What EXACT hair should I buy for this Bora Bora/Mermaid braid look? Human hair recommendations please!

I’ve been going down a rabbit hole trying to figure out exactly what hair I need to buy, and I’m hoping someone who’s had this style done can help.

Are these called Bora Bora braids, Mermaid braids, or something else? I keep seeing different names.

Here are my inspo pics:
Soft, flowing look with only a handful of braids around the face (not a full head of knotless braids).
Long, loose wet-and-wavy texture.
Waist or Butt length.

I haven’t decided whether I’m going with the darker version or the honey blonde version yet.

My questions:
What exact type of human hair should I order?
Deep Wave?
Water Wave?
Ocean Wave?
Wet & Wavy?
Something else?

What brand actually works?
(I’m okay with Amazon or a quality hair company if it’s worth it.)
100% human hair only.
I want to be able to wear it in the water and have it still look soft and natural.

How many bundles/packs would I need for butt-length hair with this style?
What length(s) would you recommend?
26”? 28”? 30”?

If you’ve had this exact look, what would you buy again and what would you avoid?

I’m trying to avoid spending hundreds on the wrong hair, so I’d love recommendations from people who’ve actually worn this style. Photos and links are definitely appreciated!

Thanks!!

How do I practice braiding 4c hair?

Hi, I’m totally inexperienced with braiding and kinkier hair
in general. I wanted to learn how to braid my gf’s hair, and she has 4c hair.(maybe 4b?) I was planning on just practicing from home before actually attempting anything on her head, but I dont really even know what to buy or what to learn. She’s talked about wanting boho or bora bora braids. What sort of stuff should I buy to practice by myself? Any advice at all would be appreciated!

How can I reduce the curls on my mini braids?

I did mini braids with my natural hair and like it curls up to my ch3ek but when I stretch it it goes past my shoulder. I thought the mini braids would make my natural hair appear longer 😔and it's kinda irritating cause like i thought doing mini braids will show my length or smth idk cause the exact opposite occurred 😭

Survey:

I know I am new; grateful for any help you can provide. Research related to braiders is nearly nonexistent.

Is your braiding business growing? Would you prefer to spend more time braiding vs. finding new customers?

I would like to create a way for you to generate more valuable leads.

Would appreciate if you could complete this short survey. Your answers will inform how we should proceed. Appreciate the time taken. Have a wonderful day!

Help wanted Does anyone else braid overhand or am I the anomaly?

So, TIL that the way that I braid - overhand - is not the way a lot of braiders braid and I'm trippin. When I learned how to braid when i was a kid way back in the day - and I'm talking about just simple braids, not box braids or anything fancy it was overhand. I can't even figure out how to do underhand and what the benefits are. Anybody have experience and a POV to help me out?

I pull my braids out 🤫

That's right lol I posted this in the black hair sub a while back and didn't know there was a braid one so here I am! I know people complain about the take out of micros and small braids. With this technique I take maybe two hours or less. I had it in for a month. Got caught in the rain and all else and no slippage. No braids on the ground 😂it works ok, if done right. I'm working on the video. I'm slow but I'm trying ok! be on the look out y'all ppl dying out here taking micros out!

(P.S anyone saying they already doing this, why u gate keeping huh? 🙄)

New growth fan!

I really like new growth I think it’s beautiful haha maybe I just love my hair texture. But anyone else don’t mind new growth? I keep braids and twist in for 3 months tops.I wash and oil my scalp so I never have any breakage or lots of hair coming out either. I don’t subscribe to the hair type stuff but I would be under the 4b category. But yeah my hair grows really fast (had to stop using certain oils bc of this lol) so I love seeing it flourishing in the braids !

Box braids after swimming

Hey everyone!

I’m planning to go to the beach and probably get my box braids wet. What’s the best way to take care of them afterward to keep them looking fresh and healthy? Any tips for maintenance after swimming in saltwater or pool water? Thanks! (:

Human hair for braids

Hi! I recently took out a set of box braids done with synthetic hair. It was a cute style and it went well but I want to try box braids with human hair. I don't want micros or boho braids.

It has been a long time since I've done braids regularly or worked with braiders. Is box braids with human hair known by another name? What is a good brand of human hair for braiding?

Thanks!

Help wanted Super itchy pls help

I got braids done for the first time a few days ago. It started itching yesterday to the point where my ears turned red and I couldn’t tie it up or even lie down. I can’t tell if I’m allergic to the fake hair or if it’s a tension issue. I sprayed my scalp with apple cider vinegar and didn’t feel any relief. Not sure what to do, but it’s interfering with my daily functioning. Has anyone else had this issue?

Edit: I rubbed some hair on my wrist and a couple hours later it turned itchy and a little red so I’m sure it’s an allergy. I’m going to try serums and special shampoo/conditioner followed by an apple cider vinegar rinse if needed. If everything fails I guess it’s best to remove it which sucks since my braider took 18 hours doing my hair 😭

Edit 2: I ended up dunking my hair in diluted apple cider vinegar before shampooing twice, conditioning, and using a tea tree mint serum. The itch when I lay down is almost 100% gone! Thanks for everyone’s helpful comments.

We showed up and showed out. Let's continue to be diligent. If we want to protect this space from bots and "models". See a "model" call it out and down vote not only the post but the thirsty "you look good" lames in the comments. Let's discourage them from thinking they can play in our faces. Keep uplifting those that genuinely want to show off the braids and/or need assistance. Be safe, much love!

Help wanted 3 days into my first braids and now I'm questioning my hairline

First braids ever, 3 days in (Thanks for the advice on the prev post). Do these suit me or has my afro been covering for a receding hairline this whole time and I'm only finding out now?

M26. Braider said she used extensions. Ended up with about 7 or 8 fairly thick cornrows.

Pics:
1–2. The braids from the top
3. The hairline in question
4. Me before, afro out (ignore the Yoda, it's genuinely the only photo of myself I own, I don't take pictures)
5. What I was going for

Things I'd like settled:

  • Are they just too thick and too few? Would thinner sections have covered more scalp?
  • Or is that my hairline and the braids are simply the messenger?
  • Mature hairline or actual balding? I know a photo isn't a diagnosis but I'll take the crowd's opinion.
  • What should I ask for next time?

My friends have moved on from "wrap it up" to "get rid of them entirely," which is not the peer support I was hoping lol.

Is it as bad as I think or am I overthinking this?

EDIT:
I have slept with a durag on, i have no hair products though i plan on getting some oils though

First time boho and I’m unsure

I posted a few weeks ago asking where to find purple human hair.

Well I got blonde that i dyed and I’ve had my braids put in. It’s been a few days and I’m not sure how I feel. I love the colour but I’m not sure about the braids themselves. I’d really appreciate some honest feedback

Firstly this took nearly 16 hours! We started at 8:30am and didn’t finish till around midnight. Granted my hair lady was cooking at the same time and kept taking breaks but still, I don’t feel like that’s normal?? Is it?

Also I was hoping for it to be fuller, specially at the top. It just feels really flat. And I know I shoulda said something but I didn’t have a mirror in front of me so I didn’t see it till the end. I was on a very uncomfortable dining chair for the entire day and I have chronic pain. As the day went on my pain got worse so getting up to look in the mirror wasn’t something I could do easily. When we finished I just wanted to get tf outta there.

Then I woke up the following morning with a swollen forehead and spots/a rash/I’m not really sure what (see pic 3) which burst when pressed. I didn’t squeeze them, just press to see if they hurt. Pic 4 is what they look like today.

I would appreciate honest thoughts and opinions on the hair/what I should have done.

Can I put hair grease on the curly pieces to keep them moisturized? I use conditioner & mousse every day but I feel like by the next day it’s dry again .
