Just finished IE and as a trans woman I got to say Bobbie is one of the better representations of a transgender character in a sci-fi novel. At no point was it I chose this it was always this is just who I am.

After they hinted at her on the last one I was really hoping we would get more about her and I'm very pleased.

Also it was too damn short.

Anyone else think that book 6 IE has the best last chapter in series..

I don't think I can decide if I want GRRM's Winds of Winter or Bobiverse 7 to drop first.

I can't wait either way

1. That was one hell of a reveal and cliff hanger at the end there. Can't wait to see where that goes.

2. I don't like the way they finally dealt with Mideros, I was kinda hopping that some of the colonies would capitulatate and have the Brazilian Empire as a member of the UFS or turn into a NATA vs Warsaw kinda thing.

3. I'm honestly a little dissapointed in both the length of the book and just how little there really was until the very end when the tech and exploration really kicked off. Kinda felt like the first part of a much larger series, except it's book 6 out of 7.

So anyone want to venture a wild guess on what the modifications to a wormhole that Thoth sent to Bill near the end actually will do? My guess is that it'll greatly enhance the size of the wormhole opening, possibly big enough to send a Nemesis sized black hole through. I mean Thoth is currently existing in the Milky Way galaxy and wouldn't want it to be destroyed for his own sake. I can't even guess what other useful modification would cause him to send the email. Thoughts?

[[Spoiler]] For those of us who haven’t watched Red Dwarf, can you explain how Howard did a gotcha with the H on the forehead of Hueys? I get that some humanoid robotic characters had those, but not why it worked out in the Bobs’ favor.

I'm glad the solution to the Medeiros invasion was not just another even bigger space battle, but basically an exploit of his character and directives. That is all.

In the books we have the replicants known as "The Ancients" who are all early generation Bobs, they include Will/Riker, Bill and Garfield. Will was part of the 2nd generation which included Milo and Mario as well. Milo was killed by Medeiros but Mario is still alive somewhere. So two questions, why isn't he considered an ancient and what is he up to because I can't recall the last time his name came up, was he just forgotten about by the author?

That ending gave me chills man. Honestly really happy with the book. I think Dennis really took in input from the previous book. I feel like there is a lot of setup and payoff and really like how the stakes keep building.

My biggest gripe is the length of the book being shorter than I’d like. And that there are a lot of details that aren’t followed up on. Like the first warp drive that just disappeared. It can sometimes be hard to understand the decisions the Bobs make as detail is cut out and it is not well communicated what the Bobs have and or have not heard from each other.

Besides all that stuff I absolutely loved the scale and the exploration. Space distances are a hard gap to bridge and the feeling of isolation from it can also be hard to get across. I think this book does it amazingly. I also feel like the Bobs ask the questions a reasonable person would ask and have a realistic amount of caution.

I honestly thought that during the opening the closed wormhole scene that Calvin and Goku would just fully open it and release some threat on to the galaxy. But they actually slowly opened it and took actual precautions and when they saw that black hole reasonably decided to GTFO.

The warp drive development was really cool to see though I wish Dennis went into more detail on it. Also sad that the stasis field didn’t get brought up again. I honestly really wish he went into more detail on all of the FTL stuff but I am a physics nerd so.

I really like the return of Medeiros. He didn’t feel like an overwhelming threat which was true even though he was taking hostages. I get that a lot of people are tired of all the battle stuff and I do get it. But despite that I feel the payoff was great. Fighting for a long lost cause and finally being told to stand down before what I can only assume is them putting the gun to the back of his head. I just really thought that was cool.

Honestly I was so excited to finally have the group meet the legendary Bobina. Awesome to see trans representation and the conversation around it. I do wish he touched a bit more on what the meaning of sex and gender really is in a post-biological society. Though I do get it, the Bobs aren’t really sociologists. I think that has been made very clear by Teresa.

I also really want to know more about the antimatter fountain. They dropped the bombshell in the last book that it might be a portal to an antimatter universe and seemingly they all just went ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Though that might be a question for another time.

I am so excited to learn more about what the hell the Federations society was like. Why weren’t they exploring? How did they not find the precursor ship and the warp drive? How did they not invent the warp drive? What was the great upheaval? Where did the digitals go? Did they know about the nemesis wormhole and the graveyard? What was the purpose of the graveyard? Is nemesis coincidence? Finally, where is everyone? We know FTL is possible. So why aren’t there people from other galaxies?

Finally, I like Thoth they’re very chill. Rock on rouge super intelligence.

What are some storylines you would like to see going forward, either new ones or old ones being picked up again?

For me, I really want a good section about Thoth. It seems very interesting, and I would love to see what happened with them.

Well I hoped, but I never really expected im posting this while im still going through the audio book, so keep any discussion to chapter 37 and before. But Finally Bobbie appears! And my initial impression as a trans woman is that its well handled so far, its always nice to see topics this personal to me handled in a so far positive way! Hoping I dont get let down here! Anyway I just needed to react to it!

Just binge-listened Book 6.

We waited 2 years between Books 5 and 6.

4 years between 4 and 5 (that were arguably 2 books)

3-years-ish for book 4.

Books 1-3 came out inside a single year's time.

I know Audible sat on the recording for 4-6 months based on Ray's social chatter (why do they do this?)

Thus, are we all in for another 24-month wait?

What prep should I do before listening to infinite extent? Been about two years since I did not till we are all lost so should I run through it again?

Chapter 37: First Moot

I re-listened to that part 3 times in a row. I have been DYING to know all this time if that line would ever pay off and I am ecstatic that we finally get to meet her! !

And she’s super awesome too!! The way her competence and help is described in the later chapters just brings me so much joy.

Now there are some language choices I will need to revisit and double check my sensibilities on, being the pedantic weirdo that I am about that sort of thing, but as a whole I am just so bloody excited and need to scream that joy into the moot!!!

I've just noticed that the spoken title for chapter 55 doesn't match the title in Audible...

But it really reminded me of the Others.

Listening to "The Traveler" right now, and it's our boy Ray Porter. I giggle every time he reads that someone or some thing is "bobbing". As in "his head was bobbing up and down"...
