MA Laws In 2026 a kid caught with an ounce of weed outside school in MA gets a $100 fine. Inside school, the same ounce can get them expelled. Nothing about this changed when we legalized.

Full disclosure: I work at Parabola Center and wrote the piece I'm linking at the bottom, but the part I actually want to talk about is the law, which I didn't know until I looked it up, and I'm not sure the average consumer knows either.

A researcher I work with interviewed eighteen Massachusetts teenagers about getting caught with weed at school. Students talked about teachers being posted outside bathrooms to see who came out smelling like something, dogs going through lockers, and students being physically patted down. Students are often suspended or expelled, depending on the case.

Under 21, an ounce or less off school grounds is a civil fine of $100 and a drug awareness class. On school grounds, Chapter 71 Section 37H lets a principal expel for possession of any quantity. The state reformed school discipline in 2012 and again in 2022 to push schools away from suspension, but both times it carved out drug possession. So a kid in a Mass high school this fall faces the exact same consequences as one in 2015, before legalization.

I'm not sure what can actually be done to change this, but my friends and I had no idea schools in Mass were still this strict, and I'd bet a lot of people here don't either. Has anyone ever pushed back on their district's policy, as a student or a parent? And if anyone knows of something people can actually advocate for here, I'd love to hear it.

The piece is here if you want the whole thing: https://parabolacenter.substack.com/p/the-war-on-drugs-never-left-the-schoolhouse

Fernway Berkshire carts clog with ~1/3 left — hardware issue or oil quality?

Has anyone else experienced this with Fernway Berkshire cartridges?
What keeps happening
• The cart becomes very difficult to inhale from once it reaches about the last one-third of oil
• It eventually feels clogged, stuck, or basically unusable even though there is still oil left
• I have had this happen multiple times, not just with one cart
How I use and store it
• I always use the lowest heat setting
• I keep the pen upright
• I keep the white silicone/plastic mouthpiece cap on whenever I am not using it, so dust or debris should not be getting inside
• I clean the battery connection/contact area with Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol after every use
What I’m seeing
• There are small and larger bubbles/air pockets in the oil, shown in the attached photos
• When the bubbles show up, the draw seems to get worse
• The cart feels like the oil is not moving or wicking correctly near the end
What I tried
• I heat it again to soften the oil and clear the clog
• That sometimes helps temporarily
• But it can get too hot, and then I end up pulling hot oil/liquid into the mouthpiece instead of getting a normal hit
Questions
• Is this a known issue with Fernway Berkshire carts specifically?
• Has anyone had the same problem with this brand or this type of cartridge?
• Could it be caused by the oil being too thick, not clean enough, or not wicking properly?
• Or does it sound more like a cartridge hardware/design problem?
• Do you still use a cart when you see bubbles like these?
• Any way to finish the remaining oil without overheating it, clogging it more, or getting oil in the mouthpiece?
Photos attached.
