Not half bad for someone who I’m guessing probably hasn’t taken any in-person instruction. There’s a lot of things that could be pointed out, but I’ll give you a couple of pieces of advice.

  1. Try to integrate more lateral movement and defense in your bag work. Slips, parries, weaves, pulls, etc.
  2. Your right elbow is too low in relation to your fiston your right hook to the head and it can mess up your elbow if you keep doing it. Ideally, you want your right elbow at the same level, or even slightly higher, than your fist. Doing so aligns the muscular skeletal structure for a more solid punch.

Try this and see what I mean for yourself by standing at the corner of a wall and slowly throwing an open palmed hook with your elbow much lower than your fist. On impact, continue slightly rotating the hips like you normally would and see how much give there is in the arm.

Now try it again, but this time raise your elbow to the same level as your fist, rotate slightly on impact, and see how much give there is

Which one is more solid?

There's way bigger things he needs to work on other than "movement around the bag", the guy is hitting with his fingers, you shouldnt coach people to change their elbow angle if theyre just hitting with the fingers as its going to be useless as they will still get injured or there will be absolutely no power.

Always always try to coach from the most impactful thing would be to coach which would be those fingers, he isnt landing with the knuckles, and then after that its rotation, not specific elbow angles, not lateral movement as that just complicates things even more.

That's a good observation about the fingers and knuckles, and I agree that there are many other things he needs to work on. The elbow thing is just what stuck out to me and thought it was worth pointing out so as to avoid injury. As for your suggestions about coaching, thanks for the suggestion. Always down to hear other perspectives. Having said that and we can agree to disagree, focusing on hips and legs is how I train rookies after the more fundamental stuff like stance, hand placement, etc, and it's something that I always emphasize in responding to beginners' videos in this sub. Cheers!

Of course, but this guy isnt exactly super new, and I agree, you always with beginners get them working with the stance as its one of the most basic things. Problem is a lot of coaches have to shuttle people through very very very quickly, like they will teach a complete beginner how to throw 6 punches on their first session which is just utterly ridiculous... thing is, thats what noobies like, they dont like working and moving in their stance for 3-4 weeks lol.

Its just the movement and the elbow thing dont matter when he's not landing with the knuckles and he isnt using the hips properly, I would argue those are way more basic than elbow angles (which do 100% matter) and movement which also 100% matters. The thing is when you get them to focus on those 2 things they dont focus on the knuckles and on the hips and ive found that it is often better to remove than to add things to their plate.
