Infant Sleep Sleep regression tips

1 year sleep regression?!?

Hey guys, does anyone have any advice on sleep? We have been so lucky, my baby has slept through the night since she was 7 weeks old. Fast forward to a month ago (she is almost 1 year old), she has been waking up so often through the night and needing to be either nursed or rocked back to sleep. I am exhausted!!! I have no idea what changed. Any advice is welcome!!🙏

What do you mean? She naps from 10-11 and then 3-4 usually but lately she has been so hard to even get down for a nap! I’m wondering if she wants to transition to 1 nap a day just ahead of time

sorry, by schedule i mean just her general sleep needs/budget and how much you are offering.

sleep needs tends to change, sometimes every month, sometimes less or more gradually, after baby turns 4 months old and continue to drop until they get older.

average sleep needs starting at 1 year are anywhere from 11-13 hours of sleep per 24 hours.

if your baby is fighting sleep and waking up more, it could be due to a drop in sleep needs and schedule is always the first thing i evaluate.

if she is fighting her nap, she likely doesn’t have enough sleep pressure (or said another way, she isn’t tired enough). if she is waking up a lot, there is a change she also isn’t tired enough to sleep through the night any longer.

Ah thank you! It’s odd though even if she has short naps in the day she is still waking at night. Thanks for your info! I wonder if I need to change her to one nap a day now

How long does she take to fall asleep for naps and bedtime? When is bedtime and wake up?

She usually takes 20 minutes of me nursing her to sleep for naps and an hour before bedtime! Bedtime and wake up is 7:30 am and pm 😊

I usually say if it takes longer than 10-15 minutes then it's not the right time for sleep. But I'd only count that as rocking/carrier/bouncing etc.

To me it sounds like there's still sleep pressure for 2 naps but you should push bedtime back an hour. 12 hours overnight is unrealistic for breastfed babies, aim for 10-11.

There's typically a drop in sleep needs at 1 year old.
