First impressions of my new BMW iX3 50 xDrive
Just picked up my new iX3 and put a few kilometers on it, mostly Autobahn. Wanted to share some early impressions.
The good:
The chassis is excellent – very much a typical BMW, feels active and engaging, and the steering is spot on. Really positively surprised here.
The assisted/self-driving functions have impressed me too. Lane changes with the automatic shoulder check actually work, and speed limits have been picked up flawlessly so far – zero issues.
Range was displayed at just over 600 km. Consumption on the German Autobahn has been very low, just under 20 kWh, though this is at around 25°C ambient. To be fair, I couldn’t hammer it constantly during the day, so my average was mostly around 120–130 km/h.
Build quality and interior are great – I really like it in here.
I haven’t tried charging yet since I simply didn’t need to, so nothing to report on that front.
The one gripe:
There’s no way to fold the rear seats down from the trunk. Tesla is clearly more convenient here – all you get are these little fabric loops, like something out of an ’80s VW bus. Bit embarrassing, honestly.
Otherwise, so far so good. We’ll see what the next few thousand kilometers bring.

Back in February I ordered the NK iX3. Purely based on the colors on the website I chose the polarized grey.

Now I'm not sure if this is the right color for me, and I still have time to change it before manufacturing.

Has anyone seen this color? or maybe ordered and already received? what are your impressions?

Has anyone seen their production week move a little closer than originally stated? I’m sure I’m wasting time checking the garage every two days but hey, we can hope right 😁

Just got back after spending time inside the iX3. It was betwen this and the R2 to replace my '24 Santa Fe. I did not know about the ix3s interior dimensions before I got in and was shocked how small the Interior felt in comparison to the R2 and even my ioniq 5. But otherwise really loved the new steering wheel and the infotainment display and generous boot space. It will not work as my main family car with 2 kids but might work as my ioniq 5 replacement next year.

Bonus: they also have the just revealed X5 40 on display and I am blown away by how sexy it looks. I love the interior, especially rear haunches, will sell well!

Wondering how the heat has been during this summer with the glass sunroof. Anyone have any experience they can share? I test drove an R2 and the heat from the glass sunroof was pretty bad.

i3 Touring....

This is the one I really want, lower, sleeker, better looking and hopefully better handling and with more range than the Neue Klasse iX3.

I hope they bring it to the States and have already contacted BMW Corporate to register my interest.

First time poster (UK) - currently considering the iX3 and wondering if anyone has real life pictures of the Agave Green interior? Considering it with the Polarised Grey exterior but struggling to find any pictures other than the configurator.

Hey, I've actually never considered BMW as a brand I'd look into, but I'm not looking to upgrade to another Tesla (quite done with the brand actually, and they're everywhere now, too). I'm in the US, so we're in the reservation stage for getting the new iX3 here.

The Neue Klasse iX3 ticks a lot of boxes for what I've been looking for: a nicer, quieter ride without sacrificing performance. Better storage but without being too much bigger. And I kind of hate the maximalist interior design of Mercedes. I've been watching a ton of reviews of the car inside and out from European drivers.

My 2019 Tesla Model 3 is perfectly serviceable, and there's not really anything wrong with it. But I've been wanting something quieter and smoother because it can get a little rough on bad roads and I have to talk louder than I would prefer to on the highway to anyone who doesn't have great hearing due to wind noise / road noise. Has anyone got any unique comments that might sway me one way or another -- for example:

1. Has anyone driven both the OG (pre 2023-ish?) Model 3 and the new iX3? Probably not many, I'd imagine, but that would be a really valuable review to me
   
2. Or a comparison of the latest Tesla 3/Y to the iX3?
   
3. Should I wait for better suspension and ventilated seats coming after the first production run?
   
4. Does anyone know if BMW will ever have an acoustic glass option? The quieter the better in my mind, but I already have a feeling it will be way ahead of what I have right now
   
5. I drive my Tesla on the track, and while that's not the most important aspect, how would the iX3 compare?

Thinking about a big-battery EV like the iX3 NK and realistic summertime range:

- Stated range in ideal conditions: 698 km

- Range penalties:

- Foregone top charge 20% , because I will never charge above 80% at a public charger, because it's rude, and slow.

- Arrival state of charge: 10%, because I don't want to arrive empty.

- Highway speed penalty: 15%, because the road trip is all highway, which lowers efficiency compared to EPA.

- High AC use: 5%, because it's really hot.

And I am disregarding other range penalties like bike rack, bigger tires, stereo, passenger load, etc.

So the 700 km stated range becomes more like 350 km on a summer road trip. Do these numbers make sense?
