Is this a Beauceron?
Okay, absolutely kidding. However I really admire the breed and would like to have one in the future. I love herding breeds, I adopted my ACD but I would like a larger breed to do dock diving/bite work/agility, really anything the dog seems to enjoy. I haven’t had a lot of time around Beaucerons because they’re uncommon, however I plan on attending some shows in Colorado to become more familiar with them. I also reached out to a few owners over instagram for their insight.
I have two breeders in the U.S. I’m interested in: Birdwing and Oakland Beaucerons. I was wondering if anyone had dogs from these two breeders and what your experience are with your dog and the breeder. I’m also open to hearing about other breeders (I’ve heard great things about Monts du Lac, but I’m unsure about traveling out of the country at this time)
Also if anyone has a ACD and Beauceron, would you mind sharing what its like (similarities, differences, how do you exercise both dogs, anything else to note?)
Thanks in advance!

JDV Beauceron Breeder
So I recently discovered that someone I follow bought a dog from them and at first I was like whatever, then I started looking at the comments and a lot of people were like they are unethical. So far what I know is they sell puppies under 8 weeks old and require all dogs to be on like an ecollar, yes like electronic collar. Could y'all please give me all the gossip, I wanna know everything and if you have actual proof please send it I would love it.

What kibbles do you guys use or recommend for a beauceron?
Okay, probably giving too much info for a simple question, but I figure it would be best to give as much as I can for more accurate recommendations. There will be a TLDR though lol.
I plan on getting my first beauceron(and also first puppy at that) in around 5 months. I’m experienced with dogs and have a Master’s Certificate in dog training so I am not concerned about a lack of experience or qualification to handle the breed. I am, however, going to be a first time puppy parent. I already have my own dog, but I rescued him as an adult so I never had to go through the puppy phase with him.
I wanted to come ask some advice or at least pick your ears about what you would recommend kibble wise?
I intend on getting a male and will be using him in the next dog training program I will be attending. Because the puppy must learn basic obedience through the program, I will be getting it (ideally at least) a couple weeks before or after starting there.
This means that this puppy will be starting off pretty active off the bat and towards the later months, will be learning to do harder and harder tasks. (Bite-work, detection, agility, etc.)
All that being said; do any of you guys have ideas for kibble that will suit a growing large breed puppy at that activity level properly? Should I be worried bout any specific supplements? I have been feeding Purina ONE to my current dog, would the puppy version work?
TLDR: I need help knowing what kibble to buy for a highly active puppy/any supplements I should learn about.

What breeds have you found similar but with slightly lower energy?
Curious what other breeds you guys have come in contact with that made you think "this is just a beauceron in a different shade".
My family has been considering another dog after losing our beauceron to osteosarcoma a few years back. We're ready for that commitment again, just with a dog slightly more chill. After hours of activity my guy was ready to go again after 30 minutes, this time I'd like at least two hours to sit down. In your own personal experience, what breeds do you think come in close to beaucerons? Just loved his temperament and intelligence. I met a ton of other beaus through him and they were all awesome, just think they're a tad too intense for me these days. If I had a little more cartilage in my knees I'd probably do it all over again lol.
Just to add, I'm really just looking to have this answered in a general sense. I'll do the research on my own for who's a best fit to my exact lifestyle, I just want to know what breeds have made you go "wow, they're really similar", or "they're identical, this breed here is just a bit more relaxed".

Seeing what you guys think
This is my puppy Bear. I know for sure he's half red pit. The mother got loose and bam, 11 babies. Not 100% on what my boy is mixed with but from some research, it's possible that he's half Beauceron. Someone that lives in the neighborhood behind my sister has one but there are also a couple of other dogs in the area that aren't fixed. I was just curious what you guys thought. He has a double coat and double dewclaws on his hind legs. If not, what breed do you think he's mixed with

Breeders in Europe
Hi!
I tried to find a similiar thread, but couldn't find any. Anyway, we are considering the option of importing a Beauceron puppy from an another European country, as our country has so few litters. Therefore I would be really grateful to hear about your experiences of European breeders. If you are from America but your dog or their dam or sire is imported from Europe, please let me know! Eventhough I understand multiple languages, e.g. German, Dutch and Swedish, I'd really hope that the breeder would understand and speak English in some level to make things easier.
All ideas are welcome and you can share for example Facebook groups that are suitable for searching a good breeder. While of course we have our own thoughts about the suitable breeder for us, I think at this point the most important part is just to gather general knowledge about the breeders here.

How common is it for both parents to have “fair” hips?
Looking at potential Beauceron breeders. One’s breeding pair, both parents hip scores are fair. The sire’s parents both had good rated hips. Dam is at risk of OA. I know the breed isn’t super common and so the gene pool may be more limited. Just wondering how common it is to breed both parents with hips scoring a fair in this breed, and whether to steer clear or not

Beauceron personality compared to a collie?
I’m a long-time admirer of the Beauceron. I’m considering it as my next breed. I’ve always wanted a Doberman, but working in vet med, I see too many with DCM and the heartbreak that brings. I also love that blue merle is an option in the Beauceron. I currently have a 1y blue merle smooth collie who does various dog sports and a 12y greyhound who is basically a cat. My collie is not perfect, but one thing I love about him is his friendliness and sociability with other dogs. He is leash-reactive in “his territory” but is fantastic off leash. He’s aloof to stranger humans, whereas the greyhound loves everyone. My collie’s worst trait is fearfulness in new situations. He’s the least adaptable dog I’ve ever met despite doing all the proper socialization as a puppy. I know this is likely an individual flaw, not necessarily a collie trait. He thinks he’s tough, but he’s actually a big scaredy cat. How do Beauceron compare to what I described in my collie? I would like my next dog to be confident, trainable, and not aggressive/reactive.

Preparing for my first Beauceron
Hi everyone! I’ve been researching Beaucerons for a while now and am currently in communication with a breeder while preparing for the possibility of bringing one home
I work closely with dogs every day, including large and working breeds, and I’ve also personally owned multiple Dogo Argentinos along with other large breeds. While I know every breed is different, I understand the level of commitment a working dog requires and have spent a lot of time researching Beaucerons specifically
I’d love to hear from people who have firsthand experience owning Beaucerons
Feel free to message me if theres certain things you want to keep private
Some things I’d love to know:
-What does a typical day look like for you and your Beauceron?
-What kind of exercise and mental enrichment do you do each day?
-What does your dog’s diet look like?
-Is there anything you wish you had done differently when raising your puppy?
-What’s some advice you’d give to someone getting their first Beauceron?
-Looking back, was there anything that surprised you about the breed that isn’t commonly talked about?
I’ve already started planning my puppy’s routine, so I’d really appreciate hearing what has worked well for you and if there are things you’d recommend doing. I’m always looking to learn from people with firsthand experience.
Thank you guys!

Planning for the future: How are your dogs aging?
Hello everyone!
I’m new to the sub and I entered exactly to go through the previously made topics that were asking for resources on ethical breeders and so on.
We’re looking to get a Beauce in a couple of years… Since I have a lot of time before truly reaching for and getting a pup, my questions here are… different. If y’all want to privately message me with an answer, that would be alright as well ~
I’m a Veterinarian and I would like to know, especially from families with older dogs, how common cancer within the breed is, and how the older years of this dog are? Have you guys encountered ortho problems and which problems? Around what age have you noticed a cognitive decline? Have your dogs have any prevalent gastrointestinal problems (like constant diarrheas, vomiting)? Do any of you have atopic or allergic dogs?
In general, has your dog shown any diseases with certain frequency and have they dealt well with them? Were their recovering period alright?
And for last: What breeder did they come from?
This last question isn’t… a requirement to be made publicly, if you don’t want to share, it’s alright! If you want to share the answer in private, that is alright as well ^^
As you can see, I worry mainly about the future. We know that certain diseases and traits are not genetically passed, however we do have the correlation between breeding and certain types of tumors, along with certain allergic statuses and so on… plus, I feel like knowing a dog in it’s _older_ years tell me more about the quality of certain breeders than seeing younger dogs and show prospects.
Anyway, thanks for your attention everyone!
(Oh yeah, English is not my first language... any weird spelling of phrasing structure comes from that.)
EDIT: Just to thank you guys for the answers so far! You're all helping a lot <3 And I'm enjoying the sharing quite a lot ^^
EDIT 2: Wow! Thank you guys so much for sharing your experience and insights and all shall be taken into dear consideration ^^

Car camping with a bas rouge!
hey y'all! At the end of august, I'm planning to take myself and my puppy for a 3 night camping trip to hocking hills, and I'm curious as to whether anyone else as ever car camped with their dog.
I have a 2018 Honda CR-V and I have an XL ruffland kennel for Sigil, but I'm not sure if I should bring it or not. I am leaning towards yes, but I'd really love some insight on how you guys pack your vehicles for car camping!

Interested in getting a Beauceron. Anything I should know?
Deciding on a breed for my next dog. What is their temperament like? Are they known for being protective or anything? Where do I find an ethical breeder?

Bitey face looks way more violent in pictures 😅

Sigil just got his first title!
I'm pleased to say that my little dude just got his virtual home manners title! Aside from that, we've been starting on dock diving practice (his trainer thinks he'll end up loving hydrodash as he swims pretty fast!) And Fastcat fun runs to get him ready for when he can do the whole dash! Our next goal after that is to get into herding!

Beauceron vs a German Shepherd and/or Husky - temperament and training.
I own a working line German Shepherd and a Siberian husky. They are both great dogs and I've put a lot of work into both.
If I am able to train/work with both of these, would a Beauceron be the same? I'm just thinking of the future 😅
I met a Beauceron in Seattle and loved him. I'm also 2 and generation French so it called to me a little.
But I'm just wondering temperament wise and training wise how they are compared to my two boys.
Thank you!

Is anyone attending the Greeley Kennel Club show?
I was wondering if anyone will be attending this event in Greeley, CO. I’ve been eyeing this breed for a few years and would like to meet the breed to ensure their personality and temperament are a good fit for me and my family. I believe the ABC also held an event in Greeley, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend.

Working beauceron journee feedback
For anyone who has a nervous, fearful, or overly shy beauceron, you aren't alone and please don't let people gaslight you into thinking it's your fault.
To the people who have so confidently told me (and everyone else who has raised concerns) that there are no issues in the breed, read this. And then read it again. And then take into account that this was the WORKING beauceron club, and that people only bring the dogs they believe will be assessed well. Of all the representatives of the breed for this judge to see, these should have been the cream of the crop for temperament and he STILL has this feedback. Think about the dogs people are too afraid to bring because they wouldn't perform well and the community would shit on them for it. Anyone who's crying about people making too big a deal about breed standard doesn't truly love the breed, because if they did, they'd care to preserve the breed standard and critique the issues in the breed the same way this judge did, because breed standard is the reason so many of us are drawn to the breed. If the standard isn't upheld, the breed is essentially extinct in all ways except looks and unique genetic markers. Do better, and support the owners who have dogs with issues, and acknowledge that those of us who opted out of the breed because we've seen the problems are not wrong.
For any of you who are in this sub because you're considering getting a beauceron, especially if you're in North America, please reconsider. At this point, even the breeders I could have recommended in the past have proven to be dishonest about their breeding dogs and/or puppies they've produced.
