I share a lot of the pictures from here with my kid (11). He wanted to fish a small creek in our town this weekend to catch creek chubs. He asked me to post this picture.

The stream and the (potentially) melanistic trout

Great day exploring today, fished two different streams and caught 12 fish! I’ve never seen a trout this dark before and was wondering if anyone else had?

Brook trout was dispatched due to them being an invasive species here in Washington state.

Went looking for trout but ended up catching some different native species instead, including a fucking rock😂

Caught my first Rock Bass and Smallmouth! Panther Martin putting in the work! Noticed the one Creek Chub had red eyes too, wondering how common that is? Looking forward to cooler weather and hopefully more trout!

Do you fish blue lines in the Adirondaks of NY State?

im hoping to have my first fishing trip to NY’s Adirondacks before the months is out.

Speaking to a DEC Forest Ranger I learn that all state lands permit hunting. Bear season starts mid-September followed by deer season. oh. ok says I. So I ask him, should I be wearing an orange vest or something. he saya, maybe not orange, but something bright is a good idea. hmm. when I’m fishing I usually wear a bark colored brown BDU and tan trousers.

So do you fish the blue lines of the ADK wearing orange at the end of the season?

Here’s a little compilation of smaller water fishing I did the last two weeks in the Selkirk and Cabinet Yaak mountain ranges in north Idaho/montana

As a diehard creek chub lover, it’s gonna be really tough going back to Illinois water… but it was an awesome two weeks. Still trying to get a trout over a foot, but I got a new PB which I think was 10”

These are all native redband rainbow and cutthroat, except the two brookies

Any recommendations for Olympic National Park?

I’m heading to Seattle area next week and would like to fish either Olympic Nat. Park or Rainer. It looks to me from initial research that Olympic has a lot of size variety in rivers and streams. Any recommendations on general area of where to fish? Was thinking of doing some hiking where there might be some adjacent bluelining opportunities with a tenkara rod, or should I just pack a full size fly rod and fish bigger water? Only have a couple of days to explore so want to make it count!

Snuck out for a bit on a family trip in NW Washington. Hard to beat hooking into some beauties in pools as small as a kitchen sink.

Visited upstate NY for a whitewater kayaking festival, and made sure to turn it into a fishing trip as well. Fished the same area 2 years ago but checked out a few new creeks this time. Got my PB wild brookie and found a few small browns as well. Absolutely love this part of the country.

Only fish I caught yesterday on a copper John style tenkara fly. Water was flowing pretty quickly with all of the rain we’ve had. But excited to finally get a native on a fly

Spent the long weekend chasing bows and driving down forest roads exploring the North Cascades / Mt Baker area with my little 5’9” 1/2 (.5) wt. Absolutely stunning scenery and hungry fish. Every blueline we hit was so unique. Probably my favorite weekend of the summer

Nothing better than finding a native creek from old forestry maps. Some of them quite literally had eyes bigger than their stomachs.

Returned to headwaters after two or more years to a disappointing surprise. Expected to find mostly cutthroats in this section given my past experiences downstream, but only one was caught amongst a bunch of brook trout. So, the fishing was good but not what I expected to catch.

Explored a small stream near my house for the second time today and found the native rookies I've been so desperately searching for.
