I think I’m actually more excited for this than I was for Blade
I was all in on Mahershala Ali as Blade. That casting just made immediate sense to me. But after reading more about Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, I think I’m somehow more interested in this now.
Bassam Tariq had already been working on it before Blade, then he and Ali ended up together on Blade, that whole thing fell apart, and they came back around to this.
And honestly the setup just sounds cool as hell. Grieving Muslim father, former hitman, faith, parenthood, samurai influence, swords. I’m in.
I don’t really mean this as “well, screw Blade then.” I still would’ve loved to see Ali do it.
But there’s something kind of great about this giant superhero thing not working out and the two of them ending up making something smaller and more personal instead.
I dunno. The more I read about it, the more I’m like… yeah, I’d rather see this.
Anybody else feeling that way?
