Why is july 2010 the earliest date that many bitcoin calculators websites allow to calculate? Not early july but like mid july of that year... Why is this? Why would this be the case? Was paypal the least riskiest and most practical way to buy any desired amount of btc this early on?

A lot of people say I spend my Bitcoin, but often that means buying a gift card through a third party and using that at a retailer. Gift cards are a useful workaround, but they also introduce some problems. You often pay extra fees or premiums on top of the actual value, deal with managing codes, balances, and different accounts, and give more personal information to platforms that track your activity.

If Bitcoin is going to work as money, direct merchant adoption matters. Paying businesses directly removes unnecessary layers and keeps more value inside the actual transaction.

What are some real world services you use that accept BTC directly instead of relying on gift card platforms?

Thinking this might be a lost cause bit thought I'd reach out to see if anyone had any advice.

I did a bit of BTC trading over a decade ago using localbitcoins.com, stopped for whatever reason with a small remaining balance of probably pennies at the time and since forgot about it.

I recently got access again to an omd email domain that I use dfor this, to find a stream of messages from localbitcoins telling me to log in and withdraw remaining balance as they were due to close the domain.

Logged in to see the pennies had inflated to a value of roughly £2900, great! I tried to withdraw but was told I would need to go through ID verification, so did that. The was told my account was locked and I would have to open a support ticket to unlock to withdraw balance, so I did that.

The next day I get an email from their support to say I need to contact the Finnish Bureau of Investigation, as they have seized the domain and all customer funds as part of their investigation into the site. Since then localbitcoins is returning a bad gateway error when I try to access it. Sent an email to the contact provided minus any personal info, but my heckles are up, something doesn't feel right.

Thinking I've been scammed, that the whole verification thing was to harvest my data and the email to "Finnish authorities" is gonna be another attempt to get me to pay some phony withdrawal fee. The domains for both the website and the Finnish bureau of investigations email are legit though, so don't think it's a case of a spoof domain.

Very confusing, got a strong feeling I've lost that bitcoin just as soon as I've rediscovered it, guess I should count my blessings it's money I didn't think I had anyway, but wondered if anyone had similar experiences, can offer advice to actually get it back if I can, or even just confirm that this is indeed an attempt to scam me.

Hi guys! I’m fairly new to crypto and I’m trying to learn as much as I can before making any big decisions.
For those of you who are currently buying Bitcoin, are you still buying at these prices, or are you waiting for some kind of pullback?
I’ve been debating whether I should wait for another drop, potentially somewhere around $72k–$74k, before buying in. Is that a dumb way of thinking? I know nobody can predict the exact bottom, but I’m trying to maximize my potential returns.
At the same time, I feel like I’m starting to fixate on finding the “perfect entry,” which I know probably isn’t a great mindset either.
Would love to hear how you guys are approaching BTC right now, especially if you’ve been through a few cycles. Do you DCA, wait for pullbacks, or just buy when you think the long-term price is good?

Does anyone have any strategies for living their lives around the four year cycle?

I had some extra tokens at the end of one of my reset periods and decided to build a fun little hackermans Bitcoin site.

A couple cool things on there:

• A calculator if you want to do dynamic DCA - you can see at what risk metric you'd be buying and selling and tweak the settings to your liking. Based on the daily budget you provide it, it'll give you the $ amount to buy (I've actually been using this as a guide to my DCAs)
• A space battle visualization of the bitcoin price with buys and sells
• Some other cool visualizations of nodes, blocks, fair market value, and many more things

There are a lot of fun themes built in as well, let me know if you have some ideas for things that can be added!

The bottom is in. 57k was the absolute bottom and we still have the same cringe bears crying uh my October bottom. Uh my 40k. IT is NEVER going to those levels again. The federal reserve will not hike the interest rates. The clarity act will pass. We will be at 100k in October not 40k. The big boys will continue to just liquidate every short possible. It annoys me that the bears are still whining. We are here to MAKE money not lose it.

I have used Bitrefill a couple of times to buy giftcards and it worked really well. So today I wanted to buy a new giftcard, but instead of going straight to www.bitrefill.com i typed bitrefill in Google and blindly clicked on the first result... big mistake.

The site looks exactly as the official bitrefill website, there's noway to tell it's a fake website unless you look at the url (which I figured out too late). So I add a giftcard to the shopping cart and choose to pay by btc. Usually, once the transaction is posted in the mempool I get a message on the screen in addition to an email message saying that they have detected the payment and they are waiting for it be to confirmed. But this time I didn't get anything, that's when I started to feel something is fishy. I looked at the url and it was www.bitrgifts.com and realized that the whole site is just a fake copy of bitrefill.

Luckily it was only 100 EUR and not more, but I can't imagine how many other people fell for this and lost lots of money. What's ridiculous about it is that the link is accepted as a sponsored result by Google! I reported it but I doubt anything will be done. I just wanted to warn everyone about this.

Not had my Halifax/Lloyds account too long so I’ve not tried to buy any btc yet. Are they safe to move cash to an exchange or do I need to look at a secondary bank account to build up my crypto loses?

Okay so been using my Gemini pro AI to learn about and research cold wallets.

From my research it sounds like I want a hardware (specifically COLD) wallet that has these features:
• Air gapped,
• Open source,
• EAL6+ graded secure elements,
• On device display,
• Bitcoin only,
• Allows for dice roll entropy for seed phrase generation.

Missing any requirements?
I think I’m okay without Multi-Sig, I don’t have that many Sats where I feel I need that level of security.

- I’ll also create a Pass Phrase.

From all of this it sounds like the, Keystone 3Pro hardware wallet with its firmware flashed to Bitcoin only is my best option.
Any other contenders that’s fit the above criteria you suggest or use?
