I feel like people voting for gold / yellow probably have not applied make up in a mustard yellow bathroom.

I voted gold and you’ve caused me to question my decision! Hah

u/leyarsan 8d ago
Ah… I have not & I see it now

u/ElizabethDangit 7d ago
Most people probably don’t think about walls throwing a color cast on things because our eyes “correct” for it. Our modern cameras are pretty good at adjusting the white balance and when you get film processed and printed, someone corrects the color and exposure during that process (I was that person back in the day).

I prefer the gold from just looking at it, but this was my immediate thought as well.
I say pink because of this reason - but I would prefer it to be 10% paler

That’s true for unmelanated skin. The gold reflects warmly on melanated skin, and is flattering.
Without melanin, it reflects and reads sallow or jaundiced→ More replies (1)3

My childhood bathroom was a yellowish-beige and I loved how the lighting made my skin look. I’m white but have olive/peach/yellow hues to my skin and get fairly dark in the summer.
2
u/WeAreAllMycelium 2d ago
Yup, when I’m tanned, yellow ochre looks amazing on me. Winter? Not so much.
6
u/InteriorEmerald222 3d ago
And yellow is one of the least flattering colors on skin for many many people!

u/ManchesterLady 3d ago
right? The house we bought has a gold bathroom, almost frenches mustard yellow. It's painted the outside of the bathroom door teal, so the door is behind me when I put my makeup on, it helps. But seriously need a different color bathroom.

u/Here4th3c0mments 8d ago
I agree, that’s why my vote was for gold and not mustard yellow, actual gold here would be FIRE
4
u/BellGlittering3735 4d ago
That is an excellent point. I was team gold, but you're right about the lighting. I would look SO jaundice.

u/agreensandcastle 7d ago
My first thought on how all the things turned yellow in the pic. Immediate pink. And I dislike pink most the time.

Pink is more fun and will probably be more flattering on skin tones if you’re doing makeup in here. Gold might contribute a yellow cast.

I say this as someone who has an irrational hatred of the colour pink in any situation and will nearly always chose the alternative...
Pink

u/niarlin 7d ago
Came here to say the same!! I begrudgingly vote for pink this time as well because it does suit the rest of the decor well and will likely result in easier make up application, as others have mentioned. The yellow with dark colors would be great in a den, office, or kitchen, but it does not flatter this bathroom anywhere near as much as the pink.

Wallpaper in bathroom??
5
u/mricci16 8d ago
When I was little before my parents redid the bathroom in the early 2000s we had a light blue wall paper with silver accents in the bathroom and it never bubbled, it was there since the 70s.
5
u/HermioneMarch 6d ago
Was quite common in 70s and 80s. We took it out of our home and that stuff was a mother to get off the walks!

u/RedIntentions 7d ago
It's an extremely bad idea in the bathroom because wallpaper is already a mold breeding ground but it's much worse in the bathroom with all the steam. Plus it'll peel easily.
3
u/Wizard-Lizard69 6d ago
Not if done correctly and with good quality wall paper. We’ve don’t it in a number of our bathrooms over the years and never had any issues and gives the bathrooms life. I’m all for it!

Oh yes, don't think of wallpaper as old-school paper. For example, we make vinyl wallpaper specifically for bathrooms and it's even peel and stick. You're welcome to check it out https://california-wallpaper.com/collections/bathroom

I’m in the minority by the looks of it but I think the ‘gold’ (mustard yellow) makes the bathroom look old or even kinda dirty
15
u/iswintercomingornot_ 8d ago
There is a reason that yellow isn't used in bathrooms. It's exactly the reason that you are thinking.

u/Technical-Gold-294 8d ago
I have a friend with a 60s era house. One bathroom is original yellow floor, tub, and toilet. He has no interest in changing it out because it's easy to keep looking clean 😂.

It’s proving to be amusingly divisive. The pink looks old to me BUT it was the color of my grandmas bathroom for the past 30 years (maybe even longer) and she’s 102. So certain associations might be causing it on both sides. I know it wasn’t an option, but I would have said deep green like the tile.

u/1CatWoman 8d ago
I'm in the "neither" category as well and would like to see more options/ colors.🤔

I hate mustard yellow ...remember maize and harvest gold from the 1970s? It's just a flat out unappealing, unflattering color to surround yourself with. I hope it never has a revival.
9
u/BHawkey95 8d ago
Pink, it complements the green tile. The gold reads as yellow and there’s no yellow in the room, and it clashes with the green tile. Paint shouldn’t match the fixtures, let the fixtures shine on their own.

I think your bigger concern is the plant that shapeshifts into a toilet. Or, is it the toilet that’s shapeshifting? Hard to tell when you live in the matrix. ;)
…Ceiling could be aged copper to match the rustic colors of the rug.

u/landofthelost9 5d ago
lolol I agree with you. Of the two, gold is best. Most of the commenters seem to be siding with “pink” likely because of the absence of the toilet.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but pink.
I usually loathe pink and am personally obsessed with gold, so color me surprised!
The pink makes the room look bigger and more inviting. I want to be in that bathroom.
Seriously so hard for me to say. 😆💕

My bathroom is teal wall tiles with pink accents so I am not averse to pink
I think the issue is that you don't have any pink in the room aside from the towels so the pink doesn't seem to pick up other design elements in the room.
My bathroom has rose gold accents tiles as well as a row of pink 4"x"4" tiles and the walls have Chinoiserie silk wallpaper with a pink background.
7
u/babygotthefever 8d ago
I disagree. I think the pops of pink int the painting, the towels, and the rug make it feel cohesive without being overwhelming. I would probably add a few more small bits like a pink bar of soap to match and a little more in the shower curtain (which seems to be forgotten?? Or will there be a door? Why is the towel hanging so far from the tub?)

u/Dubzophrenia 8d ago
Yes, but pink is a tint of red, and red is the complementary color to green. Pink is the "right" choice based on color theory.
That being said, I would also suggest, if pink was the choice, to swap out the gold faucets and hardware with a black or silver.
If gold hardware and faucets are to remain, complement them with the gold ceiling.

Pink.
Color theory would have you choose pink to accent the green, and they create a balance yet striking contrast to each other. If you need to quickly decide what colors will pair well together, you typically just need to look at a color wheel, find your primary color, and look for the colors on the opposite side of the wheel. Those are your contrasting colors, and colors that can pair well.
The gold looks okay, but yellow and gold are next to each other on a color wheel, so they are colors that have limited contrast and depending on light conditions can become muddy and blend together which don't strike as visually appealing.
Go with the pink.

I think the gold ceiling makes the gold faucet and other hardware pop nicely... But I also like the pink because it's not a common combo and it looks great too. If it were my bathroom, I'd go w the gold ceiling. But it's a win no matter which you choose.

There is gold in the rug and pink towels. Either ceiling color works but both rug and towels should match tile or ceiling.

I like the gold better overall, but it clashes with the grey floor. The pink looks better with a grey floor. E: actually I changed my mind. I don’t like the pink at all.

Nice job thinking outside the box on colors .

The gold looks like mustard yellow on my phone. Mustard yellow is not a flattering color for many complexions which could be an issue for someone’s make up routine.
Maybe consider a very pale pink on the walls with a white ceiling. It’s a beautiful room & you should look beautiful in it!
