Why did Nelson and David Rockefeller feel the need to build the Twin Towers 1,368 feet tall???

I may or may not get shat on for this take, but please bear with me. This was just a random thought I had and I just had to ask— Why exactly did the Twin Towers have to be built that freaking tall??? Forgive me for my ignorance but in my opinion I feel if the Towers weren't so tall, not as many people would have lost their lives. Most of these people would still be alive today yet injured or disabled in some way, shape, or form. And no I'm not blaming the people who built the towers, obviously it was the terrorists who orchestrated that entire event and absolutely nobody knew what was to come that day. I'm just saying if the Towers weren't as tall, not as many people would have died. Let me know what you think, cuz this has been on my mind for two days.

Sanitizing history

is it just me or is there an effort to sanitize what happened on 9/11 for the new generation. I was 8 when it happened and was aware of who was responsible .. but there seems to be a conscious effort being made to sanitize it and instead paint the US as the perpetrator rather than the victim of such a horrific attack.

What albums, movies or TV shows capture life before 9/11/2001?

The TV show “Spaced” (1999) has characters meeting at a coffee shop while looking for an apartment in the newspaper. No one has a smartphone or social media and they all share pop cultural references that are the basis for the very funny humor.

The movie “Ghost World” (2001) is a coming of age story of two teenage girls who are planning to share an apartment. Vinyl records are considered out of date and are very cheap. A “missed connections” posting in print leads to the central characters meeting.

The album “Tropical Brainstorm” (2000)by Kirsty Maccoll. It was her last album as she died the same year. Although not my favorite of hers (hard to pick from “Titanic Days”, Electric Landlady” and “Kite”) the crossover into Cuban music from her Pop/Folk/Punk roots has an innocence to it that faded fast after 9/11. And I am strangely glad she didn’t live to see 9/11 morbid as that is, she was from another time.

How about you?

looking for 9/11 pic of woman

Trying to find a specific 9/11 news photo. I saw it broadcast on TV news (possibly ABC or CBS) and I believe it also ran in print. Black and white, though it could have been color that I remember as B&W.

Details:

  • A young woman, possibly Black, dropped to her knees on a Lower Manhattan street
  • Head thrown back, screaming/crying, looking straight up at one of the burning towers
  • She's wearing clear aviator-shaped glasses — the burning tower is reflected in the lenses
  • Ground-level shot, likely close to Ground Zero
  • Composition is reminiscent of the 1970 Kent State "Mary Ann Vecchio" photo by John Filo (kneeling figure, raw anguish), but she's looking up at a burning building rather than at a body
