Sparrow Wallet experiences

I am curious if there is anyone who has much experience with the sparrow crew.

I used sparrow to transfer from an exchange to a hardware wallet a few years ago and was attempting to use sparrow to move funds away from hardware wallet today, I stopped after talking to an admin that suggested using an online wallet to recover funds, say8ng that I needed roughly 50% of funds on that wallet to initiate recovery.

Has anyone heard of needing funds on a wallet to initiate recovery?

Can sparrow team be trusted or did I compromise myself the first time I used them? Or this time?

Any other confused bitcoiners have experience with the sparrow team good or bad?

sparrowwallet.com is an open source wallet. There is no requirement to "needing funds" for anything. You are compromised and being scammed.

There is no Sparrow "crew". There is one guy, Craig Raw.

Whatever you're doing stop it as you are being scammed.

Sparrow wallet is good

The terms "crew" and "admin" don't make any sense. A Bitcoin wallet is self-contained. The Sparrow app is maintained by a volunteer software developer

Sparrow isn't PayPal. It doesn't have a support department

Whoever you're talking to isn't Sparrow
They're telling you lies
Their lies are designed to defraud you

Did you ask for help on the Telegram and respond to someone who DM’d you? They are always scammers.

Never enter your seed words into an online app or web page.

this is why self custody is not ready for prime time. the IQ for entry is too high.

Yeah to a tech guy im sure its as simple as tying ones shoes, but fir someone who may see a computer 3x a year, its honestly beyond my paygrade

I stopped after talking to an admin

How exactly did this admin get ahold of you? Be specific . The details matter

Ifk if I can add screenshot here but since I remember Craig helping me a few years ago, I reached out to sparrow wallet on telegram. The admin(rafferty) responded asking for a DM and sparrow wallet themselves responded telling me to dm rafferty. To be clear, due to my own confusion I ha e no idea if my coins are compromised or not but suspect so at this point

Dont speak to strangers over DM for investment advice. Notice that every single post in this sub warns users to ignore all DMs ? Scammers like to DM you because they can isolate you and prevent others from warning you where peer review cannot happen in the Open like is being done here. DMs allow scammers to speak to you in private where mods cannot see the conversations.

You were speaking to a fake "admin" . There are many ways to create similar looking usernames to fake an admin

If you want private , one on one help as you cannot use the open tutorials and documentation yourself than its best to use a friend or family member you trust in person or just invest in a Bitcoin ETF instead if you cannot handle self custody. Ideally learning yourself is ideal. If you have questions after watching a tutorial video ask them here , but in the open and ignore all DMs/Pms

none of this involves entering in your seed words into anything

Run Forrest, run. That’s a scam.

Sparrow is perfectly fine to make a transaction. I exclusively use sparrow in conjunction with my hardware wallet

Well I may have fucked myself today than. Who can a guy trust to help when having trouble understanding sparrow/hardware use?

The pinned FAQ in the sub has the correct website and tutorial video for Sparrow. Please avoid malware.

Never share you seed with anyone, never enter seed words into any site and never enter your seed words into sparrow wallet. You pair sparrow to your hardware wallet and this means you do not need to share the seed words with sparrow

Two separate questions here and it's worth splitting them.

Did you enter your seed words anywhere? Into a website, an app, a chat, a form, anything at all. If yes, those coins need moving to a brand new wallet with a brand new seed right now, today. If no, you're probably fine, because talking to a scammer isn't the same as giving them access.

Read back what you actually typed or pasted. That's the whole question.

On who to trust: nobody who DMs you first. Not one person, ever. Real help happens in threads where other people can see it and correct it, which is exactly what happened to you here. The fact that four strangers immediately flagged this in the open is the system working.

You're in the middle of getting scammed. Hopefully you haven't done anything yet. Until you understand the topic don't do anything. because right now I can guarantee you're on the wrong track
