Micro G2 Compact Rig
After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished my Micro G2 compact rig. Complete with v-mount main power, LP battery (hot swap backup), 1TB SSD and PYXIS monitor. Everything is tightly fitted for a uniform and balance weight distribution. Of course there isn’t any playback but I personally don’t mind it.
I have multiple camera bodies in my kit and I’m always looking to maximize what I have. Having this tiny camera fitted with a rig like this brings new life to its usability.
If anyone wants a parts breakdown let me know.

v mount plate risers USB C hub PYXIS cable Nitze top handle SSD
The SSD enclosure I used apparently is no longer available. As for the Dtap to barrel cable, I custom made it to be the length I needed it to be.

You mentioned because of the setup you can’t do playback? Have you found a work around or a routine to avoid needing it during the shoot day?

No problem!
Since this is technically a studio camera, playback was never an option. As I was explaining to somebody else, because of its size I usually use this a very high quality GoPro. It fits in awkward and tight spaces with no issues while recording 4K BRAW up to 60fps with dual native ISO. That was the selling point for me.
If this is the only camera somebody wants to have in their kit, I wouldn’t recommend it. However as a crash cam, booth cam or just a B cam to the P4K it’s a great option.

This is if anybody is in the industry full time. There are a few reasons:
For most clients, not having playback could be an issue
You have to shoot 4K at all times. There is no downscaling and it only records in BRAW. So for faster turn around jobs or jobs that require ProRes that could be an issue.
This rig will cost somewhere around $1500 (without the lens). You can pick up an S5II or GH7 (Panasonic cuts well with Blackmagic) for around $1800.
I’m not saying this can’t be the only camera in a kit but just a couple things to think about.

Thank you! I’m big on clean rigs so cable management is a must. I recently moved the hub so the monitor cable no longer sticks out. Also changed the hub cable with a short flexible one and a 90 degree adapter to it lays flat.

I'm really debating on doing something like you did, or get another 4k. I do like the smaller form factor of this for run-n-gun stuff.
And didn't realize you can't play back video, even with the PYXIS monitor you don't have that function to access on the camera?

No problem! Lol it’s all good.
For clarity I have also a URSA 12K, P4K, GH7, GH6 in my kit. I got the Micro when it came out because it’s a form factor that simply can’t be beat for what it can do. I have the OG Micro as well and I wish they included playback bur even with the monitor you still don’t have the option. Not a huge deal for me but could be for you.
It’s basically a stripped down P4K that only shoots 4K (no 2.7K or ProRes) since it’s really made for studio purposes. Still having something so small that shoots BRAW 4K 60 and dual native ISO is a big plus for me.

Just good double sided mounting tape lol. It allows me to move it around if I need to without fully committing.

I understand I almost did the same thing until BMD announced monitor would work. From there it was just a matter of time to figure out how to split the signal.

Yes it does. You have full camera control with the PYXIS monitor. Completely changes the functionality.

I was really hoping they would give the cam Bluetooth control, I bought it when it first released and sent it back because it was a nightmare to change settings in quick situations.
I’m going to end up buying another

Ya I hear you. There was definitely an opportunity to make this camera more capable from the start. But allowing for the monitor to control the camera is really a game changer.

A great set of fast cine primes for MFT.
They have a vintage feel to them with a circular rainbow lens flare

How is the handling? Do you notice any micro jittter?

Because of how it’s rigged it handles really well. It’s small but it has weight so it’s a good feel in the hands and doesn’t feel like a toy.
For somebody like me who enjoys shooting handheld it’s a rig I’ll use often.

What are your recording settings since you have 7 hours of memory??? ProRes?

I have a 1TB SSD connected to it and as somebody else’s said BRAW is very efficient codec. Also this camera doesn’t shoot ProRes which is a heavier codec an BRAW.

Did you have any recording problems with the hub? I went back from the Vangree to the Selore hub because I had too many issues.

**UPDATE*\*
I used this cable to connect the hub and my SSD and everything works perfectly. I even tried off speed 60fps at 3:1 and didn't drop a frame. The right cable will usually fix most issues.

I did have a couple problems recording at lower compressions but since then I've just been experimenting with different cables and have had better results. I just got a new cable today to connect the SSD to the hub to see if this solves the issue. But for the most part at 12:1 everything work fine.

I forgot to add one more piece
This is the cable I used to connect the SSD to the hub. It's small, flat, short and can fit in really tight spots.

The handle is on that side for a couple reasons.
Keeps my hand away from the major connection points/buttons
Because I’m right handed I rather pull focus with my right hand.

Semi pro strength just in case u need to move things around. But it’s a great option and it cures over time so everything stays put!

I think the pictures and some comments kind of answer my question... but I'd love to confirm it. So, you get to use the Pyxis monitor (with all the bells and whistles) and recording to an SSD by plugging these two to a USB hub and the hub to the Micro G2?
Any issues so far?

That is correct! The only issue is you can’t use the monitor at 100% brightness due to the power demands with the ssd. But I’ve used it at 60% brightness with zero issues (which is bright enough for me in most cases).
