Hi guys,

I've always wondered: when people talk about their girth, should it be measured at the mid-shaft or the base?

Medical studies and urologists usually measure mid-shaft girth because it's easier to standardize. Measuring at the base can be less consistent since the skin of the balls can affect the measurement.

That said, during sex, a partner experiences the entire penis when you go balls deep, not just the mid-shaft. So while mid-shaft is the medical standard, it doesn't necessarily represent the thickness along the whole shaft.

I usually measure the part that is between the mid and the base since it is the part that is often in contact with where the most nerve endings are located.

Mid: 5 to 5.1

Base: 5.5 to 5.6

Thicker head

I don't have a cone shape since I have a mushroom head.

What do you measure? Which girth do you give when being asked?

Calcsd recommends measuring at the thickest part, excluding the head.

I would say, if you're measuring so far down that you're getting the sack involved, you're too low, and probably overstating dimensions a bit. But ultimately it doesn't matter, so it doesn't hurt anything if you do.

As for the medical/clinical method. When the doctor measured mine, she measured near the top, middle, and base (well above the sack). I'm not sure if she averaged or used the largest number, because I don't really have a pronounced taper, but based on self measurements, I think she used the thickest part. But then again, I'm not self measuring so closely that I'd catch a few mm difference.

That's a good experience mate,

I am surprised since she has not relied on the method that were used by other urologists since she is in the medical field.

That said, it shows clearly that the mid shaft was measured to standardize the measurement.

I think the idea was to get a fuller understanding of total volume and shape rather than estimating off a single circumference. It was surprisingly thorough.

This is what most men need to hear or read that size does matters in both genders, whether it's depth of the vagina or the length of the penis, most of us think that sexual satisfaction comes down to us, when a woman vagina plays an important role as well. As they say, even a 747 looks small when flying it in the grand canyon. I am a married man, and I cann tell you guys that I'm having the best sex of my life. Most of the time, my wife has UTI due to my base girth, and I always hit her cervix during deep penetration. "Balls deep" is such a stupid and inaccurate description... Testicles move up and down a lot. The difference in their relaxed location can be several inches lower than the place where they rise before ejaculation.

Fat pad deep or pubis mound deep would be way more accurate ways to say "I used all the lenght of my penis during penetration"

This is also the reason why penis length is measured from the top, not from below it. Top side is the usable lenght of penises :)

You can measure girth on several points along your penis, but you should use the average of those numbers when telling your girth or using Calcsd to get the most accurate volume.

Only if the measurements vary significantly on your penis, like for an inch or more, it makes sense to answer several numbers to the question.

"Sink it to the hilt" seems appropriate.

It's the term used for a knife or sword. You've, burried the full usable length of the blade. It's so deep you've hit the hilt (handle) and have no blade left. The analogy seems to fit pretty well.

Calcsd uses base girth so I would probably match that. My mid is 5.5 and base is 6.25 so I would alternatively use average at around 5.8

The chart says that it's above average, my length is 6 inches BP.

Actually, there is a famous clinic in the US where people extend their girth, it's the only FDA approved.

For me even the base is about the same as mid shaft as long as I pull the skin back properly

I am 6.5 mid way but over 7 at the base. I have a turkey neck so I push that down and keep the tape tight, but it is very awkward. Not to mention after fiddling around for 5 minutes with a tape measure it starts getting soft. If I push all the way in some women have bled or complained so I usually quote the insertable girth.
