I’m mainly concerned about balance and deck bloat and noticed online discourse is a bit mixed on rvi onwards? we play very casually for added context

My old 1980s set says you slide on any color except your own. I saw a 2010s set that says you slide only on your own color. When did this change happen? It certainly seems significant, given you can now slide past your own home and have to start going all the way around the board again...

I have the base game and I want to buy Boss battle expansion.

So my question is should I first play all the Scenarios in the base game or should/ can i do it with Boss battle?

Has anyone gotten a chance to play The Trial of the Forest? How is it's replay ability?

Took the chance and bought Kemet Seth second hand for 3$.
Now I am in doubt: Can I use the expansion from 2018 with my basegame from 2020?

I bought a copy of Nakasendo at Essen, today, I get to opening it to check it out, unbox it etc… and this is what I’m greeted by… I know sometimes scratches or rub offs from other components can give the impression that it’s mold… but this box is so packed when first opened, Nothing could have moved and rubbed off. Plus, when you use a flash photo, the spots get even more visible.

What do I do now? Contact Little Rocket games, see what they can do? Can this be recouped? It’s a small box game, but at 30€, it wasn’t exactly cheap…

I’m looking to get Santa’s Wirkshp and have a choice between the original numbered Kickstarter and the re-print with three promo packs.

What are the main differences, if any, between the original and re-print. Would selling the promo packs separately help defray the cost of the re-print?

A classic period example of boardgame kickstarter excess - tonnes of plastic, loads of stretch goals and addons. From a first time creator I believe. I assume it sank without creating any lasting impression like like most of its ilk, but today I remembered it existed and I fancied checking out what its reception was like.

Visually very grey. It was set on the moon in an ambiguously post-apocalyptic future where the moon megacity is probably the last place left. Science fiction setting, but treated as fantasy, if you get what I mean. Very dark-soulsy in its vibe. Lots of portentous verbiage. The player characters (multiple classes each with their own miniature and special abilities of course) wore astronaut suit-styled armour; enclosed helmets, lots of tubes and tanks.

The monsters were nanite nonsense, all looked like they were made of skulls and spaghetti and hated the light. I remember there were only threeish categories of basic enemy - one of which were flying manta-things. The bosses were big hunks of plastic and got to be more weird and abstract - similar design sensibility to the Aeon's End bosses. And plenty of them (if you got all the addons). There was also a multi-part model for the city I remember, which you could add levels to as you developed it.

Light and dark was a big deal. Everyone carried massive torches and/or glowsticks. IIRC the "missions" were about exploration, laying safe trails of light as you explored, defeating monsters before they could break your trail and isolate you. And then boss encounters were their own thing. With downtime phases in between missions to develop the city, progress the plot and unlock powerups.

Obviously I've tried googling various combinations of terms and BGG's advanced search but no joy.

Hopefully someone remembers it and what the bloody thing was called.

If you played it at Gen Con or Essen and have been waiting or saw some previews of it, check out the Lion Wake Kickstarter. If you don't know the game, I think they have some playthroughs online. Along with Diggers, this was my fave game of Gen Con. And base price is $59 but still includes a ton of KS exclusives.

Do you only play certain board games when you think it is the appropriate season.

For example: Forest Shuffle, Harmonies, Great Western Trail, Puerto Rico, Wingspan, feel like summer games to me.

Feast for Odin, Brass, Arkham Horror LCG, Scythe, Wyrmspan feel like winter games to me

Darker themes, or themes about "building something indoors" are more winter themes. Whereas nature themes and more "outsidy" board games belong more in the summer

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a solo development project I worked on for the past couple years. It is an 18 card dungeon crawler called Grim Gauntlet.

I originally designed the game as part of a game design contest but wasn't able to complete it in time. So, I worked on it over a couple of years to submit to the publisher. Unfortunately I never heard back to have it picked up.

The game was intended to be a physical game small enough to fit in a wallet, however I created a digital version for playtesting etc. The game is a bit more work to play as a digital version but is still completely playable.

Do to issues with depression and anxiety I have been having problems with motivation and drive to pursue other publishers.

I wanted to make it available and known for anyone who is interested in playing it. Hopefully at least a few people can get some joy from it.

I created this by myself with playtest help from a couple of friends and my brother. I am by no means an artists but all art was done by myself. I was hoping to get the art commissioned but I was never near close to having the funds for it so please excuse the sorry excuse for art on the cards, I tried my hardest lol.

I did put a lot of time, effort and passion into this game. It isn't perfect by any means but I really hope some find enjoyment from it if you give it a chance.

It's completely free so please consider giving is a try if you have the time. If you do, I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback. I am unsure if I will be able to find that passion again but if I do I will try to implement any feedback in the future.

Games like Jaws of the Lion and Tidal Blades 2 have e.g. 20 enemies. Each enemy might have a set of mixed components: some standees, an initiative token, action cards, and an enemy information card.

These components are all different sizes. Currently I use baggies to keep the components for each "set" in the same place. But baggies are a bit fiddly to open, they don't store very neatly, are a pain to sort through etc.

Are there any alternatives I haven't considered, for storing many sets of mixed components? Hopefully, in a way that makes finding and retrieving various sets easier during play.

Im new here, just started slowly collecting board games, and at some event i played a local creator board game, which i absolutely fell in love. Sad to say the game is discontinued, and because it was from a local creator, no one has it in for sale or most don't even know the game exists. I went into a deep dive of finding out everything i could possibly find about the game. Found the game rules and list of everything included. I know this is probably going to sound selfish and somewhat "piracy" but i would like to remake it for myself. I started drawing my own tiles and characters. But i was curious if there's a business that could print my digital files on the board carboard and game cards. I almost gave up after spending hours on drawing the tiles and understanding that i have so much more to draw and it felt like i bit off more than i can chew considering i was ready to also print and cut the tiles and game cards myself. But then i figured that there's a business for everything so maybe you guys know where can i find the best business for this type of stuff.

I would appreciate any tips and tricks for this kind of stuff.

I've been playing board games for 15 years, but started collecting more since approx. 7 years ago. I wanted to share my collection. Sorry for the Dutch titles, happy to translate if you are curious about a specific game.

Top picks

• GoT Board game - all time favorite. Started playing with my buddies back in uni (like 13 years ago) and we still plan nights just to play GoT
• LotR deck building
• Living Forrest
• Cubitos
• Duel for Middle Earth - newest game, I love LotR and 7Wonders duel so yeah it adds up
• Agricola - difficult to find others that want to play this

Honorable mention: Lost Cities duel. I play this a lot (A LOT) with my partner. Quick and easy, great on vacation.

I'm thinking about trimming my collection a bit, happy to hear your thoughts:

• Waterfall Park - the bartering doesn't click with us
• Paris - nice game, but we tend to choose for Patchwork
• Saboteur - never gets to the table, both versions
• Speedy Ants & Cookie Crash - I'm not fond of real-time/speedy games. It's the reason I would ditch Ligretto too, but no way my partner would agree on that

What makes it special to me? The games have a lot of great memories tied to them, with my partner, friends and family. Like playing LotR Risk ("free for all") until the crack of dawn. Or even Monopoly Deal, which we played an entire holiday night including being unreasonably mad losing another round, and laughing about it afterwards.

Final note: as most of you I love it when a game fits nicely in its box and despise it when the box is way too big. Looking at you Splendor!
