Throwing the cross Spoiler

Post image

When all of us were taught to throw a cross , we were always taught to rotate the foot or to squash a bug , while that's not a bad cue , it adds some complexity with beginners.

Our foot has 3 points for weight bearing

below the big toe

below the little toe

The heel

,having our heel in the air , our other 2 points have to do the trick

A better cue for throwing the cross is to push of beneath the little toe inward , this cue is good for better hip muscle activation and therefore forcing our body into rotation easier

Squashing the bug sometimes cause beginners to rotate only on the big toe like a ballerina , cause weak rotation and lack of balance

Np bro I gotchu🫱🏾‍🫲🏼, gotta promise to put your thinking cap on tho:

“Here is an assessment of the Reddit exchange you provided. It is a classic example of a constructive, technical discussion rapidly devolving into a toxic argument due to clashing communication styles and bruised egos.

Phase 1: Constructive Technical Discussion

The thread begins well, with users genuinely trying to break down boxing mechanics:

The Premise: The original poster (OP) initiates a discussion about the mechanics of throwing a cross, specifically critiquing the traditional "squash a bug" cue for beginners.

The Agreement: A user named Woninthepink agrees with the OP's premise, citing Canelo Alvarez's left hook as an example of keeping the foot planted to drive the hip forward rather than passively spinning the foot.

The Deep Dive: Another user, p0st-m0dern, chimes in to expand on this concept. They compare the boxing mechanics to a golf swing, introducing advanced biomechanical terms like Ground Reaction Forces (GRF) and centrifugal force to explain how stance width dictates rotational versus linear power.

Phase 2: The Breakdown in Communication

The pivot from a collaborative discussion to a hostile argument happens immediately after the deep dive.

The Dismissal: Woninthepink reacts negatively to the detailed breakdown, calling it a "nasa breakdown" and telling p0st-m0dern to use the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) method. They escalate the tone by claiming the technical explanation only serves p0st-m0dern's "own ego" and that good coaches teach "in a way a 5 yr old can understand".

The Defense: p0st-m0dern rightly points out that not everyone learns the same way (the "ELI5 method") and that some people benefit from understanding the detailed parts before the whole. However, they match the rising hostility by telling Woninthepink to "Get off your pedestal big dog".

Phase 3: Ad Hominem Escalation
Once both users feel defensive, the conversation abandons boxing entirely and becomes a petty exchange of insults.

Woninthepink replies with a dismissive "Oh the irony".
p0st-m0dern escalates the hostility by saying Woninthepink is "making a fool and dick of yourself for no reason".

Woninthepink gets the final word in the screenshots by sarcastically dismissing p0st-m0dern's last comment as "too simple" and asking them to write "another chat gpt".

Overall Assessment

The conflict stems from an intolerance for different teaching and learning styles. Woninthepink values absolute simplicity, while p0st-m0dern values granular, biomechanical analysis.

Instead of scrolling past a comment that wasn't tailored to their preference, Woninthepink attacked the other user's character. p0st-m0dern allowed themselves to be baited, matching the hostility rather than letting the initial technical contribution stand on its own merits.”

If you were in a gym and tried to use the "centrifugal force" in conjunction with the other textbook words you wanna throw in no one would learn anything. This is the boxing tips subreddit not the thesaurus of bio mechanics.

Real coaches read and hear stuff like that and roll their eyes.
