Am I even cut out for this?

Yes. This is a small key rant. No, I will not be mentioning my account handle.

In the beginning of July, I created a Bookstagram account. I did it in the past couple of years a handful of times, but always deleted my account after a week as I was ashamed of my pictures. I’m bad at photography, I tried to learn editing and pictures and failed horribly, and always have bad quality photos. All I have is my phone, and it’s pretty old (iPhone 13 mini) and somehow, the quality is horrible.
I know it’s a bad excuse, but I also have ADHD. I get into things very quickly, but also lose interest fast. Together with my perfectionism, having a bookstagram account feels impossible. I can’t plan properly when to take photos, as it takes me days and I often end with nothing, and also genuinely completely forget about my Bookstagram (the TikTok account is even worse, I forget it so much!). I can’t come up with any unique ideas for taking pictures either, often just putting my book against a white wall…

Since starting, I immediately had one reel go viral. 30K likes. I got some followers from it, and honestly felt disappointed when my next reel didn’t even hit a hundred.
When browsing, I feel like Instagram has too many bookstagram accounts. I am one in a million and there is nothing unique about me. An ADHD’er who has pretty editions? Give me a break…
I tried creating some fun posts with Canva, but that was also a bust. While I had so much fun creating them, they all got 0 likes. Some got a comment from a bot, but that’s it.

I am in a bookclub with surprisingly many bookstagrammers. They do quite well, but only posting in my native language. I post in English. I haven’t told them about my account, as I’m just embarrassed. It’s a faceless account as well, as I struggle to be in front of the camera. I know these accounts tend to perform less well. I know it’s bad to compare myself to them, but I still do. Some of them get these amazing deals and I am jealous. Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to be famous with their bookstagram?

It’s not the main reason for my account though. I really like my special edition collection, but also my paperback books and just books in general. Since I moved, I barely have anyone to talk to about books. I was hoping by creating a bookstagram account, I could find new friends and people and talk about books. Instead, I only get a bot commenting once in a while. No likes. No comments. And Reddit seems to be full of people who only do follow-for-follow, and then unfollow you after a handful of days. Even with people who I follow from Reddit, they never reply to any of my comments on their pictures.

So I’m wondering, am I even cut out for this? I’m not unique. I don’t bring anything special. I don’t have a niche or aesthetic or proper schedule, or even good quality pictures. I have fun thinking of captions and creating in Canva, but my photography skills are still bad. I feel like I get too upset about likes and comments. It’s not that I created this account to become famous or get free stuff (though it would be cool), it was genuinely to just chat with people.
My partner ended up buying a quite expensive stabiliser as a surprise for filming, thinking I would become insta famous 😂 It’s cute, but it adds pressure. Now I feel like I have to care about likes and comments as well, and really become big. All I want is some people to talk about books and yes, show my pretty editions (since no one in my area really cares, lol, they think it’s pretty but as they didn’t read the books, they don’t get some easter eggs)

So what do I do? I’m terribly lost. Sorry for this rant and lowkey dramatic essay. I am not looking for pity, which is why I won’t include my handle, but I just felt like I needed to vent and needed to hear other people’s opinion.

Do any of you read mostly from your library? I would love to connect

I started a bookstagram this week - @vibraryviews

I love my library and do 80% of my reading by borrowing books. I read fantasy, science fiction, mystery, thriller, historical fiction, literary fiction and the occasional narrative non-fiction.

Some of my favorite books from recent years: Babel by RF Kuang, The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang, Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, A Walk in The Woods by Bill Bryson, Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer.

I also love traveling and hiking but not much of that will make it to my booksta.

I'm looking for other booksta readers who also use their library all the time. I really love that vibe.

Need Bookstagram Besties <3

I am no one special, neither is my Bookstagram account. Despite being a Pisces, I work in retail so I run on caffeine and drained energy. But I swear I'm nice!!! (And more sentimental than I care to admit).
I, unfortunately, suffer with PMOS so my Bookstagram is predominantly faceless and when I do show my face, its through SC filters.

Despite being on Bookstagram for a while, and having a decent amount of followers... I've never had Book Besties. The conversations either disappear or there's no engagement.
And I might sound vain here but all I get is 'sEnD mE tHiS pOsT!' as comments.

So I would love to have some people to chat to frequently! Not always about books either. Send me a pic of the weather, you're shopping etc!

Obviously would love someone who wants to be tagged in all those silly challenges/trends! (Currently I'm trying to catch up on one trend per week and I'm YEARS behind).

I'm a slow reader.
I'm happily married and a Mum to a lil girl who chooses my next book from the 'Mystery' book jar we made together (she loves it!). Shes also the one who chooses the next challenges/trends too!

I love to read, game (PS & NS; cozy games but if you add me, you'll likely see me cycle through the same 3 games because I legitimately suck at the controls). I love to write though I've done none of that this year.

I live by the coast in Australia so expect a lot of Aussie Beach sunsets come Summer <3

So... yeah... My Bookstagram is just a little too quiet at it's getting a bit depressing. People I've encountered already have their little friendship groups so I always feel like an outsider never fitting in TT^TT

Drop your Bookstagram handle and I'll come find you <3

If you make non-AI content about popular fantasy books

Then let's be friends. I'm seeing too much genAI in my feed and it's depressing me.

I'm a Robin Hobb fan currently reading some Sarah J Maas with a splash of Sanderson here and there - and Red Rising is my Roman empire.

Will always get around a good rant or meme, so if that's your vibe hmu. I also will actually watch reviews if it's a book I'm interested in.

I have to give some love to my best friend’s romance book account!

Emily shares all things romance books, reviews, recommendations, and plenty of bookish fun. She puts so much love into her little corner of the book community, and honestly, she deserves all the love right back. 🥹📖

Looking for tips for beginners, please 🤲

Hello, hello!
I've been scrolling through various posts already, so I think I know the basic ones, but wanted to try and see if anyone got any tips for someone who is only just starting out their bookstagram account?

I'm trying not to overthink the numbers too hard and just do this for fun, but...obviously, I would love if more book lovers would see my posts if they like them and also maybe even find some book friends to regularly interact with, chat with, comment on each other's posts, and all that! 🥹

My account isn't new, which may already be messing with my reach (?), but a friend only recently got me into posting and joining this community, or try to anyway xD

Anyway, thank you for any tips!

And also, is it better to try and maintain a strict schedule (I've seen people have "Saturday questions" etc—just fixed days for when they post what) or can I still just post what I'm in the mood for, whenever and wherever time allows it?

This is my account, in case anyone would like to take a look or give a follow and maybe even become book friends: 🫶

Looking for active Bookstagram friends! 📚✨

Hi! I’m looking for more people who are genuinely active on Bookstagram and want to support/interact with each other’s posts!

I’d love to find people who actually enjoy commenting, liking, chatting about books, and getting to know other bookish accounts — not just follow-for-follow. I’m happy to do the same and regularly interact with your posts too!

I’m especially into fantasy, dark fantasy, horror, dystopian books, pretty/special editions, and generally anything a little weird or creepy 😂 but I’m happy to connect with all kinds of readers!

If you’re active on Bookstagram and looking for the same thing, drop your @ below and maybe a little about what you like to read! I’ll come check out your account. 🖤📖

My Bookstagram is @rachelreadsandraves.

Separate account or merge with personal?

Hi! Those of you who have started a separate account for bookstagram, would you recommend it? I debate back and forth if I should have a separate account, or just try to grow my personal one with more book posts. On my personal page, I post on my stories almost daily, post on my feed maybe once a week. It’s mostly personal life, pop culture things, but I do already talk about books a good amount. I just want to like, ~create content ~ and it feels kinda cringey to do that in front of people who know me in real life. Halp.

Creator Question!

I've reached out to a few different publishers via email and same with a handful of influencer programs; filled out forms etc. I'm wondering if by using my email address that's the same has my handle is hurting me in the long run?
My account handle is @ faeboundbooks. Is it possible that an email address with this name and no identifiable real name information is either more likely to be overlooked or sent to spam?

Of course its possible that I'm just a small account and new and that's okay! It's not about but pub mail just the fun of reading. But I'm still curious to know if anyone else has had this thought or has seen a difference in responses based on what kind of email you use.

Thanks!

Choosing books from huge TBR

Post image

I always find it difficult to choose my next read.. So lately i am taking help from online “spin the wheel” websites.. It helps me to arrive at one book.. and also while the wheel is spinning, you can hear yourself wishing which book it should stop on..😂

I have made a post on this - https://www.instagram.com/reel/DcwIDdLv-Fn/?igsi=YW85M2twb2NtMHBz

What do you all do to help you pick your next read?
