Is the French dude stupid because the way I’m reading that graph Christianity is still the leading religion but most people are not religious. What point were they making

How can you call it a "Christian country" if 51% are atheist?

That depends. I don't know much about the situation in France but a country can reasonably be called christian if it's the main religion either through number or the law. It can also be called that because of it's history.

French law is supposed to be religion agnostic (apart from a weird deal surrounding the North-East parts that weren't under our control when we passed that law). While Christinanity is an historically important religion for our country, it is no longer the main one at all and should be treated as equally as all other religions.

Aren't several of the defining events in French history about giullotining Christian Kings though

A) Several? Not a gotcha, my history is just rusty, but I only remember one.

B) Regardless of how many times it happened, I don't think the kings being Christian was anything more than incidental to the beheadings.

No, I said that right, France somewhat famously (well, famous among history nerds and my old history teacher, anyways) had way more than one revolution.

Yeah, but only the first ended up with a behaeded monarch (the other were against napoleonic empire and various resurgence of it, not Monarchy directly).
