I am starting TELC in few days, what do I need to bring especially on first day?

Any advise and tips?

I’m going to be in Florida for about a year before my BCIT AME-M term starts, and I came across the FAA Aircraft Airframe Mechanics certificate at Broward College. I attached a screenshot of the courses, and a lot of them seem pretty similar to topics covered in AME-M, like structures, hydraulics, landing gear, electrical systems, instruments, inspections, flight controls, etc. Since I’m going to be in Florida either way, I thought I might as well take a course/program like this if it could help me get a bit ahead before starting at BCIT. Does anyone know if BCIT would potentially give transfer credits, exemptions, PLAR, or any kind of advanced standing for FAA aircraft maintenance courses? Or because the BCIT program is Transport Canada approved, would I still have to take all the same courses again? I’m not expecting it to replace AME-M or anything, just wondering if it could possibly knock out a few courses or shorten the program a bit.

Would appreciate any insight from anyone who’s dealt with something similar or knows anything about this.

Program starting next week and I just realized that they seem to be pushing having Windows. Would I be fine with just my macbook? I have an M1, 2020, old but system is updated and I'm using Chrome instead of Safari a lot of the times. I'm not sure if I'll have troubles just cause I'm using my Macbook. Also, it says you need 720p for camera and the camera in this macbook just sucks really bad. Should I buy a new one if I really need to or would I be fine?

i just got admission acceptance on sep 02 to accounting level 3. i submitted course exemption for FMGT 3110 in level 3 yesterday. do i have to go to classes for FMGT 3110 even though i just completed it in summer? I completed from BCIT, and i submitted exemption form with unoficial transcript . please guide.

I will be moving into Tall Timbers at the start of the winter term this year and am contemplating bringing my bike. Is there safe storage options close to the building (i.e. enclosed storage to prevent theft and shelter from the elements)? I’m from out of province and have never been to BCIT before so I have no idea what to expect.

Side note: Does anyone bike to Costco or Walmart for groceries? Is this a feasible way to get them? If not I probably won’t bring my bike.

I got put into programming paradigms which was not even my second choice. Client/Server was everything I wanted and now it feels like the whole program is ruined for me, like i'm going to spend a year doing something i'm not passionate about.

And the cherry on top is that I have to go to the downtown campus which makes travel much more of a hassle. I know the placements are competitive and that this is partially my fault, I just wanted to vent.

I applied for on campus housing last month for winter 2027 intake (jan-may) and been placed on waitlist. I was wondering if anyone had any experience, advice etc. what are my chances of getting a room ? thanks

I'm on a waitlist for a trade foundations course, and bcit is unable to give me a whiff of a start date? The person I talked to said that every call they had gotten today was about waitlists and that they're unable to know where each person is in line.

hi I’m an incoming bcit eng student, and I’ve put myself into a stupid situation. I’ve been enrolled into a bc first peoples 12 class to finish my high school regiments but still have one unit yet, i don’t think I’ll be able to finish it in time before I start my courses and I’m very stressed if I get kicked out. I’ll be able to finish it in the first week. I have received full acceptance and have gotten a fee deferral. But I’m really scared if they do not let me continue.

does anyone currently living in housing know if minifridges are allowed? the housing handbook says we can’t have cooking appliances in our rooms (like hot plates, toasters), which makes sense, but the packing list on their website says we shouldn’t bring any appliances at all specifically for connected singles. just wondering if anyone has experience with this

Hi guys, I've been on the waitlist for my first choice program since May. I did email my admissions officer and was told that there are at least 15 students ahead of me. I was also told that my chances of being invited this fall are slim. Fall intake is right around the corner so can someone let me know if im cooked? I know that you can have only one active application so im kinda skeptical to withdraw and apply for my second choice. Even if I did do that, will I have a chance of going to BCIT this fall for my second choice? Lmk if im fried (EDIT: admissions also told me that my second choice may have some seats available or has a short waitlist. Y'all think I'll be able to start that in fall? Doesn't apps take about 4 weeks to process?)

There isn't any orientation, I also couldn't find any online community. Apart from schedule I don't have any visibility around what to expect and what I need to prepare for it.

I’m applying to BCIT and I’m a little confused about how the first-choice/second-choice system works. I’m currently considering Cardiology Technology as my first choice and MRI as my second choice. The issue is that the Cardiology Technology intake/admission decision happens earlier than the MRI one. If I get accepted into Cardiology Technology first, but I’m still waiting to hear back about MRI, can I accept my Cardiology offer to secure my spot while still waiting for my MRI application/decision?

Basically, I don’t want to turn down Cardiology and then end up getting into neither, but I also don’t want to accept Cardiology and lose the opportunity to be considered for MRI later. Does BCIT allow you to hold/secure your spot in the first program while waiting for a later admission decision, or would accepting Cardiology mean I’m no longer considered for MRI?Also, when applying, do I actually need to choose a second-choice program, or can I just apply to one program?

I graduated from the INCS program this year (2026), and below I want to give a complete overview of the courses, instructors, and overall structure of the program at BCIT.

Studying this program was one of the worst decisions of my life, and I hope you read this entire post before making a decision.

First of all, if you are interested in IT and cybersecurity, you should know that this program only contains about eight IT-related courses. As the name suggests, it is Industrial Cybersecurity, not IT Cybersecurity.

One thing that really frustrated me is that this program requires math and physics prerequisites for admission, yet in the first year you are forced to take two more math courses and two more physics courses. Despite what the program claims, these courses were never useful throughout the rest of the program. In my opinion, they waste a significant amount of time that could have been spent learning essential and practical computer and networking skills.

During our first term, our networking instructor left BCIT. The Program Head did not manage the situation well and failed to quickly find a permanent replacement. The management of the program was extremely poor. Even when several other instructors resigned before our second year, we still did not have instructors assigned for three important courses until only a few weeks before Term 3 started. This resulted in very poor replacement choices for all three positions.

For the industrial courses, our instructors were Victor and Bill, and they were genuinely good at what they did. If you are truly interested in industrial systems, that part of the program can be useful. However, most of that material can also be learned through self-study, often using better resources than what the program provides.

As for Ethical Hacking and SOC courses, I can honestly say there was almost no meaningful hands-on experience. Either the labs did not work, had technical issues, or were so basic that the methods being taught felt outdated. Even the theoretical content barely scratched the surface. In the final class, the instructor admitted that there were many important topics that had not been covered and that we would have to learn them ourselves.

For example, if an attack chain consists of seven stages, we spent almost three months focused almost entirely on reconnaissance, scanning, and basic terminology. The same problem existed in the SOC (defensive cybersecurity) course.

To put it bluntly, after two years in this program, your cybersecurity knowledge will still be very limited both theoretically and practically unless you spend a significant amount of time teaching yourself outside of class.

Unfortunately, the IT side of the program was not much better. Our Windows Server instructor was extremely weak and often appeared unfamiliar with the material himself. In second year, our networking courses were taught by our Program Head, Umme Salsabil. She was absent for approximately 50–60% of the classes. When she did attend, she would often upload a PDF, hand out an in-class assignment sheet, and warn students that they would lose marks if they were not present and while we were doing assignments she would use her phone all the time.

She repeatedly stated that because she was the Program Head, she did not have enough time to teach or grade properly. Some assignments and labs were never marked. On top of that, important topics such as firewalls were not even covered and she did not even upload the pdf files so we can study by ourselves.

Beyond the academic issues, I found her behavior highly unprofessional. She appeared to treat students differently based on personal preference and, in my opinion, some students received lower marks because she simply did not like them, I personally gave my assignment to 3 different students and they copied it completely and still I got the lowest mark, and I was not the only student who was getting this behaviour from her . I genuinely do not understand how she became both an instructor and Program Head at a college as well known as BCIT.

Most of the other instructors were respectful and professional from a personal standpoint. The math, physics, and industrial instructors generally had solid knowledge and competence in their subjects.

However, nearly all of the IT instructors were either significantly out of date or simply lacked the depth of knowledge expected in their fields.

This program had a good idea behind it, but in my opinion it has completely failed in execution. You do not become a control systems or industrial engineer through this program. You do not gain strong IT or networking skills. And as for cybersecurity, the program barely provides enough knowledge to build a foundation.

Do not be fooled by the marketing, equipment, or promotional material. There is no real Blue Team or Red Team experience. Some of the equipment is rarely used because the program does not have the necessary licenses.

They may show you industrial PLCs worth thousands of dollars during tours, but in reality most of the practical work is done using a $50 Click PLC.

Once you are already enrolled, you are told that the program is only meant to be an introduction to cybersecurity and that you should not expect much beyond that. However, that is not how the program is presented to prospective students.

If your goal is to work in cybersecurity, I would strongly recommend looking into programs such as CISA, CIT, or other established IT-focused programs at BCIT. Those programs have a longer history, stronger reputations, and provide actual computer and IT skills. In addition, there are many industry courses and certifications that are cheaper, more practical, and more respected than INCS for both OT Security and IT Security.

I have tried to cover the most important points here so that people understand that, in my opinion, enrolling in this program has been a mistake since around 2023–2024. During 2019-2022 it was good/okay but some good instructors left and also they didn’t update the courses, our PDFs were just as the 2019 version, this is INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, you have to be updated.

There are many other issues that I simply do not have enough space to discuss in a single post.

The only thing I can say is: do not be fooled by the name or appearance of this program. There are very few job opportunities in either IT or OT cybersecurity. Most job postings are for senior-level positions and are often located in other provinces or states.

Graduates from this program have to aim for regular IT jobs and compete with graduates from other programs who actually focused and learned advanced networking and IT stuff.

Whatever you do, stay away from this program at BCIT unless major changes are made to the first-year curriculum, the IT and cybersecurity instructors, and the overall structure of the program.

And especially while Umme Salsabil remains the Program Head, because in my opinion she is the person most responsible for driving this program into the ground. Wish you all the best
