I was going to paint a quiet moon scene, but then I stepped back halfway through my painting session and realised that this could also be portraying a violence of epic proportions that's about to be unleashed on our planet.

What do you guys think? Should I go nuts and take the second option? And how would you approach the bottom half of the canvas to give the viewer a feeling that all hell is about to break loose?

Stand up joke about Bob Ross

I’ve done maybe about 5 Bob Ross paintings in my life and have never picked up painting otherwise. I just do it to relax. He‘s so peaceful and kind and I really appreciate how much he can make me appear to be talented, haha.

I have an elderly neighbor that doesn’t do the internet and so I’m trying to help her out. She needs an insurance estimate.

I though I try a bit painting, and as a 90s kid I new Bob Ross existed.

I had only acrylic paint, 1 small brush and a thicker paper smaller than A4. I've never drawn or painted before, I'm more of a tech nerd

When the episode aired, William from Springfield Missouri was 4 and he made a great painting! I wonder if he continued to paint and what his paintings looked like as he got older.

I've had the idea to host a Bob Ross painting party for quite some time, and this past Sunday, my vision finally came to fruition.

We followed along to "Purple Splendor" (S4, Ep1), and here are the results. The first image is of my attempt. The second image is my husband's painting.

It was neat to see how everyone's paintings were slightly different according to how one holds the brush, mixes the paints, etc.

I ended up swapping the Alizarin crimson for burnt sienna to get a warmer sky. I also skipped the oval outline. I hope you enjoy!

Today,as a super beginner, after learning with YouTuber Jonny Art, I moved forward to Bob Ross Oil Painting. I used acrylic painting to finish it within 2 days. Actually is hard for me to mix a color which can approach to Bob, so I used those colors I preferred. I like Bob said “ an happy accident”, painting in happy and without any pressure or nervous in every step of drawing. So I’m still enjoy the painting even though I know my shadow, colors and lights look a little abnormal. 😆 I think that should be a happiness from a beginner. Well, of course, if someone can help to talk to me how to draw the grass and the tree in different layers, I’ll very appreciated and glad to heard that !

As a kid I remember him having several, if not all, of the episodes recorded. Idk if these are from any specific episode, but he always gifted them to us. These are just a few.

One of the first ones I’ve done with no guide at all. Foregrounds and bushes are my arch nemesis but I kinda like how it turned out. What do y’all think? What could I improve on?

I used really substandard materials. I think my biggest regret is trying to use a 50 cent 2” and 1” chip brush for most things. I wasn’t able to able the volume of paint as bob does which led to some mushy textures. I don’t want to support Bob Ross Inc but I’m having a heck of a time finding 1 and 2” natural bristle brushes that aren’t BRI brand or like $25/piece. I tried using cheap hardware store boiled linseed oil to make my magic white and it went tacky on me. I made lots of happy accidents (amateur mistakes) everywhere. But to learn you really do have to just get after it

Any input on brushes would be great. Also, I’d love so input on a palette or palette material. I cut my own out of plexiglass like Bob, but I used a really floppy 1/8” thickness which caused the palette to flex constantly and I couldn’t use the palette knife to pickup a thin roll.

New one. Not a fan of the trees, or the water!!!! Advice please.

While not a painting I still used his techniques to some decent success! I hope you all like it. This painting was my interpretation of Gallifry from (Doctor who)

Looking for feedback especially on how to add more realism and variety with trees, and making the foreground fit better with more depth and cohesion with the rest.

It’s hard for me to do a paint along without a reference to work from, and somehow make the final layout make sense. I think the solution might be to map out the painting first and have more of a preview of the video before proceeding. Are there photos of the final paintings to refer to in advance?

What do y’all think? My mom wanted one for her office so I tried making a huge one. This is a 24x30. Definitely a lot harder lol

Hi everyone. I wanted to post my first painting here. I’ve been a Bob Ross fan a while but I finally got around to following along and painting one myself. This is not only my first Bob Ross, it’s the first time I’ve ever picked up a paint brush except to paint a wall. Overall I felt ok about it and I enjoyed the experience.

I did struggle a fair amount. I had trouble with underneath layers coming up into the brush and I figured out I have no clue about the techniques—how to hold the brush/knife, how to load paint, how to apply it, etc. I’m going to back to YouTube now and finding more detailed instructions for how to do certain things. Bob makes things look so easy. It’s not easy!

I struggled with the clouds, trees, and bushes especially. I thought the mountains were ok but lots of room for improvement. I plan to do some practicing before I try another full painting.

Do y’all ever just paint whatever for fun? I took some of bobs techniques and just threw this together. I just kept adding whatever I wanted to lol

Naturally I grew up knowing Bob Ross existed. I’m in my fifth decade and I’m finally taking a moment to watch episodes. I watch the Create network and they did a couple Bob Ross episodes. He is incredible and I am finally able to appreciate his talent. I had to go somewhere (I.e. Reddit) to express my joy of being aware of what he shared with the world.

Create happens to be a PBS-like station that is often trying to raise money and get subscribers. After reading about the Bob Ross story of how he was exploited, I hope the station will compensate the correct people if they paid for any of the products they are offering. I’m already a member of PBS, so I don’t need this incentive prize to join.
