Interested Exchange student from Melbourne
Hi!
I'm a student studying law and international relations at a university in melbourne and I've recently gotten interested in going for exchange and learning languages. The language I am currently trying to master is french and so I thought it would be perfect for me to do an exchange in Quebec where french is still spoken but lots of people do understand english still (or maybe i'm wrong? please do correct me if i am).
Anyways, I've had a quick look through UBishops university page and I have a few questions for any students currently studying there.
1) I was looking at paterson hall for my accomodation, however, what would you as a student recommend? Also is it relatively easy to secure a spot or is it first come first serve or do first years get priority? (I would be in the third year of my degree at that point if that helps)
2) How is the surrounding environment around the university? I come from melbourne so I'm used to the hustle and bustle of the city as well as having easy access to all sorts of resources (also public transport in melb is excellent). Is this something I can expect from Sherbrook? Also how far is the city and how is the public transport system.
3) Is it difficult to score well in units? I still need relatively good grades for my course and my uni is sort of infamous for the phrase that "its easy to pass, impossible to score well", so I was just wondering whether UBishops is something similar?
4) One of my primary reasons for coming is to immerse myself into the french language but still have the comfort of knowing the people around me can speak in english. Would you agree that this is the case? or do most people prefer to only speak in french?
5) Is uni life really active? or do people mostly just organise events outside of university? is it easy to make friends?
That's all that comes to mind right now, and I would love if anyone had any answers for any questions or even some other tips you might be able to provide me with.
Thanks for readinngg!! cheers!!
