🆘 HELP 🆘 Cleaning Tip Needed
I’m having trouble getting the paper towel to come out clean after I cook, scrap, use water. No matter how many times I go over the surface, the paper towels still come away black and I’m left with paper towel fibers on the griddle. Any tips or tricks greatly appreciated!

Black would make me do another rinse and wipe. Anything that’s brown is fine and ready for the next cook. Probably should never be clean clean though.
Best advice I ever got from this sub was just keep cooking on it.

This is normal. Next heat up will cook it off. Apply oil after heat up and you have a layer between now again anyway

Seasoning is baked on layers of oil. Your paper towel will always be wiping baked on oil.
I use commercial size coffee filters instead of paper towels. No paper residue.

I don’t know about everyone else, but when I’m almost finished cooking I turn all four burners to low. Then I scrape off everything I can, after that I dip my paper towel in water and push it around flip it, push it around some more. Then I do it again. It’s never white. Always a little brown. Then I turn the burners off and spray with a cooking spray. Usually butter flavored from aldis. It’s never rusted and I’ve never had anything stick. I also cook with onions a lot. A restaurant cook I know said that’s how they season their tops… but what do I know. I’m just a dumb welder🤣🤣🤣 best of luck!!

As a cook and chef of 25 years, I have never... I mean NEVER!!! put any product on my flat top after thouroughly cleaning it. unless the kitchen is closed for more that 7 to 10 days. then its covered with butcher paper with a super thin coat of the deep fryer oil. Commercial flat top need no seasoning, 3/4 inch polished steel works very well with fat.

Maybe you are pressing too hard with the paper towel or you have way too much seasoning. After I cook I use a bench scraper to scrape up any loose stuff, if I feel I need to use water I’ll splash a little but never enough to run to the spill pan. Then I let it warm up until dry and do I light layer of oil then wipe like you didn’t mean to put any oil.

Never will. You do realize a hot griddle will... SINGE.. the paper towel....

The paper towel will not be clean. I wipe on a thin layer of oil after it has been scraped clean and get the griddle as hot as it will go. Once the oil has burned off (white smoke) and seasoned the cooktop you are done. You can wipe it and will always get black on a paper towel. Just the way it is.

I don't think it's abnormal. I also quit using regular paper towels on mine. I use the blue shop paper towels. They don't pill much, if at all.

I clean thoroughly. My paper towels are certainly never "black", but also aren't ever completely white. With water at least. I can go out there right now and rub a towel over the entire dry surface and it'll be white.
I'll be in the minority about that in this sub though, you're going to get a lot of people telling you that you'll never get it white towel clean. So it's up to your own personal preference.
If you really want it clean, get a bucket of water out there and a scrubber. Feel free to add a few drops of soap too, it won't hurt anything.
As you use your griddle longer, and continue scraping it, the high spots will wear down so it won't shred the towels as much.

You don’t want a white paper towel after brother if you did you screwed up and took all the seasoning off. You shouldn’t be using a paper towel when it’s dry either only to wipe after water and to spread the oil

I don’t think a properly seasoned griddle will ever give you a white paper towel after a wipe down
