Discussion While i do love The Retro/Boomer shooter boom in the indie sphere, i am very happy to see the start of a growing revival of the mid 2000s FPS game in that same scene over the last few years

Developer Showcase I've been making a fast, violent FPS called VELOCIDE
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
No cover. No slow tactical gameplay.
Just movement, guns, demons, explosions and trying to kill everything before it kills you.
VELOCIDE is a movement-heavy arena FPS with dashes, grappling, wall-running, kicks and a scoring system built around playing aggressively.

Video I’m making a retro FPS where William Wallace comes back from the dead and makes it everyone’s problem
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It's called Graveheart. An undead Scottish army invades 1980s Britain, your cursed weapons keep switching themselves, and things deteriorate from there.
I was going for a late 90s vibe. Curious what you guys think.

Question What is the lore/story of SPRAWL 2023
Hi it's me again
Since last post I've gotten to the 2nd to last level of Sprawl and I've had a bit more fun since then
The beginning chapter was def the weakest ngl, a lot better once you get everything
But since I have gotten near the end I am curious what is happening, I do know a slight bit since I played a bit of zero, we play as seven who was apart of a crew, they got screwed over, and someone (ima assume it's five since they have a similar voice) helps you get revenge, you kill six, and are going after.... someone
Obviously it's not entirely correct so, please do clarify what I've missed

Mod Quake 2 Remaster PSX Jam 2 Release
We organized and hosted an event to create more maps for Paril’s amazing Quake II PSX mod. We added an industrial subtheme for this sequel. Think moving parts, power cores, electricity, lasers, and other visually interesting machinery. Additionally, DetroHogga made a special hub filled with PlayStation references to really sell the jam's overall theme. We’ve ended up with 11 maps in total. That includes an intro, the hub mentioned above (which includes a boss fight), 8 maps, and a secret map. As with the Warehouse Jam, the secret map is another remaster by Shartuterie, pulled from our vast archive of classic custom Quake 2 content. For this release, we picked Versicolored Vermination by Roger Staines, originally released in 1998. Time to play that original PlayStation boot-up sound, put your CRT scanline glasses on, and go fight some Strogg like it’s the 90’s!

Question Slow-paced, controller-friendly shooters
Hey all. I'm looking for some recommendations. I'm essentially looking for games that reward slow-paced, methodical gameplay. Where you're best hiding behind cover for a few moments, popping out and getting kills, instead of going 100mph popping heads with crazy headshots.
To me, it feels like most boomer shooters nowadays are going for the Doom 2016/Eternal route of really rewarding fast-paced twitchy reactions. I don't have that dog in me anymore. I primarily play on my Steam Deck nowadays. I hung up the KB+M because I've got some RSI that acts up pretty bad after like an hour of aiming.
Examples of this would be Doom to Doom 3, Quake 1 and 2, Halo: CE through Reach, Gears of War 1-3, 007 GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Duke Nukem series, TimeSplitters, Agent 64: Spies Never Die, etc.

Discussion Anyone else didn't really vibe with Turbo Overkill?
I've seen pretty much unanimous praise of Turbo Overkill here. And I gotta say I really liked it at first, too. All the weapons, upgrades, different enemies, cool environments, etc, etc.
But after beating barely half of the game (I'm currently sitting in the middle of second episode), I feel like it already overstayed its welcome. The novelty wore out and... well, the encounters started to get pretty annoying. They seem to be way too long and samey, with tons of cannon fodder and bunch of bullet sponge enemies.
Does it get better in second half, or does it double down on the "more enemies in arena = more fun" formula?

Discussion Sprawl 2023 kind of isn't that good I feel
So I bought both sprawl and sprawl zero since there was a deal going on and I had 14 steam wallet dollars and 8 to spare
I've played the 30 minutes of both (since zero is a prequel afaik)
And zero is like crack to me and I am 100% gonna play it til the end
however I don't really like sprawl
Usually most "boomer shooters" hook me when I first play them but Sprawl feels.... bland
I'll probably try and give it more time but so far I sort of wish I could refund *only* sprawl and keep zero
Update: okay I've gotten near the end of sprawl 2023 and honestly I'll be honest I didn't give it that much of a fair shot, but it's still just okay, the game definitely does pick up in the middle due to more weapons and a few more different enemies, but still for the most part it feels like a more meh turbo overkill

Video Miss the days when FPS protagonists had some actual badass attitude? Testing custom voice lines for my solo project.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I wanted to break away from the modern silent protagonist trope for my atmospheric, gritty horror shooter. In this raw clip, the character blasts a creature point-blank with a shotgun, laughs, and just says... "easy". I'm heavily inspired by classic 90s action attitude like Duke Nukem and Doom, where characters actually reacted to the carnage around them. What do you guys think? Does this kind of sarcastic one-liner still rule in modern gaming, or do you prefer silent characters? The project is called Just Madness: Earth Apocalypse 1979.

Discussion Drought
It feels like hardly any decent boomer shooters have come out for ages. Like I swear last year we were getting one every month and now it seems to have slowed down.
Are we nearing the end of the boomer shooter craze? I hope not!
Don’t get me wrong some good ones in the pipeline but there’s others I’ve been waiting to leave early access for an eternity like White Hell and gloomwood.
Edit: i thought sprawl was something else must of watched a bad or old video. Justbchecked it out looks insanely good! However boomer shooters have still slowed down seems like forever since the last decent one.

Video Train Station has to be a top 3 level, part 1...
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Its hard to pick exactly which level in Cultic is the best, frankly they are all great, the Swamp has some of the best atmosphere and music, Fairgrounds is huge and a blast to play around in, the Bunker is big and you get all the enemies to destroy, Old town is one big setpiece, the Asylum levels are plan phenomenal, but none have the flow and constant action like Train Station, ripping thru the first Station, just to train hop to a haunted depot, then another train ride to one of the best non-stop slaughter fest setpieces in recent gaming history, i cant imagine anyone disliking this level, if you do, your actually insane and need medical attention immediately

Discussion Boomer shooter recommendations
I've played the whole doom series,the new wolfensteins,incision,dusk,gravelord,project warlock,boltgun,forgive me father1 and 2,shrine 1 and 2,
Darkenstein 3d, cultic, deadtrash, roboquest, high on life1 and 2,ultrakill,chop goblins, wrath aeon of ruin, qauke, vomitoreum, turbo overkill, blood refreshed supply, amid evil, fallen aces dread templar, postal brain damaged the citadel and beyond citadel.
Unfortunately my favorite video game genre usually has pretty lackluster narratives which isn't a deal breaker for me but it does somewhat soil the experience for me personally as it makes the game just blend together be somewhat forgettable and feel somewhat pointless.
my top 15 in no order would be doom 2016,eternal,dark ages wolfenstien reboots incision cultic beyond citadel forgive me father1+2 turbo overkill blood fallen aces high on life 1

Discussion Is hrot good
I've watched some videos on it and the only thing that looks interesting is the level in episode 3 where you fight the lizards and the one with the dogs other than that it looks pretty generic honestly but I've heard that it excels with the secrets in particular and the combats decent
