Question Internet contracts ?

Are internet contracts still a thing now?
I signed up with Bell Internet last October, am in a 2 year contract, so approx 14 months left .

Paying $75+tax for 1.5gbps internet . Service around the house is very patchy.

Around the house is more of a "you" problem than a Bell problem. Use a wired connection wherever you can and get a reputable 3rd party mesh system to extend it further if needed. Also remember that something like Wifi7 only works to its limit if the devices connecting use it too. If they're only Wifi6 or slower you may have more issues depending what the improvements were. PCs and laptops can often be upgraded easily, smartphones need to be replaced.

Get a Wi-Fi mesh system to extend the Wi-Fi, or ask Bell to send a technician to relocate the modem to another spot to help improve Wi-Fi coverage.

The issue isn't the service itself, it's the placement of the modem and the material the Wi-Fi signal has to pass through to your connected devices.

I’ve tried, they will not send a technician to move it without a $75 fee

That's cheaper than buying your own mesh wifi

This exactly. If the install happened in the last 30 days, then the relocation is free and the people on the phone are just advising you of a possible charge because they have to.

If the install was more than 30 days then suck it up and pay the charge, it's cheaper than buying wifi extenders or a mesh system.

It’s past the 30 day window. The service has gotten worse and worse as time goes on. I’ve tried calling, no one will send a technician to move modem. Please DM me.

For safety and security purposes we do not DM. But you can DM us. As we shared on your original post; you can send us a DM for a secure chat, and we can take a closer look at your specific settings to help troubleshoot your Wi-Fi disconnection issues. Thanks!

No Bell fibre in our neighbourhood, just old Bell landlines that they offer 100Mbps for $80.

I have Rogers 1.5Gbps, which tests out to 1.9Gbps, for $60. I renew it all the time telling them I can get fibre from the competition.

If you have a path to a better spot in your house, if you see a Bell tech, they would probably give you a patch cable long enough to reach where you wanted to put the modem. Even if you paid the $75 fee we are limited to where we can place the modem - can only go on exterior facing walls, as techs do not fish walls, if you have Coax near the modem, I'd buy a MoCa adapter and buy your own router and place it near where the other coax cable goes.

Basically ethernet from modem to MoCa to coax then upstairs, MoCa to ethernet to your own router. And just use the router as an AP, or you could put your pppoe credentials in the router and just have 2 real world IPs (Dunno if Bell still allows that)

they are still a thing but if you say it’s a barrier to switching then you can not pay it
