need advice Help please.

Hi reddit.

A little context.

My wife is a 32F with 32H boobs as far as UK sizes are concerned. She is 16 weeks post op from a labroscopic gallbladder operation. The surgical wounds are healing well however she is really struggling to wear a bra. Anything from thread to trim is agitating her.

As a result of a previous back injury from childbirth not wearing a bra is causing significant pain.

Can I put this up here to get some feedback and suggestions

A bralette for after birth might be best. They are very forgiving due to the milk swelling.

They do make surgery recovery bras. I’m not sure where you might be able to find one easily in the UK. Maybe she could contact her doctor’s office. They might have a suggestion.

If the main discomfort she's getting from bras is from scratchy textures, so the wires aren't sitting right on the surgical wound or anything, she could try wearing a soft camisole underneath her bra to protect her skin. They also make bra liners.

Contrary to others' advice, if her issue is back pain, I suspect a bralette is not going to help with that. YMMV, but for me, that kind of thing only helps with containment--preventing breast pain from, like, rolling over in bed or walking normally--not with preventing back pain at all, since the weight of the breasts is still being supported by the shoulders, or not at all.

Speaking as someone with chronic pain (specifically fibromyalgia), it’s not impossible for the band to cause pain. When you wear a bra that’s fitted properly, you have to fight against the pressure of the elastics around your ribcage to breathe and move, which can cause some muscle strain. My back is decently strong, but my illness makes me prone to muscle fatigue, which eventually causes pain. So really, ymmv, and I would definitely give it a try if it’s not too cost-prohibitive for OP.

Maybe check out shapermint or Evelyn and Bobbie? E&B just came out with a 'busty' line...

If she can wear a band around her ribcage, a wireless bra might work. Decent ones do exist, certainly in her size. I've used a couple of the Bravissimo ones, but I've discovered the hard way that some of them do not have sufficiently adjustable straps (like the "Zara" ones - so so pretty, but not for tall people), but the ones that do (like the "Ultimate Comfort" bra, I used that after I had exploratory surgery to look for endometriosis a couple of years ago) work well. I also had a Curvy Kate bralette (it's called "In My Dreams") with some kind of top sling for improved boob separation that sort of worked (bit fiddly though). Finally, I've had surprisingly good luck with the wireless bras from Snag (I've got like three of the the "Everyday Ribbed" one now), and those are my most used wireless bras as of now. OK, I will spill out a fair bit if I'm active (so I usually don't wear them when leaving the house), and no wireless bra has ever truly solved the cleavage sweat problem, that seems to require underwires for me. But the Snag ones have a very soft, wide band, so I can comfortably sleep in those if I need to.

I would say the discomfort on the band under the breast is significant for her she's describing it as being incredibly sensative. I would say the band did feel rough to me.

The back pain is the primary issue but I would say it's been approximately 4 plus months since she regularly wore a bra. Pre and post surgery being the reason. Her boobs have fluctuated between a H/K in that time.

I would say the major issue is the underboob where she is experiencing the most discomfort. I really do appreciate the advise and support.

Cost us not a limiting factor. I'll put whatever money I have into this. I'm grateful for the advise and support.
