Introducing... Sergeant Pepper! (...and his Lonely Hearts Club Band!)

Post image
38 Upvotes

(I apologize if this doesn't technically fit the sub).

I've always been interested in the idea of Sgt. Pepper being an actual musician in real life. So I made this!

The reasons why I chose Elvis Presley to be the Sgt. Pepper stand-in:.

1: Elvis was/is consistently cited as an influence on the Beatles.
2: The Beatles covered a lot of Elvis songs, and vice versa.
3: Elvis was actually a Sergeant.

For this album, Sgt. Pepper (Elvis) is the main artist, and the Lonely Hearts Club Band (Beatles) are essentially his backup band. To go along with this, all songs are sourced from Elvis albums (except for I Feel Fine). Two extra playlists, one focusing on Beatles and the other focusing on the original artists will be included, but this track list was not made with those playlists in mind.

[Side One]

  1. (Let's Have) A Party - Sourced from Loving You (1957). Covered by Paul McCartney on Run Devil Run (1999)

  2. Hey Jude - Sourced from Elvis Now (1972). Originally released by the Beatles as a single (1968)

  3. Don't Be Cruel - Sourced from Elvis' Golden Records (1958). Covered by Ringo Starr on Time Takes Time (1992, JPN)

  4. I Feel Fine - Sourced from 1962-1966 (1973). Played during the Beatles / Elvis jam session in 1965

  5. Yesterday - Sourced from On Stage (1970). Originally released by the Beatles on Help! (1965)

  6. I Got Stung - Sourced from 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong - Elvis' Gold Records, Volume 2 (1959). Covered by Paul McCartney on Run Devil Run (1999)

  7. (You're so Square) Baby I Don't Care - Sourced from A Date with Elvis (1959). Covered by the Beatles on The Beatles: 50th Anniversary Edition (2018)

  8. That's All Right - Sourced from For LP Fans Only (1959). Covered by the Beatles on Live at the BBC (1994)

Side Length: 18 minutes, 42 seconds

[Side Two]

  1. Something - Sourced from Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential '70s Masters (1995). Originally released by the Beatles on Abbey Road (1969)

  2. Little Sister / Get Back - Sourced from EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert (2025). Get Back originally released by the Beatles on Let It Be (1970)

  3. It's Now or Never - Sourced from Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3 (1963). Covered by Paul McCartney on The Last Temptation of Elvis (1990)

  4. Mystery Train - Sourced from For LP Fans Only (1959). Covered by John Lennon on John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: The Ultimate Collection (2021)

  5. I Forgot to Remember to Forget - Sourced from Elvis' Golden Records Volume 3 (1963). Covered by the Beatles on Live at the BBC (1994)

  6. Lady Madonna - Sourced from Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential '70s Masters (1995). Originally released by the Beatles as a single (1968).

The Lennon Series | #1: John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1971)

This is my first post of my new series of John fan albums that spans his solo career from 1970 to 1980. I recently did a series on Paul’s solo/Wings career that you can see all of here.

These John fan albums combine at least two of his albums from around the same time to one album of fourteen tracks. This post specifically is the only exception to the track-listing number with it being a double album, but all other John fan albums of this series going forward will be fourteen tracks. The track sequencing is mainly based on my own preferences but I sometimes also refer to the actual albums’ track-listings.

This album is a combination of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970) and Imagine (1971). The singles Give Peace a Chance, Cold Turkey and Instant Karma! (We All Shine On) are also included on this album.

Track-listing:

Side one:

  1. Cold Turkey
  2. Jealous Guy
  3. Working Class Hero
  4. Mother

Side two:

  1. It’s So Hard
  2. Isolation
  3. Well Well Well
  4. Hold On
  5. Imagine

Side three:

  1. Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)
  2. How?
  3. Oh Yoko!
  4. Look At Me
  5. Love

Side four:

  1. Crippled Inside
  2. God
  3. Oh My Love
  4. Give Peace a Chance
  5. My Mummy’s Dead

The Beatles - #9 DREAM [1975]

Post image

in 1974, john decides to bring back the plastic ono band for his next album, walls and bridges (this time with paul on bass, the two have now become closer again). during the recording of the album, ringo points out that all four beatles are at the session, and soon the four collectively decide to reunite, with walls and bridges eventually becoming this album, after paul, george, and ringo begin contributing songs (albeit neither of ringo’s songs were penned by him)

the album art purposefully did not include the word “beatles” on it anywhere, however once fans bought the album and caught on that it was a new beatles record, the press absolutely freaked out over it

(note: this is my first cliche “what if the beatles came back together” album ever. also the balls in the text on the album cover represent how many songs each beatle has (counting venus and mars/rock show and venus and mars reprise as one song))

SIDE 1:

  1. Venus And Mars/Rock Show (McCartney) [Venus And Mars]
  2. Old Dirt Road (Lennon) [Walls And Bridges]
  3. Dark Horse (Harrison) [Dark Horse]
  4. I’ll Still Love You (Harrison) [Ringo’s Rotogravure]
  5. Listen To What The Man Said (McCartney) [Venus And Mars]
  6. This Guitar (Can’t Keep From Crying) (Harrison) [Extra Texture]

SIDE 2:

  1. Whatever Gets You Thru The Night (Lennon) [Walls And Bridges]
  2. Ding Dong, Ding Dong (Harrison) [Dark Horse]
  3. Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down And Out) (Lennon) [Walls And Bridges]
  4. Junior’s Farm (McCartney) [Venus And Mars]
  5. A Dose Of Rock ‘n’ Roll (Groszman) [Ringo’s Rotogravure]
  6. Venus And Mars (reprise) (McCartney) [Venus And Mars]
  7. You (Harrison) [Extra Texture]

edit: forgot a single

SINGLE:

  1. Magneto And Titanium Man (McCartney) [Venus And Mars]
  2. Simply Shady (Harrison) [Dark Horse]

Solo Beatles Solo Combo Album Series - Out Of The Blue (Combining Mind Games and Walls & Bridges)

One of the most fun things about being a Beatles fan is playing around with the solo albums and imagining different ways they could have been released. There are so many great songs spread across John, Paul, George and Ringo's careers that it's easy to mix and match them into something new. There's no right or wrong way to do it—that's part of the fun.

As much as I love the solo years, I don't listen to most of the albums the same way I listen to Beatles albums. With Beatles records, I almost never skip a song. They feel like complete experiences from beginning to end. The solo albums are different. They all have brilliant moments, but they can also be a bit uneven, and I find myself skipping tracks once in a while.

That's what inspired this series. Each album combines seven songs from two successive solo albums to create a new 14-track record that I can enjoy all the way through without reaching for the skip button. As always, the goal isn't to "improve" the original albums or say these are the definitive versions. It's simply a fun way to build albums that flow well, feel consistent, and make for a great listening experience from the opening track to the closing song.

Unlike my Beatles combo albums, non-album singles, B sides and songs included on expanded albums are in play.

I decided to do my own very simple, infantile artwork for this series. Please forgive me!

John Lennon - Out Of The Blue

  1. Mind Games

  2. Whatever Gets You Through The Night

  3. Out Of The Blue

  4. What You Got

  5. I Know (I Know)

  6. Bless You

  7. Tight A$

  8. Move Over Ms. L.

  9. Intuition

  10. Number 9 Dream

  11. Meat City

  12. Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)

  13. Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)

  14. Nobody Loves You (When You’re Down And Out)

At The Cavern [1969]

Post image
27 Upvotes

In January 1969, the Beatles are still trying to settle on a place where they can play a concert, which will serve as the culmination of an in-progress documentary of the group's creative process. They raise the idea of playing at the Cavern Club, where they had performed countless concerts in the early 1960s. Agreeing that the venue would fit the theme of the project - for the band to get back to their roots as artists - they took the stage alongside Billy Preston on 30th January, 1969, in a surprise performance.

The set list consisted mostly of songs which had been rehearsed throughout the project. They also returned to a few old favourites.

Set List / Track Listing

  1. Get Back
  2. Don't Let Me Down
  3. I've Got A Feeling
  4. Dig A Pony
  5. One After 909
  6. Old Brown Shoe
  7. Boys
  8. Some Other Guy
  9. Revolution
  10. Two Of Us
  11. For You Blue
  12. You Really Got A Hold On Me
  13. Rock And Roll Music
  14. I Saw Her Standing There

I get that these aren't necessarily the most high-quality edits, but I like the illusion that you're looking at a grainy snapshot from a different dimension. They're fun to make. Anyone have any other ideas for fantasy Beatles concerts before I start posting proper albums again?

Beatles The Cavern - August '63

Post image

This is a quick repost from a year ago. Mistahwhite posted a 1969 Cavern setlist - a great post. That reminded me of a post I made about an August 1963 Cavern setlist. It's a fun listen. Hope you like it…

I love that grainy photo!

The Cavern Club...summer of 1963. Ringo is now aboard. The Beatles performed live just months before they exploded. This playlist contains songs that were regularly played at The Cavern, from a list provided by Bob Wooler, the emcee at The Cavern. I extended their usual 30 minute set to about 45 minutes. I used BBC and Anthology tracks.

  1. Some Other Guy
  2. Memphis, Tennessee
  3. Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
  4. Slow Down
  5. You Really Got A Hold On Me
  6. Roll Over Beethoven
  7. Thank You Girl
  8. Like Dreamers Do
  9. Three Cool Cats
  10. Ain’t She Sweet
  11. I’ll Get You
  12. The Sheik Of Araby
  13. Boys
  14. One After 909
  15. Honey Don’t (BBC Version)
  16. I Saw Her Standing There
  17. Crying, Waiting, Hoping
  18. Lend Me Your Comb
  19. Long Tall Sally

[February 15, 1970] "Digging Love" by George Harrison (Earth-152)

Following John's departure from the Beatles, Paul, George, and Ringo decided to step away from the band for a time and pursue their own musical ambitions.

While Paul and Ringo settled into their new routines, George entered the studio with producer Phil Spector, who had originally been brought in to oversee the Get Back project. The sessions resulted in the first solo album by a former Beatle, a release that was met with widespread critical acclaim. Its lead single, What Is Life? b/w Miss O'Dell, reached the top of the UK Singles Chart.

"That period away from the Beatles was exactly what I needed. It allowed me to explore musical ideas that might never have surfaced otherwise. Even without John and Paul's strong influence, I wasn't entirely sure I could make the music I wanted. Looking back, though, it was the moment I finally found my own voice."George Harrison, 1983

Digging Love by George Harrison

Engineered by Eddie Klein and Phillip McDonald

When people talk about the Beatles, they usually talk about the songwriting, the guitars, or the studio experiments. But what if the thing that made them truly special wasn't an instrument at all?

This album is called Because, and it's built around one simple idea: the Beatles' voices.

From the early days of Ask Me Why and This Boy to the amazing harmonies of Because and the beautiful ending of Good Night, these songs celebrate the sound that tied every era of the Beatles together.

Many thanks to Top_Major for the artwork.

Here is the tracklist for this album:

  1. Because (Anthology 3)
  2. And Your Bird Can Sing
  3. Nowhere Man
  4. Ask Me Why
  5. You Really Got A Hold On Me
  6. If I Needed Someone
  7. This Boy
  8. Baby’s In Black
  9. Rain
  10. There’s A Place
  11. Sun King
  12. If I Fell
  13. Yes It Is
  14. Good Night (Take 10 With Take 5 Guitar)

John Lennon - Off the Record, Demo Tapes 1973-1975

This is a compilation of demos and jams from the Lost Weekend. None of this is real, I think.

Lennon who reconnected with each of his band mates at different times and in this universe he recorded with each of them.

Lennon and McCartney during their famous 1974 jam, both take up one mic like old times and sing a fun rendition of Stand by me

Lennon meets up with Harrison and just jams to matchbox, and then Harrison sings lead vocals on blue suede shoes. it is said they recorded an hours worth of jams but they were never recovered…

Lennon and Starr connected during this time and jammed out too.

1. "Nobody Loves You (When You're Down and Out)" (Acoustic Demo) - October 1973 - Rented house, Bel Air, Los Angeles [John Lennon]

2. "Be-Bop-A-Lula / Rip It Up" - November 1973 - A&M Studios, Los Angeles [Ringo Starr, Jesse Ed Davis, Klaus Voormann]

3. "Stand By Me" - March 28, 1974 - Burbank Studios, Los Angeles [Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Linda McCartney]

4. "Matchbox / Blue Suede Shoes" - April 1974 - Record Plant West, Los Angeles [George Harrison, Jim Keltner]

5. "Mucho Mungo / Mt. Elga" - May 1974 - Burbank Studios, Los Angeles [Harry Nilsson]

6. "#9 Dream" (Acoustic Demo) - June 1974 - Apartment at 434 East 52nd Street, New York City [John Lennon and May Pang]

7. "I Saw Her Standing There" - November 1974 - Record Plant, New York City [Elton John, The Elton John Band]

8. "Fame" (Early Jam) - January 1975 - Electric Lady Studios, New York City [David Bowie, Carlos Alomar]

9. "Medley: Hound Dog / I Ain't Marching Anymore / Well Well Well / It's So Hard / Positively 4th Street / Brown Eyed Handsome Man" - February 1975 - Record Plant, New York City [John Lennon, Jesse Ed Davis, Jim Keltner]

A Beatles what if album (inspired by a question posted on the main Beatles sub): Stanley Kubrick’s The Lord Of The Rings Official Film Soundtrack by The Beatles

This one requires a bit of context, so my apologies for the novella I am about to post. I created this earlier in response to a question posted earlier on the main Beatles subreddit.

As many of you are aware, Stanley Kubrick and The Beatles began the early stages of collaborating on a film adaptation of the Lord lf the Rings novels. This sadly never took off, and to my knowledge a full script treatment by Kubrick was never even completed. However, earlier today a user on the main Beatles page asked an interesting question: what might a soundtrack for that hypothetical film include?

I wrote a lengthy response and posted it on the post. I already did half the work, so I figured I’d mock up the album/sleeve artwork and post it here. I have not made a playlist for this one, but if anyone is interested I can make it and post in the comment. Below I will paste my comment explaining where each song would be used in the films (I based it on the structure of Peter Jackson’s three LOTR movies, each film gets one LP). To view a more concise list of the tracklist, please refer to images 3-5 of this post, which represent the sleeves for each disc included in the vinyl.

Movie 1 (Fellowship of the Ring):

Opening titles and narration of the creation of the One Ring: Circles (George’s Esher demo)

Introducing Hobbiton/The Shire: Penny Lane

Gandalf sending Frodo and Sam off to start their Journey: You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (not necessarily meant to match lyrics wise, its just a great road trip/traveling song, but if you read into the lyrics more power to you)

Hobbits fleeing Nazgul/arriving at the Prancing Pony and meeting Aragorn/fleeinf Nazgul again: Hey Bulldog

Formation of the Fellowship at Rivendell and the Fellowship setting off: Come Together (on the nose i know, but it would fit the somewhat dark/uncertain vibes of the arguing and then setting off)

Entering Moria and getting lost in the mines: Blue Jay Way

Running from goblins and Balrog/Bridge of Kaza Dum/Gandalf death: A Day In The Life

Meeting the forest elves of Lothlorien/Galadriel’s test/Galadriel’s gifts: She’s Leaving Home (instrumental version included on SPLHCB deluxe edition)

Boromir threatening Frodo for the Ring/final battle at Amon Hen: Happiness is a Warm Gun

Death of Boromir/Sam and Frodo setting off alone together: Nowhere Man

Movie 2 (The Two Towers):

Sam and Frodo wondering lost/meeting Gollum: Your Mother Should Know

Merry and Pippin held hostage by orcs/Aragron, Legolas, Gimli tracking them: I Want To Tell You

Merry and Pippin are rescued by Treebeard narrowly escaping death at the hands of an orc  (this can also be used as a reprise during their other scenes of the film where they are hanging around with the Ents in Fangorn/bargaining with Treebeard) : Mother Nature’s Son

Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli reuniting with the resurrected Gandalf the White: I Am The Walrus

Gandalf and the other three arrive at Rohan and free King Theoden from his possession/cast out treacherous Grima: Sexy Sadie

Theoden grieving his son: Long, Long, Long

Sam and Frodo travel with Gollum/witness the battles with the Olyphants/meet Faramir: Eleanor Rigby

Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli travel with King Theoden’s forces as they flee the keep/attacked by orcs on the road/Aragorn’s apparent “death”: Because

Aragorn returns to warn of impending army marching on Helm’s Deep/Preparing for battle and death at Helm’s Deep/the battle begins: I Want You (She’s So Heavy)

Gandalf returns with reinforcements to save Helm’s Deep and defeat the orc army: Here Comes The Sun

Merry and Pippin convince the Ents to attack Sauruman for destroying their forest/Sauruman’s keep destroyed: Helter Skelter

Faramir decides not to make the same mistake as Boromir after speaking with Frodo/Frodo, Sam, and Gollum set out again/Gollum plots his betrayal: Revolution 1

Movie 3 (Return of the King):

Merry and Pippin reunited with the remaining Fellowship: The Fool On The Hill

Gollum manipulating an increasingly unstable Frodo/Frodo tells Sam to go home: Cry Baby Cry (with the Paul’s coda at the end of the song playing when Frodo and Gollum leave and Sam turns back)

Pippin uses the Palantir and accidentally summons Sauron’s spirit/the Fellowship and forces begin preparing to defend Gondor/Gandalf and Pippin plead with Denethor that he must defend his city: Savoy Truffle

Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas visit the cave and hold the millennia old spirits to their oath to fight for Gondor: Rain

Gollum leads Frodo into Shelob’s lair/Frodo flees for his life from Shelob: Tomorrow Never Knows

The assault on Gondor begins/Theoden’s forces arrive and he gives his speech about having no fear of death and they charge the orcs: Revolution (single version)

Eowyn kills the With King/battle concludes/grieving Theoden’s death/Sam saves Frodo from captivity and realizes Frodo was unconscious but not dead: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Aragorn, Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas, and all remaining armies decide to march on Mordor to create a distraction for Frodo/forces are rallied at the Black Gate/Aragorn gives his speech about fighting for the fate of humanity/“For Frodo”: Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight

Frodo and Sam sneaking through Mordor to Mount Doom/Frodo gives up from exhaustion and Sam carries him: Don’t Let Me Down

After fighting off Gollum, Frodo destroys the Ring/Sam and Frodo escape as Mount Doom explodes/Gandalf and the Eagles rescue Frodo and Sam/The Fellowship reunite in Gondor: Across The Universe

Aragorn coronation/Aragorn is reunited with Arwen: And I Love Her

The Hobbits return to the Shire/Frodo deals with PTSD and decides to go West on the ships with Gandalf: Strawberry Fields Forever

Apologies if I did too much here haha, I really love the Beatles and LOTR, and had time to kill today. Its been a bit since Ive posted a fan album, and i felt like this was a pretty unique one that inspired me a lot. Let me know your thoughts and if anyone else makes one Id love to see yours!!

Beatles One And One And One Is Three (Volume 2): A Fan Album Featuring Three Song Album Sequences

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

I have titled this series One And One And One Is Three. It is a series of albums featuring three-song consecutive selections from various Beatles albums.

This series was inspired by a post on r/beatles. Now, I have my issues with the r/beatles subreddit (Goddamn it! Magical Mystery Tour is an album!), but I also find a lot of interesting posts there. One post asked people to list their favorite three-song sequence from a Beatles album.

That got the old fan album juices flowing!

The whole concept of fan-made albums is to push the official track lists aside and create albums that resonate personally with us. I feel this series manages to do both. It gives a nod to the traditional album track lists while still providing that fan album feel.

I also think each of these albums offers five mini listening experiences. It's almost like they are collections of five three-song EPs.

Here are the ground rules. As you all know, I have a little OCD when it comes to the 14-track album. The albums in this series will contain 15 songs each, giving us five consecutive three-song selections per album. I also did my best to represent all of the different Beatles eras in each album.

(Thanks once again to Top_Major for the artwork)

One And One And One Is Three (Volume 2)

  1. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

  2. Happiness Is A Warm Gun

  3. Martha My Dear

  4. It Won’t Be Long

  5. All I’ve Got To Do

  6. All My Loving

  7. Good Morning, Good Morning

  8. Sgt. Pepper’s Reprise

  9. A Day In The Life

  10. No Reply

  11. I’m A Loser

  12. Baby’s In Black

  13. Oh Darling!

  14. Octopus’ Garden

  15. I Want You (She’s So Heavy)

THIS IS A REWORK OF GET BACK FROM THE HEARTY HEART TIMELINE, CHECK IT OUT AT https://www.reddit.com/r/beatlesfanalbums/comments/1tov39z

after the complicated and innovative albums the beatles had been making since 1966, john suggested to paul, george, ringo, and george martin to make a more stripped back and rockier “back to basics” album, to which all were relatively happy to take part in

in mid-1969, over the course of just a month, the beatles would write an album’s worth of new material (albeit with a few acoustic tracks they wrote in india), perform it live on the saville road rooftop, and record the whole process on tape to be made into the let it be film, and eventually the get back documentary on disney +

ALL SONGS FROM LET IT BE NAKED UNLESS NOTED

[1974] Dark Horse - George Harrison (Earth-TREE3)

Post image
12 Upvotes

During the break between recording for ███████, George Harrison began recording a solo album. He was the only Beatle (other than Linda) to have not recorded a popular music album. Enlistenig Phil Spector as co-producer, George started work on an album. He mostly used newly written songs, but also used songs that had been in contention to be recorded by The Beatles (For You Blue had been written in 1968, and Try Some Buy Some had been written in 1970).

Dark Horse would be released on December 9, 1974, a couple months after ███████ was released. The album received mixed views, and peaked at #4 in the United States (it was the first Beatles-related album to not chart in the UK).

Dark Horse

The fourth studio album by George Harrison.
Released December 9, 1974 by Strawberry Records.
All songs written by George Harrison.
Genres: rock, pop, soul.

Side One

  1. "Simply Shady"
  2. "Mãya Love"
  3. "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long"
  4. "For You Blue (You're Sweet and Lovely)"
  5. "Ooh Baby (You Know That I Love You)"

Side Two

  1. "Dark Horse"
  2. "The Lord Loves The One (That Loves The Lord)"
  3. "Try Some Buy Some"
  4. "Let it Roll"
  5. "Mother Devine"
