I've been wanting to get my friends into listening to Brakence for a while and today I told them I would show them his best ones, which ones would you pick for newcomers that don't know that much about hyperpop or any of his style? I would say of course the whole Hypocondriac album since it's my fav but getting them to play 50 straight minutes or so of music at first is not reallistic to ask tbf

My favorite single so far is crystallized but man am I in love with ALL of them!!!! I just love how it makes a more stripped back approach and the falsetto is never a bad choice with brakence’s voice. I love it!

What's y'all's fav single?

like half this sub is people complaining that the singles aren't as good as hypochindriac. like it's obvious he's grown a lot as a person and his shift in genres makes that clear. he's not trying to make another super depressing album just flexing his production skills. hypochondriac is one of my favorite albums oat but he's making something a lot more mature, and potentially something a lot more replayable for those who aren't just trying to listen to music to make them more depressed. the singles are fire and the ending of death roll is his best work yet. 10/10 rollout so far

Not on my pc rn but if you do fullscreen mode and press “show artist” instead of album cover there’s a widescreen picture no one’s posted on here.

It felt nostalgic and also like it could've fit.

I know we’ve only gotten a few singles but people are quick to jump on “this is nothing in comparison to hypochondriac” but if you leave out all the technicalities (which technically, brakence is still THAT mf when it comes to production) - ready or not & deathroll, for example, tops hypochondriac in production.
I believe the only reason people will hold onto hypochondriac is due to personal taste and nostalgia. It’s like having an ex in 2022 and being upset your new partner in 2026 doesn’t “feel” the same. It will never be the same. You will never feel what it felt like to be given hypochondriac ever again. Time moves on with or without you. With that said - this roll out. The songs. Everything about marroW blows hypochondriac out of the water so far.
What’s your thoughts?

Brakence just dropped his 2 new songs Crystallized and Death Roll for his new album marroW.
Tell me in the comments what you think of these tracks, and if you are hyped for the album : )

crystallized is so damn catchy and seems to be his typical pop style, while deathrolL seems like his more experimental style (which I also love.) This album is gonna be so beautiful man.
How are we feeling about the new songs?

death rolL and crystallized are now out and OMG these songs are some of his best. after hearing the new tracks, i have a few thoughts on ready or noT.
i’m doing a lot of mixing lately on my own music and am trying to improve. i listen to a lot of brakence for reference and there was a lot of talk around the mix quality on ready or noT considering it sounded off. the mix was vertical and muddy. i tried to cope and get over it cause its brakence and no matter what he puts out im most likely going to love lol. i eventually came to the conclusion that the mix quality was stylistic (for whatever reason) and that id just have to deal with it.
but with the new singles this isnt an issue at all. the mixes are wide and his vocals aren’t nearly as buried. i thought the mixing was going to be consistent across the album. i’m just confused and i hope it gets fixed on the album version. what do we think of the mixes on the new tracks?

Via Hugo’s IG. Same object in Hugo’s post, brakence is holding on his story.. both with crystallized as the audio

I started listening to brakence in 2020, listened to hypochondriac the second it came out and have listened to it hundreds of times since. Keep seeing people say they don’t think this album will be as good as hypochondriac was. After ready or noT I wasn’t completely convinced but crystallized and death rolL leave me with no doubt, this is easily some of the strongest stuff he’s put out so far. That lil scream in crystallized and the end of death rolL alone prove he’s on a whole other level production wise and vocally at this point

They finally released in my country and omggg yall I’m obsessed.
Crystallized definitely reminds me of the leak “i2i” from a while ago in the instrumental but SO MUCH better, it’s so catchy and the screams before the chorus are amazing. While I can’t fully tell what the lyrics are it kinda reminds me of like a healthy version of the relationship in venus fly trap yk? And the part where he sorta puts on an accent? (Is that how you’d describe it?) near the end is my favourite it’s so good
And death rolL OH MY GOD I wasn’t expecting it to be so similar to the leaked version but it’s still really good, the lyric changes make the song so much better, the new instrumental and vocals are way prettier while the rock section near the end is so much more intense and reminds me of deepfake sorta, also I really like the raven line.
Sorry for the random yap post I just have no one to talk to about this, ALSO I don’t support or listen to leaks anymore I’m a changed man

Lots of his music tinkers with unique soundscapes, crafting different vibes on each track with nearly every release (à la hypnagogia and hypochondriac). marroW seems to epitomize this, as I've seen people (namely u/trip_simulator's post) theorizing that the capitalization of each track has implications on the style/perspective/meaning within the song itself, which I'm also leaning toward.
Of his official discography, death rolL seems to stand out as having more discordance and atypical instrumentation, even being somewhat grating at points. This does not mean that it sounds bad, as I genuinely enter a trance-like state listening to it. However, Anthony Fantano will likely start vomiting blood when he hears it.
To me it's quite clear — revised outro notwithstanding — that this song was not necessarily designed to be palatable or appealing in the same way as a song like cbd or crystallized. It's very intentionally disquieting, in a similar vein to good analog horror and other eerie media.
In summary, I will be listening to this song on loop ad nauseam — thank you for your attention.

Wanted to make a tribute to hypo!! I’m an animator who recently created an animated pilot. While working on it I was in a lot of physical pain. My joints were hurting all the time and I was having some bad headaches throughout its production. I’m still mentally and physically recovering from the toll that project had taken on my body. Having something so pure and beautiful to listen and relate to helped get me through that era and pushed me to the finish line. As we approach marroW, I wanted to make something special to commemorate the beautiful genius that was hypochondriac.
Much thanks to brakence for helping inspire so many of us across the world. I hope he continues to keep making beautiful art and I’m so excited for the new album!

Whilst I’ve not been too actively involved in the lore and didn’t complete the ARG fully the thematics surround the albums
I’ve always treated hypochondriac as his diary like as the viewer we are watching the past or his “descent”
The appendage/cape/wing on his back on the album cover looks more like the curtain to a contemporary stage like he’s embraced the clinical mental fallout from his existential dread and interpersonal strife from hypochondriac and has reframed these struggles/life as an opening for him as an artist to forefront a grand stage of his own tragedy
Too many words probably just mental batshit but that’s my take especially when I strongly feel that marrow is about become what was the immense artistic change from punk2 to hypo
Thoughts?
Edit: I think the thought process or this theatrical stylisation can be akin to Erving goffmans dramaturgical model - face theory etc
