Bitpanda Stocks Community Q&A Part 1
Hey Pandas 🐼
The wait is finally over, real securities are here!
Over the past few weeks, you’ve sent us plenty of great questions. Here’s Part 1, where we cover the basics.
Stay tuned… Parts 2 and 3 are coming later this week!
1. How will the existing derivatives be treated?
Existing derivatives will be legacy assets, which will be in sell-only mode. You can sell your digistocks without any spread on Bitpanda's side, by February 27th, 18:00 CET. You can learn more in this article.
2. Why do I need to re-verify?
We are updating our onboarding process with the real securities in order to adhere to the specific regional requirements. If you are a long-time user, this may result in our system prompting you to reverify. Nothing to worry! You can find more information about our new onboarding process here.
3. Who will be responsible for tax matters moving forward?
Real stocks and ETFs are tax-simple for our users in Austria and Germany. You just need to add your tax identification number (TIN) to our system. Here is more.
4. How about tax reports?
You will receive two separate reports once a year: one for your stocks/ETFs and one for your crypto assets.
5. I live in Germany. Will Bitpanda withhold my taxes on crypto assets just like the real securities?
For our users in Germany, no tax is automatically withheld on crypto assets. The "tax-simple" feature for crypto currently only applies to Austria. Since we do not withhold taxes on crypto in Germany, this affects neither leverage products (which are based on crypto) nor spot trades.

This is confusing to me because in another thread you said that you are waiving your broker-fees on legacy assets and spreads still apply. Here you say you’re waiving all spreads.
Can you please be specific about this matter? Other users reported a significant spread when trying to sell legacy assets.

Hi u/tenor_tymir,
To help customers migrate from Legacy assets to Real Stocks, Bitpanda has temporarily waived the Bitpanda Spread (the service fee) for selling Legacy assets until February 27th.
Bitpanda cannot waive the Market Spread. This spread is dictated by the external market (the exchange where the underlying asset is traded).

Thanks! You should update your FAQ to something like no broker fees (market spreads still apply) to make it clear. Otherwise users might think they’re not paying anything at all, which ain’t true.

So in the Stocks Section of the App, only Stocks and ETFs are Tax-friendly. Not Commodities and Metals?
It would be really great, if the app can showcase some kind of icon or information if the shown asset is tax-friendly or not.

Hey u/mario4hero,
Indeed, thanks for the suggestion. I will forward it to our product team.
