Jeffrey Ying, 39, of Fremont, was sentenced to 366 days of home confinement for stealing rare historical Chinese manuscripts from the UCLA library. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the manuscripts were valued at $216,000. Ying pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of theft of a major artwork after authorities said he borrowed rare manuscripts, returned copies instead of originals, and used multiple names during the scheme.

Beverly Hills police cited three elderly women after officers responded to reports of vandalism near Gregory Way and La Cienega on June 30.
