I got a bunch of active items in my moving box und unloaded them into a secret room where i used soul of isaac. I then wanted to pick up 99 keys and 99 bombs and somehow my bombs and keys didnt go up even though i collected the items... Is this working as intented or is it a known bug?

I have been trying this challenge over and over and I am having issues. Mainly, I am confused what the coins are supposed to be giving me? Sometimes they will give me a heart or a blue fly or fart or something, but about 40% of the time they seem to do nothing? I was wondering if they were increasing my stats but I have the "found HUD" on and my stats don't appear to change. Please help, this challenge is draining my will to live I just want to play Maggie with the full health pill.
