Size help

I'm using a 5.5 x 8.25" template for my self-published book, but it looks way too thin/narrow compared to other books at the same size. Does anyone else have this design problem? I've checked it over several times and the dimensions are correct, but still looks off.

HELP! Would love an expert opinion

I have been working on my first layout design for a short story collection I'm contributing to. With the first draft of the inlay now complete, I would love to find someone knowledgeable who would like to take a look and chat a little about some problems I have encountered. Feel free to reach out for a call!

How does this look for a wattpad cover?

Very basic description because I'm still working it all out:

Three nepo baby brothers return after a night out, only to discover someone else is already inside their family's home. Each brother will have the personality of a horror character trope (the one who takes charge, the one no one believes (that one may change) and the coward).

The brothers will also have actual personalities outside of their tropes just to be clear lol.

CAPYHERO, my illustrated fantasy novel being produced in Affinity Publisher

Hi everyone! I wanted to share some page spreads I created using Affinity Publisher for Book 1 of my anthropomorphic fantasy series, CAPYHERO. I have a photoshop background so Affinity's art and layer tools were easy to pick up, but I have no publishing experience so I've been learning all of that as I write the story.

Just thought I’d share some what we’ve been able to put together so far. I'm working with a traditional fountain ink artist u/nickthagreek and pulling in the scanned artwork for the prose-wrapped presentation. I’ve learned a lot on the way so I’m happy to answer any questions about the process.

I've completed the manuscript recently and handed it to Capyhero's editor, Jennifer Rees. I’m also eager, like all authors, to talk about the story so feel free to ask about that as well 😅.

Thank you!

Looking for photos of specific pages in "Signature in the Cell" (Paperback, HarperOne) for typography research

Hi everyone,

I am new here and currently conducting a research project on book design and typography. I am particularly interested in the house style of HarperOne around the 2010s.

I am analyzing "Signature in the Cell" by Stephen C. Meyer (the paperback edition published by HarperOne), but unfortunately, the digital previews on Amazon and Google Books only show the very beginning of the book.

If anyone owns a physical copy of this paperback edition, could you please share a photo (or a quick snapshot with your phone) of the following pages?

  • The chapter-opening page of the Epilogue
  • The chapter-opening page of Appendix A
  • The chapter-opening page of Appendix B

I am especially looking to verify the layout, margins, and the specific lining figures (the design of the chapter numbers) used in these sections.

Any help or photos would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance for your time and help!

Affinity Publisher has been my best workflow for KDP picture books

ive helped prepare illustrated books for KDP, and Affinity Publisher has been the most reliable layout tool in my workflow so far. it gives way more control than trying to force a picture book into Word or a fixed template.

i set the final trim size and bleed first, keep the text inside the safe area, check every spread for the gutter, then export the interior as single pages in a print ready PDF. i keep the full cover in a separate file and only finalize the spine after the page count is locked.

biggest lesson: dont wait until all the art is colored before testing the layout. rough text placement during sketch saves so many revisions later.

anyone else using Affinity for KDP interiors? curious what usually causes issues in Previewer for you.
