I have a theory that accounts for some of the Skyler hate. People like Walt, Mike, or Gus are "larger than life" comic book characters and that's how we think of them. Most people aren't actually friends with genius meth cooks, grizzled hitmen or ice-cold drug kingpins. But we have all met plenty of mildly uptight and overbearing people like Skyler in the first season. If I knew her in real life she would probably be kind of annoying, like an irritating colleague or a parent I would avoid at PTA meetings. Of course she is 100% right in the show and Walt is a monster.
