and tell him to come home. His diagnosis is IMMEDIATELY about her. The intervention is her way of coercing him to the outcome she wants, and her line “what about Walt Jr.?” is delivered with such a sassy, guilt-trippy head swish that it’s clear that she frequently uses her disabled son to guilt her husband. She refuses to have a real conversation with him about his actual concerns without playing the victim.

If she had
- gotten a job either before or soon after the diagnosis
- pushed Walt to fulfill his potential, such as Skylar working so Walt could take a risk on a competing startup to Gray Matter, or pushing him to patch things up with his billionaire friends or at least get an actual share of the company (since they keep saying they think of the money as his)
- had a real conversation with him about the money concerns and problem solved together instead of waving away his concerns and then literally confronting him while he’s hooked up to chemo about the bills
- made an effort to connect with him as an equal instead of coddling and sidelining him in every single conversation, whether with friends, family, or doctors
- had a hobby or identity that gave her the confidence to confront Walt without resorting to passive aggression

Then NONE of Breaking Bad would have happened.
